Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.

As Brock showed, Berkey Bob runs a tight patrol of the highways. The city limits are a mile or more out of town and many drivers pay the price.
Everytime Ive seen someone plant early the yields are amazing, y'all will be just fine Nathan, your gonna have a sweet crop this year

Yes you can get a lot done with 24 row planter. I’ve planted up to 650 ac in a day planting sunflowers. Seed goes a long way only planting 20k seeds a acre. Just keep moving along and next thing you will be done. We only got 10 inches snow yesterday so another late spring here. Great video 👍👍

Do you have agitation on the rear tank? Tank mix Xyway - 'Fill the tank 1/3 to 1/2 full with liquid fertilizer or water and begin spray tank agitation. Add the proper amount of Xyway LFR Fungicide, and then add the rest of the fertilizer or water. Maintain agitation until the mixture has been applied.' 'Xyway LFR fungicide should have adequate agitation in the tank to maintain a homogenous solution.' May not be giving the Xyway a fair shake. Fair shake, get it? Send the rest back if you don't have a way to keep it in suspension.
I wonder if that ZYWAY stuff needs one of those handy sink inputy into the sprayer thingie with the spray nozzles to help clean it out and would be BETTER APPLIED in the sprayer NOT in that tank... or unless you can mix it up into the WATER with the inputysinky thingie when it GETS LOADED INTO THE TANK... not an add into like you applied it...??? cuz you are right... that didn't seem to disperse very well at all!!
Would the xyway mix better if you added it while you were pumping fertilizer into tank?

We have a lot of people around us going to 20” corn. Have you given any thought to changing from 30” to 20”? I’m curious your thoughts.
Not really. That creates a bunch of logistics concerns. How do we apply N, and spray? We would need a different corn head, etc. The further north you go the more 20" rows help.
I know a guy in Minnesota that went from 30 to 20 and then back to 30. I know another farm with 2 brothers that have a 20 and a 30 corn planter and they say the yield difference isn't noticable.

On road vehicles, yes. Farm equipment no.

Thtas decent amount, i use to mix with lime and spread, calcium seems to maximise it a bit.
