    The Tau are the newest and most naive faction in the setting of 40k, so how did they react to all the insanity unfolding around them?

    What I love about the Tau is that you can fool them, beat them, vandalize them and manipulate them...but usually you can only do it once.
    Case and point after the whole debacle with the dark eldar they actually managed to trick them by setting up an ambush them in a civilian multi coltured world within their Empire knowing that the dark Eldar just couldnt resist the opportunity to obtain so many diffetent kinds of slaves. Anyway after the DE invaded they waited for them to get too high from their raid and then proceeded to take them by surprise and massacre every single one of them.
    Another example is with the Titans during the 2nd Damocles crusade where they equipted their tigersharks with weapons specifically designed to take out Titans. After the first one fell the rest shat themselves and were evacuated.

    The Tau are the only faction I can really engage with. The rest of 40k is interesting and fun, but it's so absurd and extreme that it's hard to actually care. It feels like a lot of the other factions will occasionally act in ways that don't make sense for that faction (and this also extends down to the character level) simply because more gore and tragedy is what the fanbase wants. The Tau always act in a way that makes sense for the Tau; they learn from their mistakes and react to them but still approach situations like Tau. I think a lot of the fanbase dislike for Tau comes from them behaving more rationally and not engaging as much as the other factions in some of the more ridiculous tragedies that occur.

    Y'know, the Tau not being all too connected with the warp while the other races under their banner are is both a really cool and horrifying concept.
    Since if the Tau weren't under scrutiny from Chaos before, adding a ton of humans who aren't very capable of rationalizing outside of faith is going to put a blip on the radar and that's only going to grow as the Tau expand.
    The idea about there now being a literal representation of the greater good in the warp seems like it'll help balance that out, but it's just going to get harder and harder for the Tau to rationalize without giving up and saying "Yeah, that just works." and becoming susceptible to psykers and warp corruption.

    I think you skimmed over the best part about the Tau and the Necrons: The Tau leadership and Ethereals DON’T KNOW THE NECRONS EXIST 😂 The very few incidents of the Tau coming across Necrons have resulted in no survivors escaping or being able to communicate with leadership what happened. So the Tau fleets and worlds that have come under Necron attack were just assumed to have been lost…and the Tau don’t know why or how. They are totally ignorant as a civilization that one of the largest factions in 40k exists.

    • @minticusmaximus4288
      @minticusmaximus4288 Před rokem +33

      Ok this sounds funny but is 100% untrue. Like, the Ethereals know a LOT they don't let on, with many turncoat inquisitors, spies, and a vast empire (not the biggest but vast). They have had so many chances to learn about every force they'll be fighting in the 40k universe, so knowledge of the Necrons is not that difficult to find.
      Plus... you know the simple fact the Tau have fought and *won* against the Necrons? Meaning many surviving Tau have seen them in battle and know of them. Like at Malbede, where Ultramarines and Tau combat awoke the Tomb World, forcing both forces to focus on the Necrons. Or the Dark Crusade, where the Tau had border skirmishes with Necron before being pushed off world by Blood Raven
      The Tau *100%* know what the Necrons are. This isn't even old lore, some of these battles happened 20 IRL years ago

    • @owentalbert6602
      @owentalbert6602 Před rokem +3

      @@minticusmaximus4288 Yea you may have a point that there are probably some Ethereals that do know have some awareness of what the Necrons are. They are more aware than people give them credit for. But current cannon indicates that the interactions between Necrons and Tau are extremely limited. It’s stated in the 6th edition codex I believe on a map that there are no active tomb worlds in Tau space (though there are almost certainly some slumbering ones.) The means their only cannon interactions really come from accidental encounters with fleets in the void and Necron invasions on Tau worlds in order to fight Tyranids. Other than battle reports, I’m not aware of any cannon Tau victories against the Necrons but if you have that information I’d love to hear about it. The only few interactions I have ever read about, between the Necrons and Tau ended in the total destruction of the Tau. By in large, it is definitely cannon that the Tau population and most of the Tau military is unaware of the Necrons existence. If the Ethereals did know about the Necrons, they would certainly keep them a secret from the population as any civilization with technology more advanced than their own would be a serious threat to the greater good and would seriously undercut the Etherials power and standing amongst the Tau allies.
      If anything, I would argue that the Kroot likely are more familiar with the Necrons than the Tau. There are a lot of Kroot mercenaries spread out across the imperium who split off from the Tau and they would much more likely hear about tombworlds.

      @@owentalbert6602 I mean, only a handful of Inquisitors in the Imperium know of the Necron's existence as well.
      Anyways I think there are a few victories or ties mentioned in the Codex, though the word 'necrons' isn't used, so much as 'then some really advanced robots showed up, what the fuck was that?' Tieing is generally the best one can hope for against the Necrons, though.

    There was a battle report in White Dwarf about Tau confrontation with Slaanesh cultists, where they were thinking Slaanesh was the name of their cult leader, like they were worshiping some vain prick to be a god. And of course they considered warp mutations of Kroot who were eating cultists' corpses an unknown, but completely natural phenomenon.
    Also, you've forgotten to mention that Mortarion and his Death Guard wrecked some Tau worlds in current edition, not really caring about their worth.
