- Welcome to the sixth installment on Fry's Somerdale, my latest 00 Gauge Micro Layout project.
Over the past few days I've been focusing on improving the look and strength of the layout. The ScaleModelScenery baseboards have been reinforced with the addition of two L Shaped Batten to the undersides of the boards, this has made the layout a lot easier and safer move.
In addition to the baseboard improvements the layout has officially gain it's identity, with the application of some custom vinyls.
During a recent outing to Keynsham Station, I also took the opportunity to visit site of the real crossing. This gave for an excellent opportunity to compare the model to the real location, with some impressive results!
Finally I've been working on a number of articles for Railway Modeller, which will take a closer look at both the layout and the history of the Somerdale site, as well as some of the modelling techniques I've used during construction.

The thing i like about your layout is that you were able to pack in a lot of detail into what is such a small area but it is not over done which is what i like about it great job.

Callum, that looks great with the period vehicles. The layout really captures the essence of the period.

I used to work at Somerville in the early 1980s. Although the internal rail network and the connection to BR were out of use by then most if not all the track work was still in stitu and at the back of the site, near K block (I think) there were still three or four covered van, still with the 'Cadburys chocolate return to Keynsham, Bristol WR' (or summit like that) painted on em, that were used as stores by the factory maintenance people
Anyway looking good ate, certainly captured the spirit of the place

@@SDJR7F88 There is a book about the site in Bristol central Library, and there are some pics in there including one of the vans, cant remember the title or author though

The improvements are subtle and strengthening. The short look in to what the area looks like now is amazing. That Class 08 is superb. Always enjoy seeing your work.

The Presentation Box looks very impressive now painted and with the new graphics. Also its was nice that you could visit the actual site and it looks very much like the rel thing. Brilliant job Callum...........Cheers Kev

Many thanks indeed! Yes, that's the plan. Going to try and get a few period vehicles to change up for the road scenes too. Might even try to depicte the site during WW2, as it has a curshal part to play

A great little layout. Just an idea but as it is a small layout with only a few loco's and wagons how about using 3 link couplings on your stock. It would be more realistic than the large couplings.
