    I have a Revolver 1400kv with a Sidewinder 4 ESC and really like it. The Mamba X is nice for the adjustable BEC though. Just tell people that ask about the sound that it has a soundbox that's set on Tesla.

    Sound comes from the electric impulses from the esc and the outrunner acts as a speaker. Different esc's , different sounds.
    Yes , Holmes motors are stronger by far. He's been building them much longer and is the actual tech behind these motors.
    But I can't say anything bad about 3Brothers , they have really good motors....I have a couple of ACIS SIX motors but roughly 15 or 16 Holmes motors.
    Where'd you get the idea that you can't run Outrunners in 2-speed rigs? Or in bad conditions? Or bash with them? They are extremely durable. Rinse them with clean water, compressed are and oil the bearing it'll obviously last longer but even ran hard and put away wet they will last years.

    I'm looking for low speed crawling control on a Capra. I intend to keep it lightweight, of course with strategic weights for climbing performance. What's your take on motors? An outrunner (revolver, yellowjacket) at lower kv (1200 to 1800) or a sensored puller pro stubby in a similar kv range? I don't care too much about speed, want to keep weight fairly low. Punch occasionally matters of course, but the yellowjacket didn't seem too much worse than the revolver. I'm considering the sensored option because of the noise, I kind of like lower noise.

    Francis, I've had several conversations with John Holmes over the years... The KEY is Magnets! Holmes uses the highest quality Rare Earth Magnets that are almost twice as strong as in any other Motors.
    One thing I can't get the answer to is... I have flown RC Aircraft for years with Outrunners. NONE of them make that racket!! 😖
    Now, RC Aircraft ESCs are forward only (of course) but that can't be the only difference.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  Před 4 lety +3

      The reason outrunners don't make noise in planes or drones is because they are not modulated at very low rpms. That's where it makes noise and the outrunner serves as a speaker.

    • @CarminesRCTipsandTricks
      @CarminesRCTipsandTricks Před 4 lety +5

      @@RCReviewChannel Funny, John just finally gave me a reasonable answer too!!
      No, they're not modulated. Also the ESCs run at much lower frequencies, because there's no need for any slow speed control.
      He told me that if Outrunners catch on more, he's going to work on the "speaker" issue! Then he started going into quantum electronics, and totally lost me!! 😳😖
      Could be interesting... John is a brilliant Electronic Engineer. And a NERD!!! 😜

    2000kv Yellowjacket with about 60 hrs of crawl time on it and it has been flawless with the Copperhead10 ESC on a 2200 3s lipo. I don't use a fraction of the power this puts out with rock crawling. I could almost just set the transmitter to idle speed and just use steering alone. Hard to believe that this motor technology is a couple hundred years old by now.

    Greetings. Thanks so much for your work. We are happy to watch your work from Russia.
    For ourselves, we found that these engines are wonderfully controlled by ESC with BLHELI_32 firmware (BLHELI_S behaves worse) from quadrocopters.
    The firmware allows the engine to operate at VERY low speeds. The engine with these controllers runs silently. It remains cold. The regulator itself is tiny and costs $ 15. It supports up to 6S and can be easily sealed.
    It is necessary to switch it to Biderectional mode through the BlHeli configurator.
    Hope this helps you.

My son runs his in lake and river water often, does mudbogs sometimes(he did the Motor-drop conversion on his Trailfinder so its one of the first things to see crud) never cleans it...tho I do recommend cleaning it after with fresh water, compressed air and re-oil the bearing. I know of someone that runs deep mudbogs with a Revolver.

      That was more in the past when brushless motors were not sensored and jerky. Now, amazing brushless motors have been developed. And these new outrunner motor like the ones in this video have so much modulation and power density now. And they require very small batteries that can be placed anywhere.
      As far as John Holmes statement, he says a lot of high level competitions still have guys on brushed motors. That's likely cause they're old and have their brushed motor setups dialed perfectly already.
      In our local areas, competitions are dominated by brushless. Just so many more options with power, delivery and weight.
      That being said, very high-end brushed motors are still very good. But they require a lot of maintenance.

      I'm slowly replacing all my motors with outrunners but I'm not falling for the hype of rebranded drone motors "specially" designed for crawlers. I'd give HH a chance but not for that price. It's not my duty to overpay for something just because it's being sold by a small company. This other company... cheap Chinese drone/rc airplane motor with a fancy graphic. At the end of the day, esc is what matters. I can make a silent crawler esc with AM32 firmware for 30 dollars. Can't believe that people pay 100+ bucks for a flashed drone esc, either.
