  • Watch as Marsha shares with us how to use a crayon resist technique to make detailed prints. She starts with a wax crayon, and rubs the crayon onto paper that is lying on top of some found textures. She uses placemats, stencils and hand drawings. Once she has created the crayon rub, she applies a layer of paint to her 5" x 7" Gelli Arts® printing plate and then presses the crayon resist paper into the painted plate. She then removes the crayon resist and pulls a print of the design left on the plate. Fun to think of all the unique prints you can create with this technique.

    I had a try this afternoon, the frontage worked really well, pleased with the results. Any clues, tips how to improve on the ghost print? I didn't get a print to do the second go.

    • @marshavalk
      @marshavalk Před 6 lety +2

      Catherine Peddel Do you mean step 1 and step 2? If yes: the ghost print can improve by trying a different kind of crayon or a different paint consistency. A combo of oil pastel for the rubbing and a heavier body paint (I used Talens Amsterdam) for printing gave me the boldest results, but you might prefer a different combo. Experiment with the supplies you have in your stash to find out!

  • @lindaromano5657
    @lindaromano5657 Před 6 lety

    I spent about two hours experimenting with glossy and mat magazine pages and I didn’t get one successful transfer. That said I wiped back, with baby wipes, the paint covered mag pages and got some very nice abstract pages with a bit of the images and colours emerging through the paint (dark colours as recommended). Moody pages that could come in handy down the road.

    @vonaldautterback8831 Před 5 lety +2

    Thank you, Marsha! What type(s) of paper are you using for the prints? And can you use simple Crayola crayons or do they need to be art crayons?

    • @marshavalk
      @marshavalk Před 4 lety +3

      Hi Vonalda! So sorry I missed your question before! I usually print on drawing/sketchpaper (200 gr). My favourite is a white paper that comes in a pad that I can buy at the corner store. So it's nothing fancy and I can easily get a replacement pad when I run out ;-). The crayon brand does not matter as long as it isn't a water-soluble kind. You can even make it work with a candle! Have fun gel printing!

      Yvonne M, it's also called chipboard. She's using a light- or medium-weight chipboard. Really, you don't need to buy it unless you want a lot of it (check out Amazon or Uline). Seems like it's everywhere in packaging and notepads, etc.

    Hoi Marsha, door de gelli plate challenge van Birgit K wil ik eens met jouw gave techniek aan de slag maar nu ben ik heel benieuwd wat die 'china marker' precies is en of je daar een alternatief voor weet misschien ? Ik vond op google dat het een krijt achtige potlood is en dat ie enkel bij de penstore online te koop is, het is vast een hele vettige soort potlood ? Zou het ook werken met de Faber castell colour potloden ?

    • @marshavalk
      @marshavalk Před 6 lety +2

      Hey Marleen! Je kunt zo'n china marker vaak ook wel bij een lokale kunstenaarsbenodigdheden- of hobbywinkel vinden. Hobbyisten gebruiken 'm bijv. wel eens om kleine kraaltjes oid op te pakken omdat hij idd vet is. Ik vermoed dat Faber Castell kleurpotloden niet vet genoeg zijn, maar ik heb ze niet, dus ik kan het helaas niet voor je testen. Maar... ik neem aan dat jij ze wel hebt, dus... probeer het gewoon! Wasco en oliepastel werkt sowieso wel goed! Veel plezier!!
