The review rightly concludes that the Bossnut is good if a tight budget is necessary. But I think other factors also count. If you're starting, a bike that has a slack geometry, good suspension, powerful brakes, and so on will inspire you confidence and help you push that bit more. Not saying that the cheap bike is not up to the task either. You need to find a balance within your budget.

I always by the cheapest complete bike and over time pull the parts off to upgrade to my spec. At least then you can sell the cheaper parts to help compensate for the upgrades.
Main thing is it doesn’t matter how much you spend it’s if your having fun

Dont get me wrong, they are solid if your getting into mountain biking and starting off on trails. p.s i have owned one and snapped the frame. This comment are from experiences

3:37 Damn the previous owner dropped almost a third of the cost of the bike, new, on brakes but couldn't figure out which way round to put the tyres on? so you basically paid for the brakes and got a free bike. thats some pretty choice decisions right there.

Blake is amazing don’t get me wrong but I feel like there should be someone comparing these bikes on an average level. Blake is not an average rider so it’s hard for us to relate in my opinion because Blake is a monster on a bike. The average mountain biker should know that spending more will mean more comfort which I think is most important, riding ability comes with comfort and comfort means becoming a better rider. I got better when I got a better bike. Especially switching from a Hardtail to a Full Suspension. Everything just got much better. Now I went from a $1300 hardtail to a $3800 full suspension. So the suspension is ok but it’s not like the Nukeproof but a better bike will make you a better rider and you will be a much more bold rider with the right equipment to do the job.

I was looking at couple Nukeproofs at weekend for £1500 to 2k what put me off was the carbon frames just some I don't want with the new weight saving obsession from companies there not using bonding resin through out the moulding process just on the outside and the inner hollow leaving dry fibres in-between layers causing the carbon to be more brittle than it used to be this needs to addressed by companies so many failing! This was all shown and explained by a UK carbon repair specialist company it's definitely put me off a carbon frame

There's a sweet spot in terms of price point where you get suspension and other components that's good enough for pretty much everyone barring pros, about $2500 to $3000 american dollars will get you a really good bike, if you spend more than that you start to get diminishing returns, of course best bang for buck is to buy a good condition second hand bike that's one or two years old.

Please do stuff like this with like bikes. So instead of a top of the line enduro race sled pick a premium build trail bike and do these same tests. Maybe even add in a middle ground spec build. Also, I don't think it would go against the spirit of the challenge to do some upgrading/servicing like 203 front rotor, tubeless conversion on those wheels, fresh rubber, suspension service if needed and obviously a headset service. I know doing all that would make the Bossnut closer to a 1k bike but thats still extremely cheap when comparing to a 6K superbike. The outcome would likely still be similar but the tests would be much closer.

The biggest problem is the fact that if you kept riding the cheap bike that hard, it would only be a short time before you broke it. The cost of upgrading is usually more than getting a bike with good components from the start.
