Jackie AQ...i am from Trinidad and Tobago. We also say 'cucumba'. Afro Trinbagonians (especially Tobagonians) descended from West African tribes such as the Iboe; Yoruba and possibly even Ghana. That ochro soup looks so delicious however we call pounded plantains 'fufu'. We do not pound yams; dasheen and other provisions except plantains.

    1. We cook fish as seperate stew.
    2. We cook okra and jute leaves as seperate stew but we add potash(what you call kwoom).
    3. We make our 'ugali' by mixing corn and cassava flour then cook and mash just like you do. (We dont buy dough to go and recook).

So, what you think, jamaican black people are Africans, all blacks in the west, were sold into slavery to the Portuguese first, then to the whites, by our own black africans, so of course we are gonna cook the same way, behave the same way, talk same words, because thats our original tongue, we were forced to learn English, french, & other languages by the slave masters, (but remember our foreparent were were sold by our own black men)

@@Jamaica674 the Africans who sold each other did not view each other as the same people. Just like a Frenchman; Russian and Scots may all be white yet they are not the same people. I am from Trinidad & Tobago. My ancestors came from Africa. We cook similar to West Africans. Why do u all always come with who sold whom into slavery but neglect to say who financially benefitted for over 400 years.

@@josweetlove1537 @Jennifer bent That narrative was also created to breed mistrust and hate among us. It is literally comparing a FEW bad people selling Others to entire nations raping and decimating a civilisation.

That's lovely, one of my favourite dishes as well! Grating the okro is a good idea. The jute leaves are a new one for me. I've had the okro stew without tomatoes which really brings out the flavour. Sometimes I add finely chopped garden eggs. Oh, the first time I heard "cucumber" pronounced that way I was confused. Also what we would call mackerel, some call it salmon or osaman. Thank you 💕
