Turkey then came to their rescue and established ground reality on the Island and a safe space for the Turkish Cypriots.

1963 was not a mass*cre, that was a literal civil war because Turk Cypriots refused to changed the constitution that was imposed by the British imperialists on Cyprus which gave the 18% minoriry 50% of the government power and VETO just because of their religion. The Kurds in Turkey that are an actual 18% ethnic minority don't have such extra privilages. M*slim Cypriots were just Cypriots with different religious beliefs.
Turk Cypriots also supported the British occ*piers during British occ*pation. They betrayed their own people for power. Don't believe Turkish propaganda.

Below are some historical facts which they don't tell you.
Denktash explained that two Turkish Cypriots put the bomb in order to blame the Greek Cypriots.
The late Turkish Gen. Sabri Yirmibesoglu also admitted that Turks burned mosques to increase animosity toward Greeks in Cyprus.
Kutlu Adalı was a Turkish Cypriot journalist, poet and socio-political researcher, and peace advocate. On July 6, 1996, he was fatally machine-gunned, outside his home before the roadblocks were opened.
Both communities were victims of the extremists within their own communities as well as those of the other side. Many Greeks were forced to denounce their membership of AKEL and other organizations that were striving for peaceful relations between the two communities.
To remind you that not a single G/C or T/C was involved in the pogrom in
As a young trade unionist, I took part in strikes and demonstrations against the innocent killings of Greek and Turkish Cypriots by their own communities.
Istanbul on the 5 and 7 of September in 1955. The riots were started by the false claim that the house where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was born had been bombed the day before. A bomb planted by a Turkish usher at the consulate in Thessaloniki, who was later arrested and confessed, incited the events.
How do you achieve partition when the two communities work and live together peacefully in small communities? You need terrorism, strife, mistrust to make people feel unsafe.
In 1958 in a show of unity and to express their will to live together Greek and Turkish Cypriots celebrated May Day together. In addition to the traditional banners, some were also carrying Greek and Turkish flags. However, this could not be accepted by the Turkish extremists It was against their plans. They needed strife, discord, and conflict rather than co-operation.That May Day night the Turkish progressive sport and educational association in Nicosia was set on fire and its members were accused of selling out to the Greeks.
The first attempted murder occurred on the 22 of May 1958 against the Turkish Cypriot trade union leader of PEO responsible for the Turkish section, Ahmet Sadin. The gunmen did not hesitate to shoot his wife leaving them both badly wounded. In order to save their lives, they left Cyprus and settled in England where they continued to work for Turkish and Greek Cypriot friendship until their deaths.
Two days later on 24 May 1958, in a locality mostly inhabited by Turkish Cypriots in Nicosia, Fazil Ontour was murdered.
A few days later the Turkish terrorist organization TMT admitted to carrying out the murder of Fazil Ontour as well as the attempted murder of Ahmet Sadin and his wife. The fascist organization also warned Turkish Cypriot members of bi-communal associations and demanded to denounce their association publicly if they wanted to live.
Ahmet Giahgia a 26-year-old member of the committee of the Turkish progressive sport and educational association which was burned out on May Day was murdered on 29 May 1958, while he was asleep. On the 30 of June 1958, T/C terrorists in Limassol killed Ahmet Ibrahim aged 46 because he was supporting peaceful co-existence between the two communities. On 4 July 1958 in the marketplace of Limassol, another murder attempt took place against the 29-year-old, Arif Halousi Parouti by T/C terrorists. Previously he had received threatening letters to stop working for a Greek business and to end his good relations with Greeks. On 25 March 1962 in Nicosia bombs exploded in two mosques placed by T/C extremists and their names were going to be published in Turkish Cypriot Newspaper Coumhuriet’. The publishers of‘Coumhuriet’ were two lawyers, Aihan Mustafa Hikmet and Ahmet Mouzafer Gurkan. The publishers of "Coumhuriet" were two lawyers, Aihan Mustafa Hikmet and Ahmet Mouzafer Gurkan. During the night of 23 April 1962, they were both murdered.
On 11 April 1965, Dervis Kavazoglou a Turkish Cypriot, and Costas Mishaoulis a Greek Cypriot were murdered together in their car by T/C members of the terrorist organization (TMT). Below extract from some of the speeches of the late Kavazoglou:
“They have managed to drive the young people of Cyprus, Greeks, and Turks on the mountains to fight and kill each other. Only yesterday they were working together in the workshops, offices, and in the mines, they were plowing the same earth to provide bread for their families”. They have created the myth and the lie that is impossible for the two communities to co-exist in peace. They drove 20 000 Turks out of their homes and put them in places like concentration camps thus putting the base for partition.

I am truly disgusted by the events in this video. Although it does feel like it blames all Greek Cypriots as a whole, I'd like to highlight that all this trouble was caused by an extreme right wing group that even targeted Greeks. They tried to kill my uncle because he stuck to an independent Cyprus and not union with Greece. I'm even more perplexed as to why Greek Cypriots could not see Turkish Cypriots as their fellow country men and treat them equally. We are culturally the same, we look the same, eat the same, have the same way of life and many Turkish Cypriots at the time even spoke Greek in the Cypriot dialect! Had this continued to be the case with everyone focussing on an independant Cyprus there would be a unitary state with no one having lost loved ones on both sides or their properties and an even more infused society. If the island was that intermingled back then what would it have looked like today? As we progressed to a more liberal society and inter marriage becaming more common place . Cyprus would have been a much happier place. Unforuntely, all we have is a divided island with alot of pain and bitterness on each side. The only hope is I believe the problem will eventually resolve itself. There was a time when we couldn't even cross over to south or north with tons of hatread. Now we can cross over to each other's side and Greek Cypritos can even go to Turkey and Turkish nationals can even visit the south and it's peaceful! A bizzare situation considering there's suppose to be a decades long ceasefire without a solution but albeit a positive situation given the circumstances.

      As someone who's only a 1/4 cypriot.
I sometime forget to put the 'greek' before cypriot and honestly see cyprus as it's own country.
I'm still abit naiive and do not know who started this.
All i do know is that both sides suffered from a huge loss.
I really hope that one day the younger generations like me will help to unite these people together with less raw hatred.
My yaya always used to say how the reasoning behind not wanting to live with the Turks is because she didn't want to abandon her Greek Orthodox faith and become Muslim.
She's from Famagusta, Acropolis Street, and because of her pain she refuses to go back.
She has never told me how the Greeks also massacred the Turkish and THEN Turkey practically steam rolled after being tormented for so long.
From my understanding before this, the Turkish and Greeks lived in a country called Cyprus.
The Greeks wanted to be Greek, and i believe that started the conflict as Turkish didn't want to abandon their faith and become Greek Orthodox.
I'm not sure if Cyprus has ever been it's own country away from the influence of Greece or Turkey.
(Excuse anything i have mentioned that is incorrect).
I am still trying to see from both sides of view because to me, it is confusing as to how this all started.
I take everything with a pinch of salt from both sides and be careful with where i get that information from as it is highly biased.

The documentary appears to present a rather one-sided perspective on the historical events surrounding EOKA B'. It is crucial to understand that EOKA B' did not embody the sentiments of the entire Greek population on the island. In fact, this group was a faction of extremists who, in their zeal, did not hesitate to target even fellow Greeks who held leftist ideologies. The broader narrative of the time reveals that the majority of individuals, irrespective of their ethnic or political affiliations, were primarily concerned with the day-to-day challenges of survival and providing for their families. However, the documentary's portrayal of the entire Greek community of the era as members of a terrorist organization with a unanimous desire for "Enosis" is an oversimplification of a complex historical period. This perspective risks perpetuating misconceptions and fails to address the true tragedy of the following historic events.
One such pivotal event was the Turkish invasion of 1974. This military intervention led to profound and lasting consequences for the island and its inhabitants. Beyond the territorial disputes and political ramifications, there were deeply personal tragedies. Reports and testimonies from that period highlight grievous human rights violations by the invading Turkish forces, including the rape of women and the killing of innocent civilians who were not involved in the conflict. These atrocities added another layer of trauma to an already complex situation, further complicating the path to reconciliation and understanding between the communities.
we already know from international documentation that Turkey had planned the 1974 invasion of Cyprus long before it happened and was just waiting for the right time to act. Since the invasion, Turkey has controlled 37% of the island and brought in settlers from mainland Turkey, changing the local demographics. This raises questions about Turkey's real intentions. After all, the Greek junta ended in 1974, EOKA B no longer exists, and no one is pushing for "Enosis" anymore. So, why has Turkey continued its actions in Cyprus?

    • @Trebor1172
      @Trebor1172 Před 10 měsíci +2

Sadly a situation exists where the Turkish Cypriot community still feel vulnerable and feel safer in the knowledge that Turkish forces are present to protect them. As for settlers moving into the TRNC, it is a requirement if the country is to develop as the existing Turkish Cypriot population is insufficient in number and in the skills required for its development. The population in the Greek Cypriot part of the island has also significantly increased since the ROC was accepted as an EU member, for the same reasons - In order that it could develop. The fact that these criticisms are still being levelled at the Turkish Cypriot population rather than acceptance of the current position suggests that unification as yet, is unachievable. Harping back to 1974 with suggestions that international documentation (?) confirms that Turkey had planned the invasion all along, whilst ignoring Greece's attempt to annexe the island as the precipitator of that invasion, is really quite delusional. It's time to move on and either work genuinely towards unification, or decide that unification is not possible and accept division of the island along existing lines. You can't have it both ways!

What happened in Cyprus is truly tragic, not only for the Turkish Cypriots but also Greeks. This video doesn’t mention the atrocities committed against the Greek Cypriots by the Turkish invading forces in 1974. EOKA 2 movement, was a minority and didn’t represent the views of most Greek Cypriots. In actual fact they even killed Greeks that didn’t support their movement. It’s videos like this that encourages nationalism and I’ll feeling.

  • @dia0l0s
    @dia0l0s Před rokem +4

Perhaps the video should be 52:34 duration and demonstrate some of the Turkish atrocities too, since every story has indeed two sides. What's the purpose of such documents? Someone will rightly claim that it is history and shall never be forgotten. But what's the benefit really? So, I'm Greek and I watch a documentary claiming Greeks have done atrocities against Turks. So, how do I feel about it? Do I believe it and if so, do I feel proud? I'm Turk and I'm watching this, how do I feel? Do I feel proud for my ancestors and anger & hate for Greeks? No matter how back in history we go, no matter how many different versions of the same story we listen to, is there any chance Greeks and Turks will become two strong neighbor allies? I kinda doubt it, since we keep going back and forth on historical disagreements and fights. With the right degree of will, I'm sure there must be a way for people of both nations to remember their ancestors' fights and sacrifices, honour them and leave it there. Otherwise what are we going to achieve? We both have our rights and wrongs. So what? Ok, let's recognize TRNC so that the likes of Erdogan are happy (now and for any future aspirations they may have); are they going to be happy and stop the daily airspace violations that they conduct for decades now? Probably no, because those same Turks (the likes of Erdogan) claim that certain Aegean islands are Turkish and not Greek. Ok, make those islands Turkish (against the will of their current habitats. It's ok, we all have to make sacrifices for peace). Then what? Will those Turks be happy and maintain a peaceful attitude? Probably no, they will want the demilitarisation of any island they left as Greek. Ok, let them have this clause Yoo. Then what else is needed to keep everyone happy? I have a suspicion that Greeks may want back Constantinople. Do we care what the Greeks want, since we already got most of what we wanted? We should care, in the name of peace. So, we are back at the beginning where two nations fight for their wants. Maybe Greeks should cease to exist, to achieve true peace in that part of the world. Or maybe the Turks should cease to exist, for the same purpose. I suppose, although the most intelligent species on Earth, we are still haven't mentally advanced enough to be able to coexist in peace (being the same species!!!) and unite our strengths to deal with our weaknesses, as the same species. Advanced species my @ss 😏 In nature you see cats and dogs, ducks being raised by cows, and all sort of unimaginable coexistence between different species. Yet we, the same species cannot do it. As another Greek Cypriot posting on this topic, I can honestly say that the EOKA led attacks on our Cypriot brothers was an absolute disgrace. Our people were wronged by the governors of Cyprus over decades and centuries and during a phase of awful Greek leaders that were driven by hate and revenge against the wrong people - our Cypriot brothers - we wronged them and deservedly got punished for our crimes by losing the north of the Island. My opinion is not a popular one but we are where we are. I have seen many attempts in recent years to try and connect all Cypriots, however at this point in time I believe that a closed border is still the best approach. We are the same race of people with the same culture but the satanic religion imposed by the Turks divided us and always will. Again I must add that my opinion is not a popular one but it needs to be voiced. With love and peace to all Cypriots.

The whole thing was engineered by Ankara working with Turkish Cypriot nationalist who wanted to divide the island with maps showing the division of Cyprus from as early as the 1940's well before Cypriot independence from British rule in August 1960.
Under the London to Zurich agreement drawn up by Britain, Turkey, Greece and the newly forming Republic of Cyprus all the parties were pushing trough constitutional frameworks to support their own agenda's. Britain wanted to stay after Cyprus gained independence, but was threatened by both Turkey and Greece ousting them at a later date thus added the guarantor status of Greece and Turkey. This meant neither Turkey nor Greece could intervene in Cyprus without the other party getting involved causing a hot war between two NATO members. Turkey's agenda was to to divide the island and wanted to interfere and cause as much internal conflict as possible, but externally from Ankara. Turkey's insisted that the constitution gave Turkish Cypriots (17% population) skewed powers including fixed seat and representation in parliament regardless of votes with the vice president having to be a Turkish Cypriot and worst of all the power to veto any policy which had the support of the majority. This made the whole Cypriot democratic process unworkable considering the Vice President was Denktas from 1973 to 1974. It is worth pointing out that all parties that claimed to be protecting Turkish Cypriots were the same groups and individuals that shared the vision of dividing the island with Ankara in the first place. These groups which include Turkish and Turkish Cypriot politician and terrorist groups such as TNT who carried out false flag operations. Raif Denktas (VP 1973 -1974) admitted in an interview that he knew who had planted a bomb in Nicosia that killed Turkish Cypriots. When asked by the interviewer who the bomber was? he said "I will take his name to the grave with me" while smirking. That implies the bomber was a Turkish affiliated person. For anyone unfamiliar Raif Denktas was the vice president of our democratically elected president Makarios from 1973 to 1974. For those unaware Cyprus was invaded in July 1974. Denktas went onto be become President of the illegally occupied East of Cyprus from 1975 onwards.
If this seems far fetched or unbelievable to any one reading this I would refer them to the Istanbul pogrom which happened 10 years earlier on the European side of Istanbul where Ankara waged a state sponsored genocide killing Greeks, Armenian's and Jews in the former Byzantine quarters of Istanbul.
As for the coup attempt launched by Greece against our democratically elected President Makarios this was also engineered by Ankara and Washington.
Dimitrios Ioannidis who was Greece's Dictator from 1967 to 1974 came to power because of Washington's feared George Papandreou Centre Union Party would win the election. Thus the US supported the coup by the Junta of Colonels in Greece establishing an anti communist stance. It is also worth mentioning that CIA referred to Makarious as the Red Priest. It would be in the interest of Washington to dispose of Makarious using Dimitrios Ioannidis in the same way they used him to thwart George Papandreou in Greece. This however was not about communism. Washington encouraged the Junta and Colonels to invade Cyprus killing the communist Makarious in coup d'état, but knowing the whole time Ankara would use it as the excuse they were looking for to invade. Turkey even under its protectorate status in the constitution did not give them the right annex any part of Cyprus and turn it into a de facto state of Turkey. No international trade sanctions nor any long lasting arms embargoes imposed. The whole thing is a stitch up.

What a load of rubbish!! This video is heartbreaking and no one has seen it the truth at last. The images are horrific and upsetting and people round the world have no idea what really happened. How is this propaganda?😢
