  • Now, I know what you’re thinkin’ punk; what’s the deal with making an episode about WTF Happened to this Celebrity about Clint Eastwood? Nothing happened to him. He’s still making movies at ninety-two. Indeed, you would be correct - but we here at JoBlo are such massive fans of Eastwood that we couldn’t help but whip together an awesome WTF episode exploring his life and legacy. The fact is, it’s unlikely any other actor has ever had the impact that ol’ Clint did. Sure, others were maybe better actors, but were there better “stars”? And not only that, but he’s been directing movies since the seventies, and some of them are all-out masterpieces such as Unforgiven, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, and so many more. In this episode, we trace Clint’s humble beginnings, as a second lead on the show Rawhide, through his breakout as the “Man with No Name” in a trilogy of westerns with Sergio Leone, through the Dirty Harry series, his passion projects like Bird and so much more. So sit back, relax and enjoy WTF Happened to Clint Eastwood, written (with Brad Hamerly), narrated, produced and edited by Taylor James Johnson.
Let us know what you think of this episode in the comments. Go ahead, make my day.

The thing about Clint Eastwood is that when it comes to his movies even at his worst his films are still better then most films released today. Heck if Cry Macho turns out to be his last (praying it's not) he'll still be going out on a high note, even if Cry Macho was a little underwhelming.

  • @Dagian_Jade
    @Dagian_Jade Před rokem +43

I grew up watching his Westerns; especially the "Spaghetti" ones. Dad loved them. I wasn't allowed to watch the "Dirty Harry" movies-- "too violent." (I didn't understand why watching him shoot people in old Westerns was somehow less violent than shooting people in the 1970s.)
But, I absolutely love the movies he's made late in life. He's addressed many significant issues and brought attention to the cost of war, and the struggles of military veterans; getting his message across without being "preachy" or histrionic.
Mr. Eastwood shot several scenes for "Trouble with the Curve" in my hometown. Most of the other locations were only within an hour's drive, so I know quite a few people who worked on the fiilm. They used very few "Professional" extras for non-speaking parts; mostly choosing regular folks who showed up early the same day they were filming. My cousin was actually chosen because "they liked her look;" which she laughingly said was, "over-weight, middle-aged mom." Lol
After filming, there were people complaining that unlike Justin Timberlake & John Goodman (who is one of the nicest guys I've ever met); Eastwood didn't interact with folks between scenes or after filming ended. He didn't sign autographs or take selfies with the fans, much to their dismay.
I'm like, "Dude is 82 fricking years old! Cut him some slack. He went to his trailer to rest in between filming. It was hot, and he was filming in bright sunshine for hours. I've seen dozens of pics of him signing autographs over the years, even when he was being mobbed by fans, or stalked by the paparazzi. Or maybe, he just wasn't feeling so great that day. Dude is 82 fricking years old, has been up since 5 am, and spent hours on his feet, filming all day. He's certainly nicer than most crotchety, octogenarians I know." 😉
And, I never witnessed Mr. Eastwood acting rude, demanding, condescending, or expecting sycophantic worship. He was soft spoken & polite. He was solicitous to the Director, his costars, and the film crew, and I certainly didn't see him act like a Diva, (unlike many of the MUCH less famous "celebrities" I've worked with over the years-- none of whom who come within miles of his legendary status.)

I watched Pale Rider only 2 nights ago (decades since I'd watched it) and The Outlaw Josey Wales is next.
There are legends within film, those whose names are remembered long after they stop acting, directing or whatever area they work in. Only the truly talented can reach that status and Clint is one of them.
I know he's still with us but he's getting on. Most people of his age would have retired long ago but he keeps popping up with the odd directed film although Cry Macho was his bowing out film IMO.
Like a fine wine, Clint got better with age. Not only has he starred in many a famous film but man, can he direct!!! He's got 45 directing credits as well as 72 acting. Not all of those films are great and in my 43 years of being around I've seen the vast majority but that is a legacy. Plain and simple.
For me he really showed his skill from Unforgiven onwards with such films as A Perfect World, Million Dollar Baby, American Sniper and......Gran Torino (what a film!).
I salute you Mr Eastwood! Legend.

Don Siegel is just as vital as Sergio Leone in making Eastwood the success he is. In fact Eastwood dedicated his masterpiece "Unforgiven" to Don and Sergio.

The last Clint Eastwood movie I saw was Unforgiven. Such a masterpiece of a film. But I don’t blame him he seems like a really cool guy that’s feel immortal. He’s gonna live to 103 I bet.

Clint should have the same badass rep as Chuck does.
I'm surprised Eastwood & Norris didn't do a movies together, great now I'm going be mubbling that in my old age like that movie (Old), "That movie, wasn't Eastwood acting along side Chuck Norris? What's that movie I swear they should be acting together."

Generally i'm not into Westerns but after your description of it i might check out Unforgiven. However Dirty Harry is one of my top 10 movies, i'm 42 and have loved it since i was 5. I also like all 4 Dirty Harry sequels, especially The Dead Pool. I also love The Gauntlet.

If you haven’t watched it by now PLEASE give it a shot. My dad tried to get me to watch that movie for like 12 years and I always turned him down. I finally watched it about 6 months ago and I was mad I didn’t watch it sooner.

my favorite movie of all time It's for a few dollars more, although not very realistic for being a lot of show off, but it's a movie that take me to a magical place and introduce me a calm and fatal character. it's an honor to have access to a movie who has more than 57 years, and I I consider clint eastwood the most iconic man who ever lived.

Mathematically, Clints made less flops than most other legendary directors have made hits... Kubrick, Altman, Peckinpaugh to name a few... and if you added all the hits of the same directors, Eastwood beats em by over a dozen great movies... his numbers are astounding

Eastwood is 92!! He is the exception to the aging director trope bc he was still making great films in his 70s. At 90, no one's got much left in any tank, but still being verve-filled at 80 is AMAZINGLY RARE. In my mind he has one of the greatest "bodies of work" of any artist in any field. He's up there with Picasso, Leonard Cohen, Steven King
