I`m 62 and been a runner for 47 years. You give great advice on here even for experienced runners. I`d add one more "tip." Enjoy your running and train to live, not live to train. Forget times, calories, how much good it does you and as often as possible just enjoy moving. Get to a beach and run calf deep in the surf where sky meets shore, even better still do it when its raining and just enjoy the moment and being young, fit and alive.
Totally agree
Power to you! đ
This was so inspiring
Man Iâd love to right now but I live in one of the coldest places in Canada and itâs the middle of winter right now....I have to wait a couple months
Thats the best tip
Honestly, you're such an informative CZcamsr. I feel so inspired and enlightened when I finish one of your videos.
Aubrey Jane couldnât agree more, I really aspire to be like Natasha!
Same! It's not like a corny or jealous inspiration either lol
Honestly, same!
Aubrey Jane same, thatâs why I try to watch in the mornings, so I can use the motivation. Whereas, before I used to watch late at night and by the time it was morning I found myself not being able to go for a workout đ€Šđœââïžđ
Righttt?? I js discovered her two days ago and I love her
I usually canât make it 1/2 a mile before I have to gasp for air and plan my funeral but I tried these techniques and let me tell you I was straight COASTING for 6 miles!! I always thought I was an out of shape asthmatic but it turns out I was just an out of shape asthmatic with bad form.
Thanks so much Natacha you are a gift! â„ïžđđ»
đ±
That gives me hope!
Wtf that sounds impossible
wait woah 1/2 mile to 6 miles just like that? or was this a slow build up⊠needless to say in inspired!
@@ninamertens2696 oh it was definitely slow. Took me about a year to get to where I was running 6 miles. But I noticed an immediate change in my breathing and energy expenditure when I changed up my form.
Me: *running normally*
Natacha: "how to run"
Me: *questions everything I know about running*
Yep!
Well, this was certainly surprisingly informative, for sure: the specific areas (and reasons) for stretching are my favourite take away points which i'll be looking for more good ideas on, on this channel for a start.
Thanks for the effort, and enthusiasm, too.
i like you
ha ha ha. Yeah... but in a good way.
In the beginning, after watching a few videos on running form (not just Natacha's)... I thought.... wow... "Are these people crazy?"... and "How have I managed all these years?" Good tips from Natacha in this video though, and you pick up a few other tips here and there (from other sources). One of the things I've always done on some of my longer 10 to 21km (6 to 13 miles) runs is focus on that breathing in-time with my steps (I think mine was more like 2 out, 2 in). It also gets you to focus on your breathing - with an aim to try and slow it down, and take deeper breaths. I have tried to also run with my chin more level to the ground - to open the airway - that makes sense.
I've always hated running, but this video makes me wonder if I should give it another go because maybe it's because my form is just terrible haha. Thanks Natacha!
Hey Jaimie! Itâs always worth trying to work on form because running can be really enjoyable (: if you still donât like after that then thatâs ok, at least you tried! Xxx
I used to hate running when I was in high school. But somehow after I graduated, I started doing interval training and that made me fall in love with running! You should try that. There are many apps for that, 0 to 5k.
I used to hate running because I would always push way too hard and get so exhausted so fast!! Easing into it and working on building up my breathing and form helped me a lot. :) good luck!
Honestly same
Gin Vlogs Do you recommend any apps for that?
Long distance running is "the" most relaxing, soothing, stress free thing u cld do, the euphoria u get from it is priceless...I love these tips though thk u
I remember my first time getting a runner's high. I felt like I could go forever.
@@skateata1 exactly, now I just gotta find the motivation to get back into it...2020 I've totally slacked off
For me it was always stressful and was one of the main reasons I hated running.. I was always so focused on a time and it got to the point where I had performance anxiety everytime I ran.
@@karenalabi2547 oh I totally get that

The thing which really helped my running (especially mid/long distance) was understanding my mentality. 1. So firstly, remember that it will always get easier ... and then harder... and then easier ... and then harder - your mental and physical state fluctuates so don't give up when it gets hard as it will always get easier again! 2. Secondly, I found that once I'd broken the 'sweat-barrier' I found it much easier to keep going. But getting to that point (which may be a couple of miles into the run) I find really really hard; the first (miles) are the worst!
couple miles into a run? If it's 75 and sunny, I'll be sweating before I get to the start of a run.
Get up earlier đ

I'm a little freaked out right now. I want to take up running again and this timing could not be more perfect.

Update : a year later, November 2020. Starting at the beginning of the year, running a full minute was a struggle as I hadn't ran since high school cross country (like 5 years ago). Today I ran for 42 minutes non-stop
Haha omg so many people have told me that I read their minds on this video! Lots of love đ

@@rrai- I used a lot of CZcams videos and running articles on form. Then consciously focused on the tips everytime even if I was running intervals. So as to not start with a bad habit.
Sprinting: donât be tensed, look straight ahead with shoulders down, elbows at 90 degrees, knees high and parallel to the body, land on tip of feet
Mid Distance: stay relaxed, donât pump arms, knees not as high, land on tip of feet to middle of feet, donât exhaust yourself at beginning, focus on technique
Thank you!!
Thank you so much
i remember the first time i watched this video. i memorized all of the techniques, and the next day when i went to the gym, i ran 45 minutes NON-STOP around the track. prior to that day, i was only able to run for about 5 minutes at a time before i needed to take a break. so in conclusion, THIS VIDEO IS THE TRUTH!!

I implemented your tips in my run yesterday and the improvement was CRAZY!! I was able to run 3km with only a 30 second walk break! The distance doesn't seem like a lot, but before watching his video I was struggling to run 2km without having to walk half of it. It's crazy how much I was working against myself without realizing it, and my sprint at the end felt like I was running on a cloud! You have completely changed how I run, THANK YOU SO MUCH

My training has completely changed since I started watching your videos. I used to be a dancer, and I did track, but over time I lost sense of what my body was capable of. I have weight trained for two years, but Iâve since implemented the more athletic aspects of your training into my weight training (including running again), and Iâm shocked at what my body can do. I am also seeing my body change rapidly (much faster than the two years it took to see drastic change from weight training). So thank you! I feel like Iâm finding my heart in being active again.

I love Your personality, so warm and caring, i don't really follow fitness people but You have made me get my stuff together a bit more so i started to go to gym and in 3 and 5 weeks I'm doing 10km runs and right now my goal is to to get them both under 60 minutes so this video was perfectly timed for me.
I didn't know how much I needed this! I love these informational videos from you, Natacha and how much I actually learn from them. You are so good at explaining and feel so enlightened afterwards. I love you girl and everything you do! I support you all the way. Hope you are doing well â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâš
I used your technique for uphill running yesterday in a 5K race with many long steep hills on the course, and I felt so much lighter! Particularly the footstrike, but also using arms while staying relaxed. I passed quite a few people who were nearly hyperventalating and I felt in control of my pace, and even joyful! Thank you for the tips!
The best part about your videos is that I always get to learn new things and it gets me so excited and motivated. As a xc runner, this video was SO INCREDIBLY HELPFUL. Thank you so much for all your expert tips; Iâve applied them to my running and have already seen improvements! Definitely one of my all time favorite videos of yours!!
One tip to help with breathing on long distances is to chew gum while running. It has a natural way of informing you of how your pacing and breathing is. If you can't breathe you're running too fast for a long distance and should slow down and also if you are like me, chewing forces me to breathe in a rhythmic manner as well. Hope this helps!
How the heck do you not choke, though? I swear I would accidentally breathe through my mouth and it would be the end of me.
I used to do this. I also learned how to breathe by swimming laps, when you're forced to control your breathing.
Yes I chew gum while working out. Helps to keep my mouth from getting dry too.
This is such an odd idea!? I don't think I'll be trying it, but interesting to know that it exists!
Iâm surprised and glad this tip works for so many! If I chew gum while running/sprinting, I easily get frustrated, I feel like Iâm not focusing properly and I should be relaxed not causing tension on my jaw. Even when I forget Iâm chewing gum and start running, I immediately need to throw it out
omg, i know this is a later video, but I just watched it yesterday, and today decided to try this out.... WOW, my outlook on running has completely changed!!!! THANK YOU

Excellent information! I've run every distance from the 100 meters to 35 miles. I never had a good coach so I learned on the job, lol I may disagree with you, if I heard it right, about heel to toe for long distance. I was naturally a mid-foot striker. Heel strikers get plantar fasciitis. Be warned. I agree with you about downhill being the most risky part of racing. My best running achievement? Well over 100,000 miles so far.
