    Personally I would have taken the A4 convertible. That has the strength built into the floor.

      It would have been too short.

      The truck bed adds most of the strength back. These kits are also not compatible with convertibles

      @seanshaw6311 Před 3 lety

      You are 100% correct. Guinuine convertibles have reinforced rocker and floor panels. Scary that these companies are in business. Would love to see destructive testing on these kits!

    the guys who had crappy comments, are the same guys at a baseball game with a beer a bucket of popcorn your gut hanging out and making fun of the guys on the field you never ran anything but your mouth. I love it buddy Keep building stuff!

    I don't get all the people crying in the comment section. The owner can do what he want's with his car and also Audi A4's aren't rare so not much is lost. This is a cool project and it's nice to see something different every once in a while. I'd say this is something quite refreshing to see at least for me. Also just to clarify, I don't know if i'd do this myself because the structural integrity is weakened but it's great to see someone had the courage and will to make this a project.

    • @jaythrash8804
      @jaythrash8804 Před 6 lety

      I guess it's because Audi's aren't as common in the US compared to Mercedes or BMWs? It's a cool project to take on, but I would probably use an old BMW instead. Like an E34 wagon, E46 hatch (like that one guy did here on YT) or even an E39 wagon.

  • @joshfoley8862
    @joshfoley8862 Před 6 lety +5

    What a great job! Looks really neat. I like the tailgate section. The curve to it really compliments the rest of the car. Sweet metal work.

  • @spanky522
    @spanky522 Před 5 lety +2

    It works better if you do it with a two door instead of a four door. I also found out that once you cut the top off, you will need to add more support to the under body to keep its rigidity. Most cars now are unibody so once you remove the top, it's very weak in the middle (the first bump you hit, you won't be able to open the doors!) I've done this to a Ford Pinto wagon, (Pinchero) which looked pretty cool. And I also made a little truck out of a Chevy Citation ("Camino") It's fairly easy to do with some body shop skills. If you cut it just right, you keep the taillights and rear portion, but you won't have a tailgate (didn't really need one anyway) The rear window on some cars will actually fit behind the cab too, so it looks factory built.

      Car guys always remove the emblems. Tacky decorations. That's the first thing that comes off on my rides. It's funny with my current ride. Is it a 86, frs or brz? Without the emblem no one really knows. I let them believe what they want 🙃

      These new luxopickups have nothing on an Audi!
      I like the clean debadged detrimmed look.
      It's as if you see it in clay(when they used to do it that way) before the bean counters hang on all that ugly stuff.

    I miss my old rabbit pickup , and I'm waiting on my kit for my mk4 Jetta.
    But an Audi?
    heh, that's luxury that only the big 3 can only dream of with these new 70-100k pickups.
    They can't even come close even if they used rich Corinthian leather.
    Hope you had a blast building it!
    I have some ideas for customizing mine a little , but I'll see how full my hands will be with the basic build.

  • @ijesus94
    @ijesus94 Před 5 lety +3

    I think we need to recognize all of the effort that was put on this car. Kudos for that. Now, just in my opinion, the fact that you can do something doesn't mean that you should.

  • @ShermanHerman
    @ShermanHerman Před 5 lety +11

    Impressive result, but as far as I could see, everything is attached by screws and rivets and made of Aluminium and glassfibre. What about the structural integrity?! You weaken the body dramaticly by removing the (half) roof unit and the C-PLR. In addition, if you are carry some load on the deck, you will get a banana 😂😳🙈

    I like that. Another vehicle that would make an interesting conversion would be the Crown Victoria or the Mercury Marquis as the platform essentially ran for over thirty years, they are well proven in untold millions of miles of harsh service and the buy in is quite modest. Too, a company named JVC or Japan Victory Company (or the like) made a fiberglass bed for a 91/96 Chevrolet Caprice several years ago and Superstepside made a fiberglass bed for the GM (Caprice.....) "box body" Cars. The possibilities are many.
