Named after the world’s premier downhill race, the Mega Avalanche course which challenges riders to race down glaciers and rocky mountainside, Nukeproof know how to build a bike. Sam Hill has piloted a Nukeproof Mega to multiple EWS victories in the past few years, proving that it’s not just marketing hype.

Do you harbour any retro MTB tech in your garage?
I’ve got that same 2012 model and it’s so fun to ride.
you guys should compare 1999 specialized enuro to 2019 specialized enduro
👍👍👍👍👍👍😍😍
I have a 90’s raleigh model
Yes a specialized big hit 3 2006 😎💪
Even thee old nukeproof mega is a still an amazing upgrade for so many of us viewers
Al_Suq _Yadiq true dat all I’ve got is a Carrera dh bike
Lmao i got an entry level hardtail
Wyly MTB same here brother
prodiebie haselup ouch
i upgrade from a low end ccm bike to a 2015 x caliber 8 im pretty happy so far with its so fun!!!
Still loving my 2012 lapierre zesty 414, 26” ain’t dead, it’s just another option
You don't need an expensive bike to have fun!
Amen to that!
Spot on; loads more money but slightly better. Nice to have the options.
I just upgraded my 2007 ironhorse, spent $1000 on upgrading and it's so fun.
Just send it
@@SimplePleasuresMTB
For 1000$ you can buy this 2012 bike
I'm still riding a Specialised Rockhopper, its done 15,000+ miles over all terrain and I love it :-)
As someone who works in the film industry, I gotta say your guys' use of aspect ratios and color correction and different video formats (or filters thereof) in your videos is fantastic and appropriate and tasteful and totally enhances these already great videos.
*sits in corner with budget hardtail salivating*
cryhavoc same g 😂😂
No shame in rocking a hardtail !
same here
I cracked my dh bike so got a hardtail to replace it couldn't be happier makes you a sick rider
26 ain't dead!
Nairnster M. You’re right, but it is dying... at least until around 10 years time, when it’s brought back as a “new” wheel size 😉
mine is ;(
Try a 27.5 and you'll realize 26 is going extinct 😁
I wish.
It kinda is
0:47 "you know how rough it is here?" pans over to smooth paved rollers XD
I realize these videos require a lot more production, but it’s worth it! Love watching these! You two dudes have done a couple like this and I’ve enjoyed them all! Rock on my friends!!!!! 👍👍👍
Love theses type of videos from GMBN. Blake the Beast & Neil the Navigator.
Absolutely amazing video Blake and Neil!
Just picked up a 2012 XL some weeks ago, mounted some 11spd parts, a 650b Pike, a vivid 5.1, an internally routed dropper post and some other parts that where laying around. What can I say? This beast outshines my good old 2016 Giant Reign BY FAR. So stoked!
old meg rocks! first real trail bike of mine, 2012 frame raw updated chainstay! Got a new bike 16', but my mate still rocking my old bike. reach could be a bit longer but everything else is spot on! And it lives up to the name nukeproof
Great video GMBN. More shredding/riding than in any GMBN vid i've seen in a while.
Need more videos like this of you guys just out on bikes having fun.
Love these comparison videos! Keep making awesome videos!
Still rocking my Spec Enduro 2006 and it's great fun!
Thanks for that video it sort of tells me that with all today’s modern technology it doesn’t really matter you can have fun on any type of bike (sorry Doddy).
God damn do I miss mountain biking. This video really whets my appetite. Good to see the old versus new. That carbon Mega looks ultra clean too. Nice video guys 👍
Great video, editing on point as always o7
The clutch switch on the XT derailleur was a god send, it stops shit like that happening when the derailleur & S cog used to mash up when u needed it most
2012 - The year I started Mountain Biking! Will never forget the first time riding in the woods.
Blake makes everything so look so effortless but so good at the same time!!
i really love this Old vs New videos! keep it up!
Cheers guys for the comparison! I still ride the old mega and shes a beast! Wasnt sure if the new mega will fill the boots.
Love your vids wish i had any of those 2 bikes
And here I was thinking my second hand 2013 specialized stumpy elite was a "modern" bike :D I really enjoy it, feels home at my local trails. Haven't done any DH on it but pretty sure it can handle some jumps as well :) Only thing I wish it had is more internal cabling.
Got to say, pretty sick filming and editing!
I wish does were my local trails
Great video btw and keep it up, you guys are awesome
Still riding 26" Scott Gambler 10.
Love it.
Still miss my Gambler
i have the 2014 one and it's amazing
9:34 DID ANYONE ELSE CATCH THE BIRD DYING IN BLAKE'S FRONT WHEEL????????? GREAT SLOWMO WORK, I LOVE IT! :P
WOW!!! Well spotted Kenny. HOW DID YOU SEE THAT?? Crazy. I didn't feel anything hit my front wheel or a quick stop to the front wheel. Must be a bug or something. But it does look like something flying into my front wheel. WOW
Saw it, reported it, bird killer😂😂😂😂
@@BlakeSamson8 I'm telling PETA
I still have a 2012 Specialized Carve Pro. Mind you, most of the components have been destroyed over time and upgraded but even so, not really beyond what was possible in 2012.
I would never go back to a 26er. I have two 27.5 and can't wait to get a 29ner. I know people still love old cars and nothing sounds like a V8 but you don't see many on the open road because they break down. Romantic Nostalgia.
I want a nuke proof mega so bad aha
jbean 21 i have same one
Jimbobo 100%
I have the one in the middle, would love to see a comparison.
Just bought a 2011 kona cadabra and it's a huge upgrade from my 2002 rocky mountain :p that 2012 nukeproof is sick, and if it was sitting in a museum it's a crying shame 😥
I ride an 2015 nukeproof and I love it👍🏽👍🏽😍😍
I'm a 2012 mega owner and that bike is a fun machine. The frame is very well made
This makes me want to see how a 2012 nuke proof mega would perform if you set the frame up with 2018 kit.
I rode my 2012 mega and 2016 Genius 720 on Fort Bill WC track, Much preferred the mega, such a fun agile bike,
also took 2 bikes to Les Gets the mega and my DH rig, I rode the Mega every day bar one as it was much more fun and versatile. I wish I never sold it!! 26 aint dead. its just on a tea break!!!
Nobody’s got steez quite like Blake...🤙🏼
I’ve got an 2014 Scott and it feels like new still to dis day
Loved the og mega and im after one in small, great bike
i still ride 26 inch tires but not by choice i need a new bike really bad my bike is from all the way back in 2003 and its an absolute beater but it still puts a smile on my face considering its what i have for a mountain bike
I have the specialized enduro 2012 and it's pretty similar to that nukeproof 2012 bike
Currently looking into fixing a pair of bomber z5 flylite on a kona cindercone fantastic hard tail i used to take it down plenty of downhill and single track's
I have the 2013 26" mega tr, still kicking but just about replaced everything that moves. Still a weapon that turns heads.
Good to see you fellas at Revs.
Got a mega tr in 2014. Haven’t even thought about changing yet
Still havin fun on my 2010 big air 7.0^^
Loving my 2017 alloy mega
its 2021 and i love my mega 2012 all time!!!
This video is awesome. I ride a 2013 pivot firebird 26er and I want to see it side by side the new carbon 29ers
Nice work!!!!!
Great comparison vlog something that is long overdue. Well done! If I were to race enduro though I would want something in the 250CC class. JK
I have a mid 1990's Litespeed Ocoee all Xtr with a SID and ceramic rims and I just had to replace the original SID last year and I happened to locate a new SID from 95. I had it custom assembled way back then and still its the only MTB I have owned. The only part of it that is carbon is the flat bar which was made by Kestral and that is Carbon and a Kevlar tiger weave.
It is just under Mint condition because of some small part of decal missing but I have always curious how something this old would compare in the mind of a current day racer or enthusiast to a new CX racer. Me I am prejudice, I like my bike.
so my bike from 2013 is retro now... or am i retro by now by the age of 24 :-P
would have love to see Neil and Blake shred the 50/01 line
I was planning on buying the frame of the 2012 Mega and doing a frame swap plus some upgrades. It was only £1k for the frame! Sadly never got around to it.
just rode my 26" aluminum hardtail all day yesterday! v-brakes! #2006
The old nukeproof is worth it..
If I have that one.
BTW can you compare the old specialized enduro and the new specialized enduro.
there is a little clip that goes in the back to hold in the cage. it goes n a little slot. Same thing happened to my SRAM X0
Those older SPAM derailers were good for just falling apart. Massive spring tension, which shifts the stresses somewhere else...
Ride 26x2.8 maxxis DHF on my dartmoor hornet 2017 and Love it so!!!!
Well the 2012 model still looks more like a trail bike from these days than like an oldschool mtb. I bet the difference isn't that big between the handling anyway. But I guess when you're riding a lot of very nice bikes like you guys do, you really can feel the difference. And I'm just happy that most people will be really satisfied with a much simpler bike . Cheers!
I much prefer these camera angles vs go pro first person
Please do a video like this with the Scott ransom
Honestly the nukeproof mega 2012 would be my budget dream bike. I can’t afford it right now but I would buy it when I get enough money
At 10:50 that landscape is awesome
I ride a DH Scalp......awesome bike and my Son, the Mega 😎
Blake! Did you assassinate a bird mid jump! LMFAO! @ 9min30sec
You should do this with other bike families, like the stumpjumper for example.
Nice test.
Great vid
I see you guys are making a lot of content in Bristol my grand parents live there and I live in Norway and I just got a sick hard tail (Scott scale 990 ) you guys should try åre bike park there is no bike trails in Norway so I ride the ski trail and it’s great for riding .
Åre is in Sweden
How did Neal picked the back wheel while holding just the handle bars at the beginning? Is that bike made out of starfoam?
"2012 - museum piece" - looks at 2010 Roscoe 3 and cries a little.
Man i love these vids. They make me feel like im there bro i will love to do some riding but its impossible for me to buy one i win 150 pesos a day bro i got deported from California 8 years ago what hardtail do you recommend in a really low budget for beginner
Nice video GMBN! I've read that aluminum bikes have a longevity of 5 to 10 years but this bike is way older than that and it's ridden pretty hard and it seems to holding up pretty well. So, what's the real longevity of an aluminum mtb frame? Should I be worried about my Trek mtb that is about 10 years old and gets beaten hard on technical descents and single track action?
My daily go-to bike is a 2011 Giant faith, I love it cuz it's soooo small but still has 180mm of travel. I think of it as my long travel BMX/DJ BIKE. In fact i still prefer my octane1 24" DJ for all of my pump track duties. My Giant eats up everything from steep, tight Scottish tech trails to fast flowy big jump lines in Morzine. And best of all my car still cost more than my bike. That said my fatty with its over-all monstrous diameter tyres is crazy fast and jumps amazing. 26" lives!!!! And yes my garage harbors almost excessively retro tech. ps. I still want my water bottle.
OBC nice dude! Rode a 2008 Reign x1 up to last last I miss that bike! Keep shreddin it dude
well Blake and Neil I've been watching you guys's videos for a couple of weeks now, almost exclusively in my free time because I'm now obsessed with mountain biking. I always wanted a nuke-proof titanium frame years ago... anyway coming into the sport for trues this time I have the option of getting a used Mega from 2012 with top components, or for a bit more a brand new Aluminum Mega Comp from Chain Reaction Cycles at the 'NX level'...
My thought is to buy the 2012 bike with the great components and get a better frame later to put those components on as well as upgrade the wheels later...
I used to ride motocross bikes and BMX bikes but this is my first foray truly diving into mountain biking... I have a great career and I can spend the money in the future for this sport but this first 6 months came during a move and tight budget.
what would anyone else do?
I just upgraded from a 2009 sworks enduro this year. It was a great bike but yeah I have to say it was worth it.
I've got the 2014 love to know what you think of it
My daily driver is a 2012 mondraker dune rr and it rips!
My 2012 Orange five is still going strong
The numbers on the 2018 seem tiny now compared to the 2021 Mega 290. 455 reach in a medum, 64 head angle.
My 2011 Scott genius LT is full carbon so yes carbon was used for enduro 😀
If it's kept in good condition then an older bike can shred just as hard now as it did a few years ago. My 2012 Transition Tr250 still has plenty left in the tank :)
Old? It doesn't look bad at all, I would get exited for getting a bike like that
More vids of the presenters just shredding it!! Awesome vid
26" is still alive and kicking.
if you mean it like the vinyls, uncut bread or reading books from dead trees then yes, it's still alive
Tbh the size of the wheels don’t matter
Look at my profile.. Still having a 26 inch enduro.. Now that I've tweaked it how i like it, it's awesome.. I've jumped on a few 27.5inch bikes and the only real difference I felt was that the bigger wheels and the better suspensions were able to eat everything, where in mine the suspension suck and if i'm going too slow on techy stuff the wheels just dive into those holes.. other than that, 26inch feels more playful, better in the air, better in acceleration.. I love my bike but I need to upgrade to something better one day. Great video guys!!
Carbon fibre has been around ages, not much for bikes tho, my road bike is ~2012 carbon (I realise it was thrown as a joke :)... Aluminium has also advanced in bike manufacturing since 2012. Used to be twice as heavy, now the difference is like nothing vs carbon :)
-2012
-what a museum
I'm riding 2009 scott genius
The pullshock Genius is a good choice. It was one of the top ten AM-Bike´s back then and it´s still a good bike. Probably better than any new 1500 dollar AM.
I'm just about to sell my 2004 kona coiler lol
I’ve got a 2018 alloy comp Inca small
↖️
Here I am, Still Loving my old Gary Fisher fh2 level Betty.
Retro tech? I'm just getting back into MTB this year after an 11 year hiatus. Riding my '04 Specialized Enduro Pro with a short stem, wide bars, and new tires to modernize it a bit. Gets the job done but I demo'd some Ibis bikes a couple weeks ago and.....oh my, yes the new stuff is much better.
Nothing wrong with old school. Just rebuilt a few years ago my all original 1993 Specialized Stumpjumper FS , have a NOS 2015 FS comp frameset waiting for a build up and there will be a 2003 Stumpy coming over from Italy to join my stable of mountain bikes. Just because it is old doesnt mean you cant still have a blast on them. Full suspension and 29 is nice but I will never give up hardtails and 26 wheelsets plus they are cheap and plentiful.
May i ask what do you think about an old Banshee scream guys? :)
Hi my name is tom i’m 15 and love my upgraded nuke proof mega 2012 to death and can ride downhill as well as xc on it.
