- Trust me, you need to WATCH this entire video. This elderly homeowner was literally scammed by the installing HVAC contractor. Not only did we document this complete rip off, we found what distributor the equipment came from and which HVAC contractor purchased the equipment.

I fixed a job like that once for free. Went to this guy's home and he was in his mid 40's. His home was packed with crap and he had this shrine thing made up. I asked about it turned out he was in a car accident and his wife and two kids died so he became a recluse. After I got things fixed I just left and didn't say a word to him. That one hit me hard.

God bless you for that act of kindness. I too have made repairs to systems over the past 42 year's and said my goodbyes, wished the customer well and left. The tears of gratitude was enough payment for me. Great job Mikey for exposing this company for the hack's they are. They deserve all the negative publicity for being unethical, unprofessional and just LAZY!

You know they're a hack when the address of the company leads to a house with window units in every window with a shady looking, dented, unmarked white van in front of the house. Those window units tells you he can't even get his own system working right

@@PipeDoctor One more note, those Chrysler tags have a couple of bending tabs on the backside that hold them on. I have one off the original 1970s air handler from my house that's still sitting in the attic because it was too big for the cubby hole
The 💩💩💩us tradesmen have to deal with, I’m a plumber and I’ve seen lots of ways people live and how ignorant people can be with owning a home. I’ve called out a couple of oil boiler service companies, when they send out a young kid who won’t fix or report problems from installs their company did.
I don’t understand how someone could live like this. I would be pissed as an installer going into an attic like that.

Would be nice to know if she has any relatives around , there are some good people out there that can come in and make the house more manageable for her. You can tell she is not in her right mind and could use some help and hopefully its a family member, friend or some one out there knows how to help her.
Maybe Mikey Pipes can pass the word around and get this poor soul some help. The house is a fire hazard with all the trash that's in the attic and in every room. This poor lady needs help. Mikey Pipes and his young helpers could spend some off time, a few hours a week, and do some much needed cleaning as well as go to his synagogue for possible financial handouts. Christian churches in the area should be more than willing to help this elderly lady who is, evidently, fighting life's wars on her on. Please help.
Going off the Inside of that house looks like she’s not able to do much cleaning wise. And the workers took advantage of here leaving their garbage everywhere

Damn, that was nuts. You probably do need to replace it all especially if the refrigerant was contaminated from using the old lineset with R410A. Hate to see that nice old lady get screwed.

I don't get it. We have done this a few times. We did it like two weeks ago. The air handler could not be removed, without damaging really nice trim on million dollar home. So we just flushed the lines, and installed new coil and condenser. Home owner was fine with it. It works fine.
Oldest unit I ever saw as an Airtemp Chrysler. Back in the day when they put the compressors in the air handler. R12. 1950's
I agree with many people on this thread.. start a Mikey Pipes donation fund and use the money to "help" those who are really in need. Prime example where some donations could go a long way.
This is gonna sound awful but she probably has more money than all of us. Not saying that in a bad way. Bought the house in ‘69 for probably 19k. Long paid off and it’s probably worth 600k or more. She should take that equity and have a full time caretaker move in, or move to an assisted living facility. What a shame.

Fresh out of trade school and I never did a job that horrible. When someone watches a few you tube videos and thinks they're an HVAC tech. I watched a video on heart transplants so now I'm a doctor 🤦♂️

I went to to do a change out,coil,line set and condenser.went inside the basement and seen the old coil was inside the duct.figured it was a uncased coil.the idiots cut a hole in the duct and took the cased coil and slide the whole thing in there and made a piece of sheet metal door and a lot of tape.what was even worst they didn’t block off the opening around the case coil and not all the air was even going through it. Sad days we are living in.

@@PipeDoctor I wish you could see the hack-job on my packaged roof top unit in AZ. both the return air and the inside air go through a 16x16 opening when the inside return air vent is 24x15 so no compute how the F they put the return and and cold air in a 16x16 area when the unit has a 24x16 out the side of the unit reduced into the 16x16 lol I have some one coming out next thursday to show me all about it. the reason mine was done was due to cost to do right, it was double the cost to do it. the old home owner went with someone at circle K well it was not done right and my power bill is 480 dollar in the summer due to these morons and it was installed in 2019...
@@PipeDoctor I don't understand what the issue is, if the blower will cycle the same amount of air. We have done this multiple times, and it works fine. Replacing only the inside coil and condenser is a standard procedure. Using old linesets that do not leak, after flushing and purging with nitrogen is also a standard procedure.
The part where condenser was not giving plenty of clearance is something I see wrong though. The work we have done was for a company that has been in business for 30+ years.
@@PipeDoctor I am. What the he'll am I supposed to do? It's what the boss wants to do, and the home owner is fine with it. As an employee I just go along with ot. I doubt you have been in business for 40+ years the way this other company was. He does the same thing on occasion. What exactly is the issue if the heating element works, the control.boards work, and the blower works? Plus, from what I understand, they do make it cheaper when they do that.
What a sad excuse of an installation. Just can’t make this stuff up, and Mike the savior is helping to expose the scum bags one at a time. That poor senior citizen needs some help too. I pray she has someone to watch over her.

I’m a Master HVAC license holder and owner/operator. I watched this and damn...I see red. Looked up the company. Apparently they are now out of network on Homeadvisor/Angie’s list. This is not us. We do right by the elderly, disabled and destitute. These installers should be put in stocks in the town square and have rotten fruits thrown at them. You’re a peer I’m proud to be a tradesman with Pipes.
DIX HILLS AIR CONDITIONING is a scammer too ! My family who lives there - they ripped off my aunt ! She asked them to come to fix a leak on an R-22 system a couple years ago. They arrived and did NO leak detection whatsoever and said to her "it can't be fixed and you need to replace the whole system". They did nothing, no sniffers, no dye test, no troubleshooting at all. All the guy did was look at the evaporator coil from the hole in the closet with his flashlight. Did not even go to the unit. Then they had the nerve to STILL charge her $150.00 for the service call !!!! RIP OFF !!! Stay away from Dix Hills Air Conditioning ! NOT the original owners anymore !

Couldn't the guy have ordered it and either never picked it up and Johnstone sold to someone else looking for something "that they could make work for cheap", or realized he didn't need it and sold it to another installer? If you are going to call someone out like this you best be sure they are guilty. As your viewership grows, you need to realize the impact your videos have, right or wrong. Not defending the guy, if he's guilty then let the flame begin. But if he's not and you are incorrectly tearing down a fellow small business owner, not cool...Just like the unit that was installed.
No . Hackers like that should be pointed out. With out EPA certificate you can not buy anything in supply. If someone bought it in your name find him and make him pay. When my bis tells me to do hack job I rather quit.

By that # you can easily find everything about product. From mfg to last customer that pay for it. That's how they found him. I can give you supplier and you can ask about me. Just checked them out. 1 star now and owner is claiming it wasn’t his company. That someone used their name and paid cash upon pick up. Ya, our supplier won’t be taking cash from a “tech” if it was ordered under the business. That makes 0 sense to me. Either it’s on a P.O. Or the cash is being done through a private sale and they’re still checking for proper licensing
You'd at least remove your company details from the box.

This customer understandably probably may not have wanted to spend the extra money to put in a brand new air handler.
25-30% of the cooling problem was probably the garbage blocking the condenser coils thus not allowing full heat exchange to occur. Other than that, low on R410A.
Besides that garbage, 3rd issue is not replacing the lineset since the old system used R22 and the oils sitting in the lineset mixing with R410A oils is not a good thing for overall life of the compressor. No way to know if they flushed those line properly before reusing.
That poor lady needs much needed help.

If that happened with my company I'd make it right as well, even if we have to eat the whole bill. We have to charge for our services but there's one cardinal rule, for dealing with our employees and our customers....

@@PipeDoctor That is a point. However she was willing to pay for the troubleshooting and to charge $150 for no service is not good business. Varsity only charges $89.00 for a service call. My uncle has hundreds of pounds of R-22 so filling is not a problem. R410-A operates at higher pressures reducing service life. R-22 and R-12 is the best and most efficient. There is no "ozone" depletion. That is a factual lie created by government and big corp. Both refrigerants are inert. But thank you for being an honest service tech.
