    Lucille Ball, the show's Producer, sought out Mr. Bubbles to showcase his great, now forgotten talent from her past.

    In 1920, Mr. Bubbles (Sublett) also taught a guy named Fred Astaire who went on to have a pretty good career.

    • @amahra100
      @amahra100 Před 3 lety +4

      No, he didn't teach Astaire. Astaire and his sister were famous when they were children. Bubbles choreographed Fred's tribute to Bill Robinson in one of Fred's films with Ginger Rogers. And he showed Fred how to use props while dancing, mostly, the cane.

      Thanks for the correction. My language was imprecise as does not indicate that Fred and Adele were already successful when he met Bubbles in New York.
      That said, Fred admired Bubbles did indeed study with him in 1920.
      And yes, they reunited in 1936 to choreograph what was described as a tribute to Bill Bojangles Robinson for the film 'Swing Time' but is really much closer to Bubble's style:

      @@YouzTube99 Yes, you're right. Bubbles was 18 and Fred was 22 when they met. Before Bubbles, tap dancing was a light touch with the toes. Bubbles was the first to add the heel which created a harder tap and a different rhythm, later, I believe, known as hoofing. And he indeed taught that method to Fred.

      Thanks for the additional information. It's a wonderful example of artists sharing with each other.
      If time travel existed, I'd love a be in the room while Bubbles and Astaire worked together.

      And, NO ONE seems to remember this great dancer. In my book, he’s the best tap dancer who ever danced in show business. The father of modern tap was a genius.
