Maybe you've never heard of the Duchy of Cornwall? It is a trust of Royal assets that produces income (10-20 million pounds annually) for the heir to the throne. So no, it is not the taxpayers who are providing Charles, and thus Camilla, with their funds.

Charles didn't 'ruin' Diana's life, he was the making of her! Marrying into the royal family and becoming a Princess and future Queen gave her every glittering prize she hoped it would. Why do you think she remained a virgin and set her cap (and big blue eyes) at the Prince of Wales?
Diana went into that arranged marriage with her eyes wide open, hungry for all the privileges, wealth and global fame it would win her. The marriage failed, as many arranged marriages do, because she and Charles were incompatible. So what? Divorces happen.

@MACMIAMI Exactly, it was a meaningless, throwaway remark Charles made to lighten an embarrassing moment when a TV interviewer was asking intimate questions about the newly-engaged couple's feelings for each other.
Ironically he said it to make Diana feel more comfortable - but it has been held up as some terrible slight and used to crucify him forevermore! Diana wasn't bothered by it at the time - it was only years later, when she recognised she could exploit it for more of her favourite commodity, sympathy, that she raked it up as evidence he was a terrible husband. Utter rot!
The truth is the couple were happy and faithful for the first 4 years of their marriage - Diana once admitted this herself, when it dawned on her she wanted her sons to know the truth, that they were born in love. After Harry was born their mutual incompatibility was too much, and they began living separate lives. Diana abandoned Charles to country life in Gloucestershire, while she raced off to the bright lights of London and her glamorous, bachelor flat at Kensington Palace.
The supposed devoted mother sent her two sons to boarding school at her first opportunity, so they were out of her hair and she could carry on umpteen affairs with different, unsuitable men - many of them other women's husbands. Diana had a nerve pointing the finger at Camilla, when she was a serial home-wrecker!
Charles, not surprisingly, turned to Camilla his old friend and old flame. She too was trapped in an unhappy marriage, and as neighbours in Highgrove it's not surprising they rekindled their love. Diana was too busy having fun living the single girl life in London with a procession of secret lovers, to care a jot who or what her estranged husband did!
People really need to stop idolising Diana as if she was Mother Theresa. She was a very pretty, very charming, seriously narcissistic and flawed woman, whose selfish, reckless hedonism got her killed in a totally needless accident aged 36. She got everything she desired out of that marriage to a future king, fame, adulation, riches and VIP status, and ironically once she was shot of the one aspect of the union she didn't like - Prince Charles - and all-set for a life of self-indulgence, she threw it all away in a split second decision not to wear her seat belt.

That is such a trite statement, Diana knew about Camilla and it was her he loved not herself, she could have made the choice not to marry but she did, both did some questionable things, Diana was not perfect and had serious trauma in her childhood and this showed up in eating disorders, up and down moods, mental illness at this point was not subject talked about by most people as well as the Royal family. They were not a good match either in personality or things that both could enjoy. The age gape caused issues and I really think she was in love with the idea of being in love with a prince not really knowing who Charles was as a person and too young at that point to understand herself that it was not really the man she loved but the fantasy. How many of us have married and come to realize we made a bad judgement call??? At 30, I had no idea what it really meant to say some serious vows , then keep those vows-- two very different realities folks. Both of us were lonely, we got along great as friends and since my family considered me unmarriable, I was going to show them. Two people should have stayed friends , we had so many issues that never got resolved but just kept making holes in the fabric of our marriage, We took marriage counseling more than once and both of us knew 6 years before our separation-- knew we had made a mistake, but too stubborn to admit to it or to each other. 6 years of being unhappy but to the world we were still in love. It came as a shock to everyone, but finally we had to come to terms with reality, the marriage was gone along time, and if we wanted to keep the friendship, we had to have physical distance, to stop our escalating fights and to be able to see the situation in a clear light. Serious illness that threw him into a tailspin was also a factor. So , after we agreed the marriage was dead, I made the decison to move out and than moved to another city . At that point, it was the right decision to get some honest perspective on our relationship and the mistakes I made. We mistook friendship for love and two odd ducks do not always make a good pair. I do not regret the marriage because I had to grow up and I learned some lessons on being an adult , learning to take the bad with the good, that neither of us had the same love language and that many times I did not appreciate his love language and put pressure on him, which does not help. He loved someone else for years, she had a very childish view on love and marriage. Both had serious reservations, the Archbishop knew and still went ahead. Where was his backbone to stop two people totally unsuited to be married? He failed them both, so stop with Diana being the only victim.
