    My current 2017 Prius has a top end of 115 MPH. My 300 HP V-6 Mustang computer shuts off the gas to the motor at 107 MPH. Yep, My Prius is faster than my Mustang.

    I drive the Ioniq as my daily driver and after 7 months I'm still very very pleased with this car. It's full option which makes it just a very well equipped and comfortable car. The roof is no issue for me, since I only have my kids in the back.
    I also test drove the Niro. It's called an SUV yes, but it really isn't much higher than a hatch. It's no comparison with the Kia Sportage which really is a much taller car. So in short: the Niro is more expensive, less fuel efficient and less spacious in the boot than the Ioniq. It has only one plus, which is room in the back. Ioniq won the race for me.

    • @nodak81
      @nodak81 Před 5 lety +5

      I'd choose the Ioniq too. It's probably a minor issue for most people, but I like having a spare tire and the Niro doesn't have one, and probably doesn't have the room to store one if you bought one separately (couldn't tell in the video how much room was under there).

    • @NeilNadelman
      @NeilNadelman Před 2 lety +2

      @@nodak81 The Niro most definitely has room for a spare tire in back. They cost about $280 US, and are easy to find via Google. I drive rideshare, and rear seat space is vital for me. I rented an Ioniq for a week, and while I loved its fuel economy, I hated its Prius-like bar across the rear windscreen, and the rear seats were pretty tight for passengers. The Niro sacrifices cargo space for passenger comfort, so it wins for me.

      I like the gear shifter on the Prius. It's like an old arcade video game joystick and it always pops back to center. It's also closer to the hand than the traditional style. The two things I hate about the Prius is the design of its back end (looks like a Pi symbol) and the seat belts. The Prius seat belts lock up at low speeds and mild turns in parking lots - that really sucks.

    I have just had a new "IONIQ" for two days as a courtesy car. from Mobility.
    Very impressed. out of FIVE:-
    Comfort 5
    Ride/Suspension 5
    Drive / performance 5 - it will 'GO' better than any auto i know on kickdown! Loads of Volts!
    Handling 4.5 great steering and brake feel. not too much sway at all. (i drive an Mazda Monaco..No ABS no power steering, no power windows etc. a pure drivers car!)
    Anyway, i digressed...
    MPG - Avg -68mpg over 180 miles town/motorway.
    All round visibilty 4.5..pillar blind spots are negligible, mirrors very good.
    Reversing Camera, lane identifier (if you should 'stray'.)
    Wide opening doors and a superb boot......fitted the wheel chair in easily!.
    Dashboard data can be a little too much for some, but it's your choice of screen!
    A/C / ventilation is Super adjustable and great in this heatwave.
    without prejudice....Put up against an audi Q2......it's the better car for us, with two dogs and frequent 260mile trips to Cornwall.

      do you have carbon build up issues? I had a 2015 Kia Soul base 1.6L (same engine in Ioniq) with 267k miles, exhaust manifold converter needed replacing at 255k miles but Kia corporate covered it to my surprise because these GDI cars are known for plugging up. i used intake valve cleaner every 5k-8k miles. it burned a quart of oil if I did 1k miles of freeway/highway driving. I bought it with 203k miles. had black soot in the exhaust from running too rich. it got 24-31 US MPG. sold it just a couple months ago. need something with better fuel economy. i hear the DCT in the Ioniq is questionable for longevity. and the carbon build up. i just don't know. really don't wanna be seen in a prius lol. the design is way too eccentric for my liking

    Just for the record to all the ignorant fools who still think the prius has a CVT ala vespa scooter..
    Do yourself a favour and Google the Toyota HSD. It's 2 motors, one engine, planetary gear set. That's why it last for miles and miles and gives good efficiency. Nothing to break engine can work at its best efficiency to create charge via one motor to power the other one or direct drive the car.
    Ford also uses the same set up in their hybrids.

You compared the fuel economy of a Hyundai Ioniq with 17'' wheels and a Toyota Prius with 15'' wheels, which is not very conclusive in my opinion. They both have the option of either 15'' or 17''. The hyundai ioniq has a life time battery warranty replacement with a much better interior and seats. The look and quality of the exterior and interior is higher quality than the prius. The handling and driving quality is better on the ionqi. I strongly recommend each person who is looking for a hybrid to go test drive each vehicle. You are wrong on this match up.... I look at the exterior of mine when I walk towards it in order to drive it. I also look at it when I am cleaning it. Other than that I don't see the exterior because I'm on the inside. For me, the most important part of a vehicle's styling is the interior: not the exterior. I do, however, draw the line at the pre- 2018 versions of the Nisan Leaf.

    Do you know why the Kia Niro isn't a Top Safety Pick for IIHS? I've been trying to decide between the Kia Niro and Hyundai Ioniq. I like the amount of room for the 2nd passengers the Niro has. It seems like a great choice if I have kids one day and need to put in/remove car seats. However, the Ioniq is an IIHS Top Safety Pick for both 2017 & 2018. Additionally, Hyundai offers a lifetime warranty for the battery, which is one of the biggest longterm concerns for hybrid owners.

Also, surprisingly, the Ioniq has a very spacious hatch, that actually held my dog's beds, and my luggage much better than what the Niro would have been able to hold.

These cars came with dynamic cruise control and automatic collision braking that is an extra cost on the Ioniq and requires the most expensive top trim.
    The Ioniq stepped gear transmission kept the engine busy cycling up and down seeking different gears with motion sick rocking versus the smoother Prius. As for efficiency, the Ioniq MPG gauge maximum is 99 MPG while the Prius goes to 199 MPG.
