Hahahaha. Well, it kind of does, our brains tend to underestimate the size of squares. Also I think he was trying to account for countries with lakes, Archipelagos, and large bodies of water within its borders.

Actually Drew, the country being nearer to the equator does not make it misleading, if anything it’s the most accurate representation of the size of the nation on a flat map. Europe is a really small place compared to every other continent, they appear larger on a flat map due to being far away from the equator
Yes I have a map behind me and I can guarantee it goes through North Brazil Indonesia and the democratic republic of the Congo those are not in order some country as it passes through and it starts in the Caribbean you have to go through all of North Africa to get to Europe from the equator
