Box File Model Railway - Scalescenes Canal Wharf - Micro Layout

  • A look at my latest 00 Gauge micro layout, "Basin Road" constructed inside an A4 Box File!
The layout is constructed from a Scalescenes downloadable card kit, which has been specially designed to fit the contours of a standard box file. All the structures have been designed so the entire layout can be safely ‘flat-packed’ back into the box file for easy storage after use! The layout has plenty of modelling and operation protentional, with a few detail enhancements and the addition of a BLOCKsignalling Shuttle System, perfect my small locomotives such as the Hornby Ruston and recent industrial builds.
The full build features in the November 2020 issue of Railway Modeller (on sale 8th October), where I give a step-by-step guide on how to assemble and detail your layout. Be sure to grab your copy!

It’s also a good layout to practice things like weathering as if you go wrong just re reprint and retry.
Cold I ass a boat to the layout ?
Also I know it’s not done but Im my eyes could you not run a longer train that is longer than t layout. Give effect what your seeing is a snippet of an industrial scene. The fiddle yard end could be road bridge and other end could be entering a building to drop off the products. if you remove the doors it could be a building built above the railway and that building is not its intended destination. This means could have diff types a wagons and tankers passing with diff companies locos or liveried stock.
Maybe even have a passenger coach like the rowntrees confectioners had with there workers hault.
Would the points be box controlled or be controlled as the point it’s self?
I don’t buy magazines any more (trying to save money) Dose the magazine artical discuss locos and stock that’s available and other add ons as if so will buy. If not could you discuss what locos stock to use?

Matthew Stamp, the LY02 Canal Wharf Kit comes with the template for a really nice open barge that you could build up and have your scene showing it being loaded/unloaded etc. You can also buy the matching T018 Narrowboat and Lock kit to make a real canal-side scene. The link to the Scalescenes site is in the author's comment at the bottom of the video or you can go to see the Narrowboat & Lock kit at Scalescenes in the Town section. Good luck with your building.
PS: I am now building this Canal Wharf in N Scale (1:148) to fit across a T-TRAK Double module (620mm x 400mm). I will be adding other buildings to 'stretch' the scene to fit the extended width. My other modules will continue the Canal theme running across the front of them so that it suggests a part of the UK Canal Network.
