A year after the Infinity Saga concluded, and as New Rockstars wraps our Infinity Saga rewatch series, we now finally unveil our OFFICIAL RANKING of all 23 MCU films from 2008 to 2019! Erik Voss explains why we’ve held off ranking these films until now, BUT, what methodology now makes us comfortable comparing each film head to head. Between Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame, which is the better film? Why is Captain America Civil War an overrated MCU movie, and why are Iron Man 3 and Doctor Strange so underrated? Which is the WORST MCU film, which is the most “skippable,” and why are those two different things? Civil war is much deeper than you describe it to be, especially when you have winter soldier that high. It is literally a continuation of that story. Yes the title is the same as the comic but that doesn't mean its taking everything from the comics. Which mcu movie even did?
I mean just because it’s a follow up to one of if not the best MCU movie doesn’t necessarily mean it’s great on its own. It’s definitely very good but I agree that it’s slightly overrated. GotG 2 is very good too but isn’t made better just because it’s a continuation of GotG 1

Civil war deserves more credit for the realistic and relatable opinionated story arch
Civil War practically set up infinity war
It tries to be more grounded but it gloriously fails. A lot of plot holes and characters acting out of character to justify their battles and conflicts.
Some small events here and there, also happen in Endgame that were just for pure fan service.

I personally think Far From Home is better than Homecoming, but respect the list! My number one MCU film (and one of my favorite films in general) is Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Infinity war is my favorite but it has small issues like Thor’s entire arc of ragnarok being him learning he doesn’t need the hammer and then the first time he’s threatened in infinity war he immediately thinks “I need I hammer!”

Civil War, Thor Ragnarok, Inifnity War, and Endgame are a 4-part epic. Change my mind.
Civil war just didn't do it for me. Partially caused by the name drop of civil war. In the comics, it was a full-on war caused justly. This "civil war" was one fight with very little consequences.

I personally think that Endgame and Infinity War are higher up on the list. The risk in both movies was really high, and the glimmer of hope in Endgame after years of hopelessness really drives the story.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 deserves to be higher mainly because of Baby Groot, but also because it was the only other MCU movie besides Endgame to make me cry like a baby

They had to nerf Vision He’d be too powerful even for Thanos to handle, if healthy. It was a very smart way to nerf him via a surprise attack with a powerful Glave.

Before Guardians came out, I thought this would have been a flop, it’s in my top 3 MCU. I was disappointed on my first watch of Captain Marvel but enjoyed it more on my rewatch.
I'm the opposite with Captain Marvel, coming out of the theater I loved it, but upon rewatches it's fallen into my bottom 5 in the MCU.
same. I think the capt. marvel lacked much of a high-stakes climax, but the rest was very enjoyable

I don’t think I’ve actually heard a good point against civil war from someone who knows what they are talking about. And I don’t just mean “it’s bad. It’s overrated. Plot bad” that isn’t a point I mean no one has said a good well thought out point about civil war yet.

Two adjustments: Far From Home should switch places with Homecoming as well as Black Panter with Civil War. Just my humble opinion.

Avengers 1 is my favourite. It was the first MCU film I saw and I didn’t get confused at all. It was made in a way that a few seconds of flashbacks could tell the whole stories of the characters. I actually have antman in my top 5. The comedy was refreshing after age of ultron.
I’m surprised that Antman was 19, for me it’s top 3, it’s action was groundbreaking, and really pulled off the heist genre phenomenally.

The Incredible Hulk is Marvel's most underrated move. It was a little disjointed, there were a bunch of really cool moments. If only they could have strung those moments together a little better.

Interesting list. Instead of questioning the movie placement I would question the categories. I would swap 'Villain' for 'Risk'. We remember superhero movies as much for the villains than how 'risky' it is. A lot of our fave MCU films had great charismatic villains.
But overall, I enjoyed this video and understood his logic even if I didn't agree at times.
Surprised that captain marvel was so low. Like I didn’t like the movie. But dang I think it’s better then the Incredible Hulk.

The Story and the Writing are the most important elements of a movie. Without a story you don't have a movie. You can have as much action and fan service as possible it still won't make the film competent.

GOTG had a shit villain. Although the story and the chemistry between each character are great, the villain needed work. I don't think I can put it top just for that reason but its definitely in the top 5.

It tried to b an iconic comic book story and a cap focused film but i think they should’ve done two different films or saved civil war for the future when there are more characters like in the comic
i loved civil war a lot, but it just isn't a captain america movie. for that i resent it. cap's story and arc got so shafted due to that movie.

captain marvel being so low has triggered me - despite a perhaps formulaic storyline it had great world building, necessary moving into phase 4 for the mcu, and great action

Civil War below Dr.Strange seriously
Same every movie I disagreed with accept thor the dark world and hulk should be one lower
Civil war was kind of just like, look they’re fighting each other now. Whereas Dr Strange was a very well written story that really added to the world building of the mcu, and introduced some of the best characters. Kaecillius it probably one of the best written villains of all time, as he has a fairly legitimate point of view and is correct to a certain extent. He truly believes that what he is doing is the right thing to do. It doesn’t have as much humor as some of the other films do, but when it does have a joke they’re funny and well written.

The two Ant mans are some of my favorite movies I feel childish now
as regular movies theyre amazing, but as MARVEL movies, they're "eh"

While captain marvel certainly isn't in my top 10, maybe not even my top 15, in my opinion it was as fine as a movie as the ant mans were at least. But it was leagues better than Hulk.
Doctor Strange is always my favorite solo movie, it's just so fascinating to see how things work inside the mirror dimension and anything that has to do with good use of time manipulation is always a good film for me

I know I just wish it was longer they did such good job with the fx but the character development besides doctor strange and the ancient one was just poor

What a smart ranking! Your personal perspective is interesting and I appreciate that you also tried to quantify your picks as much as possible. Guardians Vol 2 is my personal favorite and I was initially disappointed to see it so low, but it made sense when considering your "risk" category. I'm proud to see the first Guardians in the top spot, backed up by your science!

Slide Infinity War to 2, replace Endgame with The Avengers and that’s my list. The top 5 or so are so good though I can’t blame anyone’s order of them

I respect all the choices you’ve made and the reasoning behind them has opened up my eyes to some of the films deeper meanings, also think I strongly agree with the guardians being first, it really did open up a lot to what can happen in the MCU. Now I’m looking forward to the Raimi Spiderverse rewatch 😁😁👌
