I really like the brayered Vaseline technique. I new petroleum jelly prevents acrylic paint from sticking. I use Vaseline resists in my journal and on canvasses. However I always thought it would be to gloopy for gel prints and that it might damage plate. I’m so exited to have learned about using a brayer to apply it. Thank you. I primarily use Vaseline to prevent the lids on glue and paint from sticking. It works on nail polish too. I smear jelly on the threads of screw on caps. It not only prevents the lid from being glued on, it also helps to achieve a bit tighter seal. It helps to make glue and paint last longer. Another tip I swear by is using Press-N-Seal on wide mouth jars like the old Dylusions paints and texture paste jars. First I smear the threads with Vaseline, then lay the Press-N-Seal across the opening, and finally tighten the cap down. Works a treat. It’s so disappointing to get ready to play only to find your pretty paints all dried out.

Interesting. You might want to try fine powdered marble dust as VS the baby powder. It is super inexpensive and may prove to be more archival than especially scented baby powder. You can purchase an nice size bag of it on ebay. I use it as an additive to my gesso for priming my oil painting canvases.

I really appreciate how fast you move through the examples, but clearly explain what is going on. So many videos are slow and I find myself fast forwarding or giving up completely. Beautiful examples of resist techniques!
Do you need to ask the photographer if you can use their photos??are can you give knowledgement to the photographer on back of art piece ?These are really lovely creative art pieces..enjoyed video and found it interesting and informative..
I totally get your point (and agree) -but I think a lot of CZcamsrs assume that you will slow down or freeze the video if there's something you want to look at (I know - who wants to mess with it - but still...) If you go into the settings of the video (the three little dots in upper right on your phone (and maybe a little gear of you're on computer?)) then you can adjust the speed and rewatch a section. It messes up the sound but you can take a better look. Hope that helps - LOTS of crafting videos are in fast forward - it's just kinda the style these days I think. Take care!
Hi There megan! Drying time can varying depending on what kind of acrylic is used, how much is applied and the climate you live in. That being said, acrylic paint is one of the fastest drying medium so it shouldn't take as long as other mediums.
Hey Memory Traveler! Gel Press plates are mineral oil based so there should be no ill effects to use Vaseline on your plate. Especially since the Vaseline is applied more to your print and very little ends up on the plate. I hope this helps!

It looks and smells gross. Somehow, I don’t think that’s what you meant. What did you mean? Knowing would be helpful for viewers who prefer one result over the other ... and don’t have easy access to smelly water.
Stagnant can also mean boring or overdone. Aside from your snarky comment, what did you think of the techniques she demonstrated? We’re not here for semantics, we’re here to learn new or interesting techniques. These will help make my Gelli prints a little less...stagnant.
The idea of using a brayer to apply Vaseline is marvelous.
