- It's a spicy one! You tell me! I will say I am a little bias, because the match after this one ended with this guy telling our team to "Sit the F*** down and Shut the F*** up" when I told him he wasn't allowed to give free timeouts to his 3-speed!! xD LOL. Gotta love this stuff... Enjoy this APA League Night 8-ball match guys!

I like what you said about "he's playing another game" - that's exactly what those sharking tactics are about. Whether he knows it or not, the things he's doing are negatively affecting his opponent's play. After 9 years in the league, you should absolutely be aware of things as simple as standing close to the table while your opponent is shooting, approaching the table during their shot, moving around in their sight line (within reason), GRABBING YOUR CHALK OFF THE TABLE WHILE THEY'RE SHOOTING. At a certain point, we can't give someone like that the benefit of the doubt. There's certainly room to address it with them during the match, but it's also easy for tempers to flare and for our Fight-Flight-Freeze to kick in. Good on Ron for keeping his cool. Thanks for sharing the match. Lots to learn from this one.
Later in the night, when he again sidestepped etiquette, I approached and asked if he was new to league, since he seems to have abandoned several rules and all of the etiquette… to which he screamed at me that hes been playing in this league for 9 years and I need to gtfo his face 😂
Everyone in the room that knew him, pretty much gave me the “told you so” about his attitude haha. 🤷🏻♂️ some people man…
Thanks though!!!
After some consideration, I've decided that his lack of etiquette (provided it isn't just malicious) isn't too surprising...after all, the guy is playing at a beginners skill level with nearly a decade at least of experience!! Clearly he doesn't catch onto things quickly, and that may include simple etiquette that's normally gleaned just from observing social cues.
@@drewvonporte9 years into APA and he’s a 4? No wonder he’s a dick, I’d be mad if I was that bad after a decade of playing pool.
“You mind doing that…anywhere else” is an all-time Ron quote.
I think nine nights out of ten he comes away with a win. Bad vibes. Can’t wait to see these two in a rematch! 😉
👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼 😂
The first instance I can let go as a lack of awareness. The second time he approached the table and the chalking crap, he absolutely knew what he was doing, in my opinion.
I can appreciate that, being that you have no context on his behavior apart from this 😅... Thanks for chiming in !!
No way around it so I'll just say it-I absolutely hate playing people like this. Either just a total dbag or no sense of self awareness, and neither one is good.
👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼
He is definitely sharking him!
It’s impressive …. Lol….
Grabbing the chalk and chalking up while your man is shooting, in his line of sight!? I'd have had strong words with that guy if I were at the table.
Bro……………… I was stupified
So I have played against people who just have no spacial awareness and no common sense, however, this guy knows what he is doing. APA is supposed to be friendly.
One thing that I always say to someone sharking - "You must not be able to beat me fairly." That always gets under their skin.
That's funny!!! You're so right, though.
At 11:07 definitely a good hit. Resulting in a loss for Ron.
To say it was “definitely” a good hit, with this view, from this far away…. Even slowed down…. Might be a bit optimistic. Which Ill take any optimism we can get 😅
But it def was too close to call for the opponent to see it far away and call it himself 😂😂 whatever man 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ heda lost regardless, which is why we both just laughed about him really wanting ball-in-hand anyway
This last example when dude stood up was unacceptable. I woulda stared at him till he sat his ass down. Or told him to, the other instance he was barely in view..
Thats fair!
I normally go take a sip off my drink and then come back and smile and let them know I can wait until they are ready to hand over the table to me properly. Although, in a bar situation, I welcome it, so it gives me practice dealing with it. Have you ever been or watched matches in the Philippines? Lol
That’s a good point in using the Saturday night bar distraction games as practice for actual matches…
I’ve seen videos lol… completely different vibe for sure!!
8:10 was also another double hit
😅😅😅…….. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️………….
When I first started in league I was so excited about competiting I stood right up beside the table to watch my opponent. I was quickly told not to do that by my team captain. It wasn't sharking because I didn't know any better. If you suspect a double hit is about to occur you have two choices. Say nothing and live with your opponents view of the shot or call for the shot to be watched. When an experienced player fouls and doesn't owe up to it that's cheating. The worst offenders are often drunk. I'll point out the infraction but it it's going to get ugly I'll let it go. Plus in those cases I"m going to win regardless.
Based on the angle he was kicking from and the 8 ball hitting the top point he hit the 7 first.
I honestly thought, at best, they were same time… which I give to the shooter.
But it’s ok, luckily this guy was watching it for us 8 feet away 🤙🏼
One rack in:
1st double hit was as obvious as they come. The second one sure looked like a double hit too, but the balls were so far apart I feel like he would have had to do that on purpose!
So few people know how to see a double hit in the APA - I think the Dr Dave video should be required viewing for anyone who's an SL 4 or above. I've had our league operator watch shots like that first one, and been flabbergasted when he says "good hit".
The kick on the 7 really looks like a foul when advancing frame by frame (you can see the 8 ball start moving before the 7), but in real time, there's no way I call that. Especially since the out was there anyway.
I can’t agree with you more!!! 💯💯💯
Thank you for chiming in, seriously 🤙🏼🤙🏼 we’ll get the next one 🔥
No way Ron or Jon are what their skill levels indicate. They are both a skill level under.
Also, if you let one rack get to you that much, there is a lot to learn. Because you are just getting in your own head. From what I’ve seen, it’s best to learn from that first rack and adjust accordingly and not get worked up about a competitive match. Ron might be a noble honest guy but once people realize that, some don’t give a damn and will take advantage of that.
Ivan, you and Ryu will both have to stick around and watch Ron progress. I’ll make you both believers in time!!
Ron actually does a lot better with these silly situations than I do. I lose focus and see Red in these moments…. Which is why I’m selective with who I gamble with, or I’ll lose my ass 😂
He *really* needed to win this one ………
That was tough to watch...
Shoulda been there in person … 🤢
The guy should deal with it. The guy probably doesn't realize.
For sure
@10:55 too close to see. Looked like it hit both at the same time to me. But probably didn't matter like you said. Ball in hand shape anyways.
Unfortunately…. 😔
the first one was clearly a double hit, but nobody watching means it goes to the shooter. the second one, he was shooting away from the 9 ball, so without being on top of it being a watcher I would say 'good hit'. Without knowing the layout of the room, I didn't think he was 'too' close. I've played some crowded tight places where your opponent almost has to be standing a foot from the talbe, so hard to tell. BUT, if my opponent walks up the table right as I'm getting ready to shoot the 8 then I consider that as conceding the match and I'll not shoot at it. The second time where he walked up while our guy was getting ready to shoot - sharking. And, the following kick shot to call that a safe - BS. The third time when he walks up and picks up chalk off the table, I'm talking to his captains and/or league operator. The shot on the 7 ball was clearly 8 ball first based of trajectory of the balls. But, probably hard to pick up real time without a spotter looking over it. I had the advantage of stop/start video. But, somebody should have yelled for a spotter well before theshot.
I will tell you, I can get petty at times. So, if he didn't stop , and his captain didn't have him stop then I would have been blatantly sharking him the remainder of the match. In a similar situation a few years ago had a guy doing this to one of my players. His captain said "well, that' just him" and left it at that. The next time his guy got down on a shot I took two cubes of masters up to the table, rolled them across the table and yelled "come on SEVEN". Then said "Oh, I'm sorry, were you about to shoot". Almost caused an escalated confrontation, but I got my point across.
George…. He’s their team captain….
Later, his SL-3 got to the 8-ball and he *very* loudly explained EXACTLY what he would do, incredibly loud. Enough that his 3 stopped and looked at him 😂.
I said across the table “hey, so is that your timeout?”
To which he said “You guys need to shut the F up and sit the F down!!” 😂
I approached and assumed he must be new to the APA and organized pool based on all of these events. He said he’s been playing in this APA for “9 F-ing years”.
….. win some, lose some.
@@drewvonporte with this type of attitude and his mannerisms i've come to the conclusion the guy is just an azzhole. Just sayin
When they come to the table like that, I just stand up and stare at them. Usually they get the hint. Unless it is an accident, which sometimes legitimately happens. I would have liked your buddy to have played a few more safeties instead of taking some of those tougher shots. Sorry about having to deal with sharking in this match. Unfortunately, we see it all too often.
Yeah, it’s tough…. Thanks, but you’re right, it happens unfortunately 👎🏼
You need to teach your guys how to do Safeties. If you can't make a shot, stick the other guy.
You’re telling me 😅
I think "Jon" was just ignorant, not sharking; but I could be wrong.
Hey you’re totally right man! Hard to make it 9 years in this league without catching on to etiquette but 🤷🏻♂️
My for thought was he was just a jerk that doesn’t know any better. Two things changed my mind; 9 years playing in a league and as soon as Ron asked him to “stand anywhere else”, he stopped doing it.He’s had 9 years to perfect his technique.
Right????…. Ugh… some people, man…
i thought in vegas rules if you sink the white on the eight ball your opponent still had to run out with ball in hand? Bar rules it is game over.
APA a scratch on the 8 is a loss. I believe in BCA a scratch on the 8 is not a loss and the opponent gets ball-in-hand.
@@drewvonporte Thanks, I am from Canada so not familiar with the apa rules. BCA there is no slop also?
@@repentofidols yes, I believe BCA is call-your-pocket 🤙🏼
He plays on Monday and Thursday nights…this sharking is NOTHING in comparison to those nights
😂😂 Well I’m sorry you have to deal with that then sheeeeeeesh!
First you got to call me to watch those shots. They were all pushed or double hits. Second he may have been sharking may not it was hard to tell. Either way Ron needs to toughen up. He needs to practice with distractions so this won’t hurt him. I know personally sharking doesn’t really affect me but years of full contact competitive sports helps. He can’t touch you so just make the shot and look and smile the sharks will stop. Ron got rattled and Ron should look at himself and get sharkproof. Go play in a bar and sharks are everywhere it’s comical to me.
Check his stats
🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ water under the bridge
I have commented that Ron should not be a 5 in one of your previous videos. @19:50 a 5 should not be missing the 8 as bad as he did, but even before that shot @19:40 Ron should have drawn the cue ball back about 8-12 inches. Ron's bridge may be a little longer than in the past so that he can let his stroke out better, but his stroke on the 7 had weak follow through. Sorry Drew, I still stand behind my assessment that Ron should not be a 5 yet.
Ryu, it will be my lifelong quest, to make you a believer 🙏🏼
Lol in all seriousness, I think I will succeed. Ron is still pretty new to the game and learning each week. He will be a 6 before the end of this year… and I will be making you all Rooster Ronians!!!
I look forward to seeing Ron's growth in this great game. I also look forward to watching more of your games and kicking @$$
@@cosc137 Ryu, I just know where he’s coming from and see the improvements happening. Hes progressing very quickly for someone who plays once, MAYBE twice a week. I’m trying to share each and every one of my ‘aha’ moments that took me years to figure out. I know how he sees the game, and oftentimes, (like this 8-ball), his errors are just lack of experience, which I’m FINE with. Those errors will start to come less and less and things will fall into place…. YOU WAIT AND SEE!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
At 19:50, you see him LIVE learn an *extremely* valuable lesson
Being passive aggressive with people is not the right answer. If you think someone is standing too close to the table just tell them that. If they keep doing it they are sharking.
You’re right, he probably doesn’t think that approaching the table can affect someone’s focus. That’s why I asked what you guys thought!
@@drewvonporte it will amaze you how many people don’t know proper etiquette until someone teaches them. My understanding is most people that join apa hang out in bars where it’s just a bunch of friends hanging out and drinking and putting their drinks on the rail. And they think that is proper. And obviously it’s not until someone tells them otherwise.
@@tryingtolearnthis you are definitely right, and he’s new in our division so.
I did end up approaching him later, asking him if he was newer, and saying that we felt he was throwing our league’s etiquette and rules to the wayside and it’s upsetting all of us.
To which he cut me off and told me he’s been playing in this F-ing league for 9 years so I need to shut the F up and sit the F down 😂…
So yes 🤷🏻♂️ it definitely amazes me haha thank you for weighing in!!
I think this guy knew what he was doing and has a background in bar pool, chalking while your opponent is shooting is just elementary school bs
Just wild man lol. Guys been playing for 9 years or whatever 🤯🤡
Chalking during his shot no good.
🚩🚩🚩
it does not make sense. in regular league play you sandbag if you are trying to cheat. you should hope that guy goes up because of those double hits, getting in line of site, etc. are you saying he was ALSO talking to his SL3 player when it was the SL3 turn without calling a timeout?! got to wonder where this guy played in league before.
He was talking to another person on his team about what the SL3 should be doing, very loudly. Enough that the SL3 stopped and looked at him as if he was talking to him 😂
He played around here, in Phoenix. A lot of the other players in my league warned me about him haha but I never expected this…. Sheeeeeesh
More than just rude. Rude ignorant and deliberate
That’s why I asked you guys…. He had a reputation about him but gatdamn! Wasn’t expecting THAT! 😅😅
@8:35 Call over a 3rd party to watch. This guy either has no etiquette or is ignorant of the rules. Plus calling over someone will get into his head. First time, shame on him. 2nd time shame on you if you don't call someone over.
100%. When he was doing it on the 9-ball (second time), I looked at Ron like “he can’t be serious?”… and Ron then told me he just did it a few minutes ago too 😂
Ay yi yi man
You just do it back to him.
Stoop to their level, i like it 😈
my lord your playing in a bar in obviously a bar league. i watched the vid to see a "shark" as in a money player. this guy is standing 4 ft away. the chalking incident your boy did a fair call but you guys need to be able to deal with every distraction there is. you talk about shooting tournaments but distracted by these little things? the cap guy is a poor shooter and any shooter should have run through him regardless.
They don’t call it “sharking” because of their pool skill! 😂😂
Haha that’s fine man, that’s why I asked your input! I think most of us in any organized league play expect a certain standard/respect… but not everyone does clearly! Thanks for your input!
They suck at lagging
You should see em' play! xD
Worst 4 and 5 iv seen
Thank you!
