Driving is easy just see it as riding a bike the more you do it the better you become as I was crap when I passed but I'm better now but paradoxically i don't think I would pass due to bad habits I've gained and I'm 19 so I'm a young driver.

Sometimes they do it to make you feel more at ease, I’d rather have a driving instructor that talks and makes you want to enjoy your driving lesson. I think driving lessons can be so boring, so having someone that’ll talk to you is a great way to pass the time 👍

Swrve™ it not really a pain. My husband learned to drive in Birmingham, ok, it’s not London. But he’s a confident city driver. I learned to drive in a rural market town in Lincolnshire, I’m much less confident in the city, even after almost 30 years of driving.
I wish I had learned to drive somewhere bigger, busier and bustling, rather than in a quiet town (which only had one mini roundabout in the entire town when I learned to drive. Of course it has lots of roundabouts now)

I remember just how difficult it felt when I first started driving (20 odd years ago). It seems you are doing something with your hands, feet and eyes all the time. I felt quite overwhelmed at the prospect of ever being a competent driver knowing I’d have to do everything and do it alone. As well as reading signs, watching other cars, being aware of cycles and pedestrians.
Unbelievably it does eventually become second nature to depress a pedal, change gear and check your mirrors but I’m always very respectful of learner drivers.
It’s a shame people forget that feeling when they pass their test and think it’s acceptable to toot their horn to a driver who is looking for a road name or gets in the wrong lane etc.

I wish I could like this more than once! It's so true, I passed September of last year and, even then, I remember freaking out at the thought of driving on my own! Driving in general was pretty scary for me, as a learner and as a new driver. I'm definitely a little more used to it now. I agree, people should have more compassion on the learners as we have all been in their shoes once.

Left shoulder, left mirror, center mirror, right mirror, right shoulder as they look for it on the test. But as if come home my new driving instructor says it's impractical as by time you've done all those checks, you miss the opportunity to pull out and all you need to check is centre mirror, right mirror and right shoulder. No wonder people struggle to pass when instructors can't agree.

You provided very good routes where the learner can experience a wide range of driving skills. I finally got my Drivers License last year on 9 June 2021. Thank God that is over and done with. I passed on a Manual/Stick car, but ever since driving Automatic. It is so much easier, although you don't feel as much in control of the car as is the case with a car with a manual gearbox.

      @DriveLondon  Před 5 lety +165

Hi Yes you will get a serious fault if you keep occurring the same fault multiple times. Usually this is when the mistakes is done more than 5 times. So same minor mistake 4 times will stay as 4 minors and same minor mistake done 5 times will become a serious.
Also you need to consider the fault. This left blind spot check is not essential when moving off from the left and sometimes is not marked down as a mistake in the test, but as a safer driver an all round check is better then only checking the right. So like I said at the end of the test, somethings I have marked down are a little harsh but it's to get you the best result and make you a safer driver.
Also sometimes examiners may have given 2 minors for the same fault but on the third same fault it may have been a serious fault. e.g:
1st fault - didn't check mirrors before moving but nothing there - MINOR FAULT
2nd fault - didn't check mirrors before moving but nothing there - MINOR FAULT
3rd fault - didn't check mirrors before moving but cyclist there - SERIOUS FAULT because there was a cyclist

It was so hard for me too. I went through 4 instructors and they all weren’t for me. One even disappeared on me (didn’t turn up to a lesson and blocked my number for no reason) I wanted to give up and then I bought my own car and learnt with family and friends. Best decision I ever made and saved a bunch of money too. My last instructor wanted to charge me £130 a week for 5 hrs of lessons and then £130 again on top to use car and then he would change dates half way through week to put another £130 in his pockets. I paid him twice, he was rubbish and I politely told him I didn’t want him anymore he was a massive scam. You have to beware. Best to ask people you can trust. X x

    • @jakeyplayz989

My first was a pervert too kept asking me out to pub after our lessons, my second shouted at me so much, really nasty guy, so as I had had such bad experience I decided to ask for lady instructor and she got flaky every week and then didn’t turn up to lesson one day and blocked my number (luckily I never pay in advance, but then that might have been part of the problem I don’t know) then fourth was this last rubbish one that was trying to take too much money from me unnecessarily and then when I had to cancel a lesson because I had gone over on my ankle, he sent me a very rude message complaining about me affecting his income 🙄 and I should pay him in advance directly into bank account from now on. I told him where to go 😂😂

    1) Why should you check the left mirror when turning right? The back of the car is moving on a smaller radius, so you can't hit anybody.
    2) Why should you check anything before indicating? It's an intention, but not an action. It's good to show your intentions early. Others can decide whether to let you start your maneuver or not.
