  • Andrew Kiest takes me and Matt Steward flying in the Piper Apache on amphibious floats. This Apache is one of three that were ever put on floats, however this is the only one certified. You talk about a fun time!!

    I'm 63 and I've wanted a Piper Apache since I first saw one at the age of 6. I still want one only now I want one with floats! What a sweetheart of an aircraft!

    Just when you thought your single engine couldn’t get worse!
    Glad he’s sensible about having one boxed.
    What a beauty!

    I saw this airplane a few times in Maine before it went to Texas, very interesting and cool bird. keep up the GREAT videos! I wouldn't mind more vlog style just around the mid America flight museum, those guys are hilarious.

    Can't beat boating and flying at the same time. Should'a brought some fishing poles!

    Great & unusual video, thanks 😊. Didn’t show anything about water 💦 rudders.

    Got my multi rating in 1971 at Barstow-Daggett in the Mojave (150hp).
    Is Andrew a CFI, and does he do multi-sea training?

    Do you know why floats were installed on this plane in the first place? Was it a prototype, or did someone plan on flying off water from the get go?

    Why use a twin for a float plane if there is too much drag for adequate single engine performance? Or can it hold their cruising altitude while in clean config?

    Hi let me ask you a question please.
    Is it really safe to land a low wing plane on the water?

    • @ErikJohnston
      @ErikJohnston  Před 5 lety

      Ruslan ULKO
      Check out the Lake Amphibian, it’s a low wing. Most float planes are high wing to make docking easier but low wings are fine to land on water

      ErikJohnston thank YOU for your extremely fast feedback.I got Canadian PPL recently and thinking about Multi engine rating and floats. It seems this the best opportunity to fly in B.C. Not sure what should I do first to get it.

    I Guess This Should Make a "Fair" Two Place Amphib... Well That's As Long As The "Passenger" Weighed Less Than 80 Lbs,,,,
