Brett let them know he knew the playbook and they literally had a psychological reaction to it (defensiveness) that confirmed that he had called them correctly. He knew the room was recorded. He knew there was no reason to ask him a question if they already knew the answer. He knew they are not on his side or looking out for him. He knew they are capable of lying.
He decided to move in his best interest after he saw the names of his accomplices and he knew that they would work in their own best interest having not established a usable alibi for all members involved. Them having the two other names was the deciding factor.
Loose lips sink ships, Brett knew THAT. There was literally no pressure, only him drawing it out to have them show him what HE needed to decide if he was going to talk. They NEVER outsmarted him

Brett definitely deserved the death penalty for what he did. He definitely deserved life with no parole. What he did was unforgivable. I don’t think his co-defendants deserved life though. I strongly believe they were shocked when they heard he killed her. Obviously, the law allows them to get life but it’s a waste of 3 lives to have the state support 3 people for not committing or intending to commit murder. It’s going to cost the public millions of dollars to house and care for them for the next 50+ years. Give them 20 years each for robbery.
