  • The fourth part of the voting for the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest, presented by Pat Kenny & Michelle Roca in Dublin, Ireland.
After stealing the lead from Switzerland, the UK seems to edge closer and closer to the victory, with top marks from Belgium and Italy giving them a 15-point lead just a little before the end. However, last-minute votes from France and - especially - Portugal will once again throw the field wide open, leaving Yugoslavia to sort out the mess...

This is so trolly, but I'm only commenting this, because this is viewing number 18,000 of this video. However, I still remember this evening, even though I was not quite 6 years old back then. :)

Why did Italy vote in French?

    • @georgedc1981
      @georgedc1981 Před 4 lety +1

They gave their votes in French many times in the old days of eurovision. Sometimes in English but mostly in French. In these years the French language had a main part in the eurovision songcontest. Unfortenately these days are gone

I was a 10 year old German and French speaking Swiss boy watching this almost shitting myself and also wondering: why can't she say points correctly in French??

    • @IDontWantThisStupidHandle
      @IDontWantThisStupidHandle Před 3 lety

Both anglophone hosts pronounce "points" exactly the same way the parisienne jury announcer did. It's an acceptable Parisian pronunciation of the word "points" -- and this is coming from a Canadian fluent in French and English.

@@IDontWantThisStupidHandle sorry love, but no 😃.
      A. Both hosts do NOT pronounce it the same way, and her pronunciation is not ‘Parisian’. His pronunciation is perfectly fine btw.
There is no glottal ‘r’ between the p and the o in the pronunciation of the word point.
Believe me, French is my second native language 😉.

    Vous ne pouvez pas savoir
À quel point on est seul
    Debout dans la lumière.
    Vous ne pouvez pas savoir
À quel point on a peur
À quel point où on espère.
    You don't know
    How lonely we are
    Standing in the light.
You don' know how scared we are.
    To what extend we hope.
Then on your side the emotion has risen
And that we have the right to expect.
    A Chorus, so familiar
    A song well deserved
That we are hearing from your hands.
You can not know how lonely we are
    When the curtain is rising.
Hanging on the hope to reach the height
    Where your dreams are nestled.
You should see us, after the premieres,
Browse the newspapers.( NOT That Much)
    Eager to know
    If we become hero
Or if we have to Start It over.
    Céline Dion;
It's not easy to face the black hole
    Thank you for being there
When, with a heart trembling with hope,
    I sang the first time.
Telling me that I had talent for
    Thank you for the applause
And for giving me wings, almost
    Thank you for the encore.
You dont know how much we feel lonely
    On a foreighner stage
    Through sunny or rainy day
    We go around the world
    like strolling players
