Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.

Grass is a hard crop to grow. After building a house, it can take several years to get a good lawn. You will get there. Keep sowing and fertilizing and it will come.

When you said an Antique grass seeder I thought you were talking about a horn seeder. The one you are using,My dad bought ours in the spring of 66.
I have one of those seeders purchased in the early 70's.

The crazy thing is farmers used to seed entire fields with those hand crank seeders!

I wouldn't be concerned at all with your early planting. The fields dictated they were ready to accept seed. Unfortunately the ambient temperature may not have been optimal for growth but the soil temperature stayed reasonable. That's a win. You're looking in great shape for another stellar bin busting season Nathan. As long as you don't get a Noah's Ark rainfall that floods you out for a week. You'll be able to afford a whole house generator come Thanksgiving...L0L.

It seems as if whenever you're talking about a "Root" you say "Ruet" what's up with that?
When you go to one of your boys ballgames, do you "Ruet" for them, or do you "Root" for them?

Well, it is probably safer to put the packages in the parts shed as long you know to look there
You can get plastic shims that go underneath gasket too .
Well Nathan, the law of averages says you will get a massive wind storm and then a tremendous downpour after seeding your lawn. I have seen it many a time regardless whether the weather man predicts it is going to be a brief shower.
