The problem is that we don't trust each other enough to appologize what we both did to each other.
If Turks appologize first then Greeks start to bash Turkey more and will never appologize because they will always play the victim card against Turkey.
If Greeks appologize first it will be the same.
So this never ending cycle of hate will go on many many generations.
We can break this cycle by only group meetings as individuals and talking about these matters and declare our regrets and appologize on individual level.
Maybe 60-70 years later this will change the whole politics

If you want unification, but you're unable to get it, of course, help came from Greece in the form of a Junta that was much more capable of taking drastic actions to make it happen. We conquered Amasra from Genevese Trabzon from Pontus? Greeks suffered much more from Christians like Venetians. We did not assimilate them. They just exaggereate. In Armenian case I accept a tragedy happened but Turks did suffer too. And while fighting with russians in east and many other countries why would we spend time or resource for that. It does not make sense. Anyway, All these rebels of Greeks just helped both to loose the control of oil areas which used to belong to the Ottoman. West divided us. Many commanders in Ottoman Croatian, Albanian, Greek.. Pashas were advisor of the sultan. And probably Greeks would have already been invaded by Germans many years before.

Surely, British influence helped divide the people of Cyprus, however they are not a good enough scapegoat. Also why are you acting as if Ottoman Greece was something good for the people? They were conquered, occupied. There's no need for influence to demand your freedom. There can be inspiration(France) but that's a good thing. Areas used to "belong" to Ottomans after they conquered them. But history didn't start in 1453. Nor was oil of that importance in 1821. But yeah, putting blame on the west for the atrocities and war crimes committed during all of these wars is simply wrong. Maybe Turkey was pushed into invading Cyprus(weak argument either way, considering the invaded the land for a second time), however nobody forced them to occupy half the island for 44 years.

As a so called turk i have to admit that the majority of those in Turkey are not really turkish. According to current research the people of turkey are more european (greek/slav) than middle eastern (arab/persian) and more middle-eastern than turkish (e.g. kazakh, uzbek etc).
It seems like when the true turks entered anatolia they had children with the people there, and it also seems like the greeks in turkey slowly lost their greek heritage and became 'turks' in culture. Hence why turks and greeks look similair.
The reality is that we have all been mixed here and there, and the purity of our races rarely exists.

The Red Viper u think that you know a thing but you know nothing about Ataturk. From 1912 to 1919 it was all Ottoman government who made massacres but those were made to suppress rebellions. So they were necessary for future of Turkish people. Especially Armenian massacres by Enver pasha. If he wouldn't do that, Armenian gangs would destroy all Muslim villages in the eastern Anatolia like they started to do in early 20th century.
You talk about Ataturk like he is a brutal commander. I don't even want to explain a thing like that. This is just a comment to simply attack Turks with no real evidence.
He was a great leader with winning all his active battles that he commanded in Libya, Turkey and Middle East. He was the first leader who did a lot of revolutions about every aspect of well functioning democratic republic with achieving success to make a modern Muslim State.
It is true that he was a hardcore nationalist but he was not a bloodthirsty bitch killing innocent people. From 1919 to 1922 it was Turkish independence war led by him and his friends. Armenians and Greeks were occupying new towns everywhere at that moment.
Armenian so called army was easily defeated by Kazim Pasha with an ambush. They already burned a lot of Turkish villages in order to establish their own miserable little state. So it is normal that new nationalist army may wanted to take further revenge with showing no mercy to suspected Armenians.
At the other hand there were very heavy clashes between Greeks and Turks in the west. At the end, Turks won even though Greek army had more numbers, more guns, more artillery pieces and trucks. After their defeat they started a cowardly run back to the Aegean Sea from Ankara where last battles took place. On the way, they burned all Turkish villages and killed/raped Turkish people. This was scorched earth policy in most brutal way ever. Turkish soldiers saw their villages razed and destroyed by Greeks. Turks turned mad.they killed a lot of Greek that they could find too. At the and this is the story.
Ataturk is that much honourable and peaceful person that he said "those children who died next to our children for a stupid cause is now our children too. They may rest in peace that this soil which they are buried in is their soil" for ANZAC soldiers who died in Gallipoli. Even though inflicting a lot of damage to Turkish society...
Another one that l remember is that he said "war is a crime if it is not declared to protect peace of Turkish people"
You can learn a lot about Ataturk from his own book called 'Nutuk'. He wrote it just after Turkish war of independence from foreign invasions.
Eye for eye, teeth for a teeth. Real history hurts isn't it my Turkish hater friend.

    • @kibrisliboy2013
      @kibrisliboy2013 Před 7 lety

The Red Viper Turkish independence war is called like that because Ottoman government became dependent on allied powers after loosing the war just like Germany in 1918. Last Sultan became coward traitor and did whatever enemies told him to do.
That's why it is called independence war.
Ataturk didnt have any bad habits. He didn't kill people for joy. These killings happens in wars even though orders are against it.
l know what to believe and not in my country's politics. l don't need advice of a person who says: Ataturk did massacres.
Well you say Greeks wanted freedom, Armenians wanted freedom. They would be dominated in a second in Europe between all those blood sucking Imperialist empires if it wasn't Ottomans.
In fact they were in far better situation in Ottoman Empire than other European empires. They had religious freedom which no other Empire gave to its people. There were hordes of Jewish people migrating to Ottoman from Europe especially Spain.
Armenians were most loyal and friendly Christian people to Ottoman government until Russian propaganda started to use them in their own affairs in 1850s.
Ottoman Empire was not a one nation Empire. They were multicultural and wanted to stay like that. They always refused to say that they are Turkish even though they knew that they were Turkish. For example it was an insult to say that Sultan was a Turk.
A lot of Greeks and Armenians proudly served in highest military ranks in Ottoman army.
So everything was cool until foreign powers started to fund these small nations. Do you really think that these people wanted to become independent with their own will out of no reason or they did it as a result of foreign affairs.
Look at Greek national heroes, some of them are not even Greek! A fuckin Englishman!

1)I keep reading comments from Turks about enosis and enosis.....just call it union, this is what it means. And what was this demand for union? I think it was, at least, rightful and just. Because, when a region demands by more than 80% ....for God sake this is the 80% of the population....union with Greece, no one could or should have said to these people no.No one, end of story. Only undemocratic and uncivilised excuses for human beings could have come forward and say, "you know, fuck what the 80% says". Today, countries choose their future course based on 51% of majority in referendums. 2)if GC wanted TC dead, they could have done this in a week back in the 60s. I searched most independent analysis of the events for 63 and 67 and the people who were killed from paramilitary groups, from both sides, were around 500 for each side. Actually, TCs had much more riffles flowing directly from Turkey's coast even before 1963. The image Turks formed in their heads of GC swaying guns and marching against TCs is as ludicrous as Turkish historiography can be. Spread intercommunal violences was confined and only in 63 and 67. But of course Turkish policy since the 50s was either annexation or division of the islands. The pretext of protecting TCs is way far from being believable and even Turk diplomats do not adhere to this position in personal meeting as this explanation is just for the sciolist masses of simple Turks. Turkey's obligation, as a guarantor power, was to restore and protect RoC. The barbaric invasion and division of the islands was condemned by a number of UN resolutions and international courts anyway. Turkey has no respect for any aspect of the international law and that is a fact beyond doubt. If Greeks and GCs trust Turkey again, then they will only have to blame themselves for the grave consequences that will definitely land on their heads. I mean, have a look at the Republic of Cyprus' neighboring policies, foreign relations and collaborations with islamic and christian countries then check on Tukey's. Hand on heart now, who is the troublemaker and who would you trust? TCs made the foul mistake of delivering themselves and their distinct identity to Turkey and are now assimilated by settlers while GCs maintain freedom, enforce their identity and flourish as the independent Cypriots. Only the passports of the Republic of Cyprus, which most of the TCs applied for and have in their hands, are there to reminisce their Cypriot past. Passports of the Republic they supposedly denounced in favour of their pseudostate which nobody recognises. The irony.

To understand and solve life's mysteries and contribute in all areas of humanity. Whiles other cultures have demonstrated through their own history to prioritize the need to destroy, be the aggressor and conquer neighboring societies. What are these sorts of aggressive cultures good for? Should they be negotiated with or dealt with the same as everyone else? Humanity is far from perfect, but some humans have learned to be much worse than others. I'll let you decide who's who.

If by Turkish side you mean those who make policy decisions and enforce them, clearly no.
If by Greek side you mean those who make policy decisions and enforce them, clearly no.
My sovereignty over this land was handed over to a private company without my express consent.
I say "my" meaning the collective. "Both communities" does not register in my mental compass.
The rightful owner is so by birthright and according to nationality, not citizenship.
Nationality does not see language, religion or whatever other devisive factors.
The Treaty of Establishment, 1959. the 1st coup.
The Constitution of the Cyprus Republic was never taken to task by referendum. The 2nd coup.
Turkish insurrection by orchestration of those who make policy decisions, 1963-64. The 3rd coup.
Orchestration and implementation of the overthrow of Makarios by the Greek Junta, 1974. The 4th coup.
All 4 situations hoisted on the majority of the disempowered owners of this land. All 4 situations aided and abetted by those who make policy decisions and enforce them just to further their stronghold on this island. Namely, Britain and their lackeys in the U.S.A.
I repeat. The Constitution of Cyprus had a specific clause. Implementation after a referendum. This is natural law. It never happened. And don't go looking for the Constitution online. This clause has been purposefully ommited.
No matter. I don't see coup d' etats against any government. THE GOVERNMENT is the coup d'etat against the people. Cyprus is not the exception, it is the rule worldwide.

I'm with the old man who questions what the Turkish leaders have ever done for the world, and that would include for the Turkish people themselves. The question should not be whether the Turks or Turkish can be trusted, but whether Erdogan and previous leadership indicate reliability to defend the People's rights, and Erdogan's people have cried from the prisons an emphatic 'no'. Could the Turkish leadership during Hitler's reign be trusted? If you were a Turkish citizen, perhaps, but not if you were a Bosnian, Croatian, or Macedonian Christian or Jew. This then poses the question: is one enlightened Turkish despot superior to a religious nationalist Turkish despot? Yes, if he is not Islamist, for pluralist Islamists can only support their own countrymen who are not Muslims, not their neighbours'. Let's now ask Armenia that question...
