- Steven Universe, like any popular television series that tells an overarching story - isn't perfect in its storytelling. With Change Your Mind marking the end of the original story written in 2012, while we endure the wait for the next season and Steven Universe: the Movie, I thought it would be fun to reflect and rewrite Steven Universe, to give an alternate turn of events and give a different take on story beats. This is Steven Universe: Rewritten, Episode 1! Starting with Season 4 and the Zoo Arc!

I want the diamonds to let the zoo humans go to earth
Everything. Scrap the entire show and start over from scratch with ACTUAL good storytelling, no vauge hints of character development and story plots, and make Rose an ACTUAL character instead of making her Pink Diamomd. She'll still be around but stays as Pink when the revolution started and be the leader of the Crystal Gems, or maybe she travles the rest of earth to really satisfy her love of the planet.
I would have Opal appear more.
We're giving Vox too much power. He'll eventually rewrite the whole universe.

Rewriting SU for me would basically end up being:
1. Have Steven not presented as 100% in the wrong when Connie got mad at him
2. Have a Bismuth episode where she somehow escapes the bubble in season 4, and has to confront her own anger before getting poofed again (maybe she tries to free corrupted gems and they poof her, i dunno), thus not having her instantly be a-ok with everything when she comes back in season 5.
3. Have the Homeworld White Diamond stuff be an entire season
Idk, I feel like if Bismuth was unbubbled again it would make her appearance in Made of Honor much less satisfying.
Ok I get the whole thing where diamond days was rushed, but *an entire season* dedicated to homeworld and white diamond seems a little much. Maybe if they built up white diamond more then maybe they could have had more episodes dedicated to homeworld.
With White's part, I feel like it shouldn't have rushed, but I feel like a midseason arc would be fine. Like with the Peridot redemption arc.

COMPLETELY AGREE with #3!!! The White Diamond stuff should have been an entire season!! From the moment we first hear about Yellow Diamond, then Blue Diamond, all the way up to the point where they FINALLY see eye-to-eye-that takes SEVERAL seasons. But White gets mentioned then defeated in like 3 or so episodes??? WTF?? She's supposed to be the final boss, the most difficult challenge yet, and yet it only takes a couple episodes to get there?? Gutted.
Enjoyed the heck out of this, personally I like the use of the characters in more main story episodes.

Steven’s body is physical obviously, and his body could handle it, he just had some restraint when trying to move. It doesn’t matter if he’s half gem, he has a human body and from that we can deduce that Connie would be fine unless she isn’t in a seat, she’d just fall back onto the wall

Shows like adventure time and svtfoe are good BECAUSE of how expansive the universe is, and having more than one point of view is part of the reason why imo. I do see what you guys mean though.

This is really great! Adding Peridot, Connie and Lapis to the Zoo arc really made them feel like more than side characters, and I was always disappointed about how they said they would go back for the Rubies but never did. I can't wait to see an episode 2 of this!

Honest the first 20 eps of Steven U felt disconnected from the rest of the series. The gems started off more magical than scifi. I wish they'd kept Magic based Tech in the brief.
Its kinda the whole 'Steven's Perspective' thing. He kinda had no idea that the gems where aliens the whole first season (and the magical girl references started becoming less frequent)
Yes, blending magic and sci-fi can turn into some cool ass stories! Ive seen theory's and such that come out of this show that get bat down immediately with the whole "oh there is no magic it was all tech" and I'm like, if you look they has been and STILL IS MAGIC!!!! Sure, they kinda go away from it but that doesn't mean that it doesn't still exist and it kinda suck it just got dropped. Most of the gems powers are still magic for example, that's not tech that's doing weird things to manipulate the environment around them, that is magic generated from their gems stones!!!! Well, anyway I would have love if they kept magic more :(
@@fayev1360 Yeah the gems become less magical from Steven's point of view both in terms of "magic is sufficiently advanced technology" as he learns more about their powers and nature, but they also become less magical in terms of "enchanting" as he finds out their dirty history. It's a good, thematic progression.

They are beings of light and are able to create and manipulate that light. Their gem weapons are hard-light constructs (just like their physical forms).

I really liked Peridot's older design with her limb enhancers, so seeing her find some and keep them permanently would've honestly been amazing.
Either finding new ones, or going and finding/fixing her old ones would have been epic

This is such a breath of fresh air! Most of the time I see people "rewriting" something, ESPECIALLY with Steven Universe, it mostly just feels so aggressive, like they really are trying to "one-up" the actual writers. THIS, however, feels like a genuine love letter to the series. You love it, and have your own ideas about how certain elements should be. It's fun, it's creative, and more importantly it ISN'T attacking the creators.

Kinda assuming that Steven and/or Connie accidentally pushed some buttons and Peridot was about to callibrate the ship but is knocked off with the other gems. That moment with Steven's breakdown is still kinda crucial~

At first I was unsure if I would like it but after hearing what was had to be offered was actually waaay better than I expected and I began to love these new changes and would really love to see this becoming a Comic Dub series! 🤩
My least favourite bits about the show are the lack of consistent development on Lapis, and that Connie Steven fight and Connie on homeworld
I really started to hate lapis because of how back and forth her character went with development.
My least favorite bit is the show refusing to grow Steven up and use Zach's normal voice.

Spritemon 98 in that sense its mostly fiction and it could very commonly be an exxagerated story which is mostly based on the same storyline only adding up for more of whatever exxagerated thing they can really add, compared to this video being a recommendation for what would they do based on the show without changing the characters and much of the show.

I love that the show changed from Magic to Sci-fi it feels like we’re living through Steven. Going from believing that the gems were this do no evil group of goddesses to finding out the secrets that lie behind it. Once suprised settled it felt great😭

Steven and Connie Unfuse and Greg says Steven will decide and Steven Chooses J10 and everyone is happy and the joy is so loud That Lapis and Peridot come up with a plan and Amethyst is called and sneak them out and into the ship,meanwhile Pearl, Ruby and Sapphire run behind Holly's back, she finds out Pearl and Steven Intimidate her and they go back home.

I would rewrite the story so that Ruby and Sapphire say, "I love you" to each other and we see more of them as a their own gems, not just as Garnet all the time (like, maybe have them separate naturally doing their own thing without it being triggered by conflict. You know, seeing two people beyond just a relationship)
It can't just be me that wants to see Steven interacting with his mom's without him acting as an emotional support pillar.

pink Steven makes sense. for him to exist, the physical form of pink diamond would have to be so intricately woven into his cellular structure, making it so complicated that the pure light form on its own is complex enough to mimic human anatomy perfectly. and this complexity causes it to even emulate the brain, giving the light form it's own control that usually the gemstone would have. so no, pink can't control her own physical form, it's controlling itself.

So, it's just Steven's REAL gem half, with Flesh Steven being Steven's REAL flesh half, with them eventually refusing into Steven.

This is the kind of content I needed oh my gosh!!! I do have to say I never thought of writing in Jasper that way in her monster form. I doubt it would have been easy for Steven to handle at first with her just considering him Rose, but I like your spin! Also, all the things with Connie, Lapis, and Peridot. Dude, those three give me life! I definitely love the Stevonnie bits added to the Zooman arc as well, and just the thought of the Zoomans interacting with them makes me grin!
Sorry for the ramble. I really love this, and can't wait to see Part 2!
I think the rewrite was pretty great for most part, we needed more stuff with Pink Diamond, Peridot, Lapis, and Jasper and I say you did well.

I'm sorry, but in the zoo arc, you can't put Lapis here. Mostly because she's afraid to go back on homeworld at that time...

Claire Aquos That doesn’t mean she can’t bring herself to do it. Lapis’s been noticed of being able to overcome her fears at this point. I think Steven or Peridot would encourage her, telling her they are all gonna be by each other’s sides while being in HW’s hostile teritory. Peridot could reassure Lapis that there aren’t as many Gems taking care of the Zoo.
I’d love to see her there because it’d bring a lot of tension in the Blue Diamond scene.

The only thing I'm gonna change is Steven's Birthday to which the plot point Steven must decide to stay a kid forever or grow up normally and it ends with Steven keeping his tween form.
The rest of the episodes(now with his new tween default form) can go as usual even with the Vox rewrites. Although I'm gonna add new powers for Steven as the episodes goes on maybe in "Scavenge Hunt" or add in my own episodes involving discovering his new offensive yet pacifistic powers.

Interesting rewrite on the Zoo arc, it would be really cool if Connie, Lapis, and Peridot came along with the Crystal Gems to the human zoo.
This is fun and i like how you rewrite everything in a better way. I never got to see most episodes air at all and i didn't feel what most fans felt because i didn't get to see the full episodes on youtube without paying so i went for other people to provide clips at least so still never a full episode without missing parts. But your version from what i thought is better and more worth my time to see. 😌
What if corrupted jasper walked over into pinks palenquin and fell asleep and then garnet poofed her so jasper can finnaly feel at peace

You guys, hope diamond would not be easy to redeem. More harder than white diamond. She would have the ultimate power, like killing/shattering a human/gem in a blink of an eye. When Steven finds out about hope diamond, yellow says “I’m afraid we can’t go with you. She is to... scary..” then blue saying “sorry Steven.” Then white says “good luck. You are going to need it.” Hope diamond will be the ultimate antagonist for Steven universe.

I would love absolutely love seeing these episodes in real life or even if you create a story board abput it and or make it an animation. Just something to qennck (obviously dont know how to spell that) our thirst for steven universe. That will be all. As steven universe is an important thing to me and really gave me the courage to open up and accept that i was bi and many other things so seeing something like this just rewriting our favorite show as a community really stans out to me. I know this was like 3 years ago but, I honestly agree on your idea of the show being re-written in your way. And seeing Jasper as more than a villain is something i wish the writers would have done too. I honestly had wished the the writers and Rebecca would have given Jasper more screen time with just as she did with Lapiz and peridot.
This was a really good rewrite and feels like more satisfying character development and continuity/flow compared to what the actual gave us show. Though I think Jasper being 'redeemed' in monster reunion might feel rushed in just an 11-minute episode due to her stubbornness and need for extra convincing, I could maybe see it being similar to the bismuth episode?
We need an animator to animate these episodes *STAT*
Where this is satisfying to an extent I do like how Steven universe played out on its own. I wouldn't stress the wanting to know of pink diamond cause Steven universes theme overall is to be light hearted. To overly rewrite would remove planned conflict. And take away from Stevens perspective.

What if in “The Zoo” the lady speaking from the earrings could be Rose aka Pink Diamond? Because PD loved humans so much and didn’t want none of them hurt from the actions happening on earth. And the Diamonds already put a handful in there. And blue wanted more humans in there to remember pink because pink loved humans. Maybe after PD gave birth to Steven, she went back to the zoo to have the actions of “Rose” on earth to later die down so everything will go right. However, they don’t. This is my theory and I also like your rewrites! Your doing a great job and it’s perfect! Thanks for listening!

I love Steven Universe, this show gives me so much creativity and I've always wondered what SU would be like if it was more gore, horror kinda theme, I even rewrote it a while back and tweaked it a little not too long ago, Blue Diamond is one of my absolute favorites and I had many Inspo backgrounds that I thought fitted her perfectly
For Example:
I wanted Blue to be a mystical terror, like those in ancient folklore with some kind of serpent or threat deep in the ocean. I got that inspo from a CHILDREN'S MOVIE (Ponyo by Studio Ghibli), the one scene where Granmamare was scene floating on her back in the ocean. A couple twists and change of setting/mood and she could turn into a horrifying monster floating on the ocean floor/surface. I imagined blue with big sharp psychopathic eyes that she opens rarely (Inspo from Ballora, FNAF) and a screeching laugh. I also took Inspo from that one scene in SU with malachite in chains, so instead of malachite being in chains on the ocean floor it was Blue. ALSO (one more thing) Blue can be such a cinnamon roll, she is amazing and I think it would great to see that side of her in the show..but I believe that the redemption arc is something I don't see fitting. She was a mass murderer who inflicted pain on others and I don't think it would be very easy for her to relieve that traumatic experience in just a few episodes. So instead, I decided that Blue would lose her sanity and well being after the loss of Pink Diamond, (which is kinda fitting since her powers revolve on emotion and psychological control..)

It has been 2 years. 2 YEARS!!! i've been hoping and waiting for episode 2 of this cause i really like the way u rewrite steven universe. It's brings out my fav characters that weren't focused in the original story.😭❤❤❤

I don't think it should be to involved with pink diamond, I feel like there should be more focus on side characters like peridot, lapis, and so many others!
thats why I loved the jasper bit, jasper is a good guy in my view, jasper did go a bit crazy but if you where in her place wouldn't you?
More stuff involving Lapis, Jasper and Peridot. They all have their issues that need to be worked out, and more character development is always a treat.

This is amazing, I know it's probably never going to happen but I would love to see this animated into an actual fan episode
