I have thought this as well with the very similar physical appearance and innate technological mastery. the Ethereals are biological constructs by the toad wizards or the silent robot king. If you look closely, there's a Xenos race that represents a natural manifestation of every Chaos God in the 40K setting, with Necrons being the green unkillable harbingers of death, the Eldar explain themselves, and you could associate the Orks with Khorne, though I would go as far as to say that Khorne is the one Chaos God that hasn't manifested in the form of a Xenos faction (yet).
But when you look closely at the T'au, you'll begin to see "Tzeentch" written all over the walls. Ranged attacks akin to spells; the will to improve everything; the tendency to manipulate, or to be manipulated; always coming up with something new...
Countrary to the other Chaos Gods, you'd think Tzeentch would actively go out of his way to create his own Xenos faction, just to be a Contrarian, but overall the colour blue is either an unintentional invitation for him to take the wheel, or an omen that he already has. All according to plan...

Very interesting, if I might add my own speculation to this creative idea: IF the emperor is the 5th chaos god, the chaos god of ‘order’ or ‘domination’ as some have said- then the chaos storm which formed in M35 has an interesting reading… it mirrors the formation of the Eye of Terror during the birth of Slaanesh. The small size of the storm is explained by the T’aus small presence in the Warp and the cause of the birth would be their civil war.
It is worth noting that at this time the Empire was undergoing a schism that split the empire in two, perhaps this is when the Emperor decided to jump ship from humans and find a new species that would unquestioningly obey his will.
With this in mind, the Greater Good isn’t a force of Chaos Undivided, but the Dark King spreading his ‘Anathema’ across the galaxy: total Undivided Order.

3 issues with this theory. 1 the Tau evolved to a point of having a near cut off connection to the warp. 2 the Tau are explicitly stated by chaos to be useless to their cause as corrupting them using their souls and such is like trying to sustain off of gnats. 3 the ethereal have no warp sensitivity and the goddess only came into existence after the humans and other psychically powerful races were introduced to the greater good. The Tau scoff and are disgusted by their goddess. Tau are atheist for a reason. They can't be of the warp as they evolved to not need it due to the dire circumstances they found themselves in evolving away from psychic presence and evolving to withstand it. Now are they maybe the creations of the old ones, necrons, or who knows some other warp deity giving the species a fighting chance who knows but GW handles aliens about as well as they handle creme parfee. I don't expect it to be any form of logical, reasonable or interesting and instead just be a retcon.

The Tau themselves are useless to the chaos gods and have a weakened connection to the warp, but they have the grand goal of absorbing every race into their ideology and society. You stated that the goddess only appeared after humans and others joined them.
The Tau are no good sustenance to Chaos as the bait is no sustenance to the fisherman. The fish, however...
I still don't believe the Tau were somehow created by chaos. I think it's more likely they're connected with the Old Ones, the necrons and the Ctan.

If it is chaos, Tzeentch seems like the perfect deity to push for a 'greater good' that operates like a ideological cult or even all the deities are just tapping things to offer them tastes for future temptations, like a nurgle making a disease which defeats your enemies that you are immune or Slaneesh wooing them with her hips and four crabby arms.

Ok, why would Chaos Gods make them have such a small warp presence? I could argue that Humanity was made by Tzeetch shooting a magic laser at some random ape. Humanity has a pretty big warp presence and short lifespans which makes them pretty good for feeding chaos tons of souls if these humans were to create a large empire occupying thousands if not millions of planets. We know that humanity is also pretty religious because the first time psykers appeared among them they called them witches. That is not a term secular society would use. What if humanity is the biggest Trojan horse of Chaos or what if the War in Heaven was started by Tzeetch. Tzeetch could have led Necrons to find C'tan and trick the Old Ones to create the Elder to be a certain way.
Another thing about Tau. The Ethereals are actively trying to stop the worship of the Tau goddess. If they were Chaos puppets then they would just immediately worship her.

The blood ritual isn't come kind 'splill your blood into a cauldron an drink it kind of ritual" it's more of a cutting ceremony. At the worst, I heard they literally cut the T'ua symbol on eachothers chest, pretty ahrd core, but nothing that screams blood rituals of khorne. Not to mention, Khorne would NEVER accept a fighting style like the T'au. But it's more of a bonding ceremony where they cut themselves and mix their blood to 'bond' to one another. A practice that has been fairly normal across human history.
Slaanesh ain't doing nothing for the T'au cause they don't encourage ideas of lovem lust or intimacy. Or even over indulgence.
Nurgle, they ain't disgusting and besides the plague that wiped out the the first race they encountered, they have no real connection to plague or disgusting stuff. The plague probably was similiar to when eurpeans came to the north america and got the natives sick.
Tzeeentch is the closest god I can think, but they aren't diplicitous , often. Battle strategies like from Kouyon can be tricksy but as a whole the T'au don't seem to be a dishonest faction. infact they are almost too honest.(except the ethereals) And I doubt chaos gods want to have another chaos god to contend with, they seem to actively avoid letting a fifth chaos god exist.... unless you consider they actually wanted the emperor to turn into one. Cause four gods means the great game theoretically can't end, a new god throws that out of balance.
I think it's the creation of the goddess of the greater good is total accident. The ethereals learned of this, and seemed to seriously consider killing all the auxilaries, whcih to me says the ethereals know alot more than they let on. maybe they have made a deal with chaos in the pastlike the emperor seemed to do to gain the knowledge to make the primarchs and stuff. If anyone is related to chaos it's the ethereals, the rest have no connection at all. And it might be that the ethereals are protecting the T'au from chaos.
When farsight nearly got tempted by Khorne, it was mysteriously after the world eater killed all the ethereals in his forces. But he proved the t'au can resistthe call without the ethereals, and that scares them.

even the tau, the adorable little doomed materialists in a universe full of magic, demons, and gods, don't attempt to assume a moral high ground in their argumentation. they are pragmatists, not moralists - and this is 40k. anybody taking or assuming that a moral high ground exists somewhere in this setting should prolly stick to star trek.
40k absolutely 100% needed a faction of brutally pragmatic yet tragically naive stalinists. it helps pull the setting away from all the tolkien shit, and it fills a necessary role in the ideological structure of the lore.

    • @postholocene
      @postholocene Před měsícem

The theory is creative but only a hand full kinda hold it up and ngl the idea of them being chaos is so lame. What makes the tau interesting is that they don’t have a god and they are hopeful new comers in a jaded galaxy that hates everyone so a faction that breaks the norm is nice. Also the chaos gods would have no way of telling that the tau were even a thing their souls are so small that they don’t appear on the radar for demons. Those tau that went into the warp in the 4th sphere all of them lived because the demons ether didn’t notice them or didn’t care enough to kill them because trying to fuck with a taus soul is more effective then it’s worth. Not to mention that whenever the tau and chaos interact they always fight and the ethreals themselves put any kind of demon on the shoot on sight list

    The Tau are not Chaos.
The Tau are what Chaos was before it became Chaos.
The Fire Caste (Shas) = Khorne
The Earth Caste (Fio) = Nurgle
The Water Caste (Por) = Tzeentch
The Air Caste (Kor) = Slaanesh
Now, the "how and why" of it all is a mistery, but it could be an attempt to reach some sort of status that existed BEFORE humanity messed up the Warp. Slaanesh may have been birthed by the Eldar, but Khorne and Nurgle were driven insane by Humanity. At least according to the oldest lore ... I have no idea about Tzeentch.
