      Congrats! 😊 Remember, relax and everything will come together nicely! Follow her advice, don’t try to do everything yourself, but MOST IMPORTANTLY. Your wedding is a celebration of getting to spend the rest of your life with the person you love. It’s not about having the best wedding ever. All people truly care about is that you’re happy. So have fun! And don’t stress too much!

    In my Culture, he can ask you to marry him the western way but as soon as you get home take off that ring and hide it. Or wear it on a necklace which is hidden in your clothes. Because you need to plan the engagement event when his family comes to ask for your hand in marriage to yours and decide a wedding date. You can now wear the ring.

    Highly recommend doing an engagement party. It's awesome practice for wedding planning just on a smaller scale, so you can see very early on in the planning process where your strengths and weaknesses are. Plus, we knew that we wanted a destination wedding, a lot of our friends and coworkers wouldn't be able to attend the actual event but still wanted to include them. Was a great way of doing that. Everyone got to have a fun weekend in an interesting locale and weren't obligated to do anything except show up and have a good time. All in all a great experience!

    Our engagement party was a potluck at my parent's house. We bought ribs and my dad grilled them, and we had salad, chips, and some desserts. We had a total of like 10 people, all immediate family, Grandma, and an aunt and uncle who were in the area.

      Defintely recommend doing one! We did one for ours (we hosted) and it was a great practice for the main event. Held it at a restaurant during October in a small town famous for being haunted. Everyone enjoyed themselves and it really helped me realize what my strengths and weaknesses are, and what I will need help with. So glad I had the chance to figure that stuff out well before the wedding.

    Can I just tell everyone here DO NOT HAVE A SURPRISE ENGAGEMENT PARTY. I got surprised for mine and 1) i wasn't even warned to bring a nice outfit 2) There were loads of people invited who I didn't know and/or liked 3) It was open bar and everyone got hammered and humiliated me.
    I usually like surprises but this was so not cool. I would want more control in the party so I can actually enjoy it. Love my fiance and his family (they planned the party) but the party was more a celebration for his family to party than it was about our union and it's hard not to be resentful.

    We had our engagement party about 2 months after engaged. It was hosted by my fiancé/ husband’s parents at their house. Ours was a brunch style. We only had us, our parents, siblings, grandparents, and our bridal party but they didn’t know! We used our engagement party to ask our friends/ siblings to be in our bridal party. I gave my girls navy blue toms (my mother-in-law painted white flowers on them after we made sure they fit) and my fiancé gave his boys small coolers with their names on them filled with their favorite beers. In their bags, everyone got a card asking them to be a bridesmaid/ groomsmen/ maid of honor/ best man.

    Once things start calming down after the move, of at least when you run out of pre-recorded videos, you should do one on how to set up a setup/tear down crew. You talk about it a lot, but logistically, which vendors would typically help, with what, and do you have to hire outside help? I’m still left with so many questions on how to do this

    • @notjessaplanner
      @notjessaplanner Před 4 lety

      Hey Rachel, It really depends on the scope of work. Set up would typically involve your florist, rentals (tables, cutlery), dance floor, catering, cake, entertainment (dis/live band), videographer and photographer. For breakdown it would be just about every vendor coming back after the wedding is done to collect their belongings. I.e. the florist it would be their vases. I hope this helps!

    • @rachelechols5041
      @rachelechols5041 Před 4 lety

      Not JESS A Planner Thank you, it does and it doesn’t. What about DIY? Would that need to be friends and family? What vendors would even be worth considering to help coordinate that piece?

    • @notjessaplanner
      @notjessaplanner Před 4 lety

      @@rachelechols5041 For DIY, if you have friends/family members willing to volunteer their time (during set up and breakdown) have a list of what items go where. Have multiple containers and bins for certain things and a list of what items are in that particular box. Add where you want each item placed and for breakdown that they checkmark those items went back in that box. It can get crazy during any wedding and time goes by super fast. The last thing you need is for people to continuously bother you question after question where you want things and add stress.
      For a vendor coordinating that, I highly recommend hiring a wedding manager (formally known as a Day of Coordinator). Someone who will be there to take care of the logistics and detailed plans you set. You will have less worry on your day and ultimately save you a lot of time as apposed to you doing it on your own. Planners they will hire assistants to help set up and breakdown for the wedding too. Not sure if its in your budget but there are so many planners with different pricing. Are you apart of a local brides FB group, you might be able to find someone willing to work within your budget by posting about it there. I am not sure where you are located, but in rural areas there seems to be many bridal FB groups.
      For other vendors, like the florist or a venue, look at the contract and see if they specify they will be there for setup/breakdown. If they do that part is all their responsibility.
      If you have any further questions, I can gladly answer them for you. My email is jess@notjessaplanner.com. Happy to help! (:

    Jamie can you talk about surprise weddings? I know people who have invited people to their engagement party and then surprised their guests by telling them it’s their wedding. Thoughts on this topic and tips for how to pull it off?

    we're getting engaged soon and ive always wanted an engagement party with all our college friends at one of those speakeasy jazz bars (we're swing dancers so we love early 20th century stuff!). but with this pandemic and closed bars looking like reality for the rest of the year idk if that will ever happen :(

    I’m from Poland and my fiancé is from the US I live in the UK and that’s where we plan to live and we’re pretty sure our wedding will be in Poland bc it works out sooooo much cheaper but I’m so nervous about his family not being able to get there 😫 I’m thinking maybe we should do an engagement party in the US and invite all his friend and family that we want to invite that way if some can’t make it they still celebrated with us in some way. Does that sound like a decent idea I’m really stressing 😥

    Jaime, I love and appreciate your videos, I really do. But, I recall a video some time ago when you talked about how you didn't like artificial flowers - but now you're allowing them to sponsor your video? What changed? Did you opinion change on fake flowers? Or, does it depend on the event? I promise, I don't mean for this to be a hate comment (It's not 🧡). You're one of my favorite CZcamsrs and I find your content both entertaining and informational. I'm just genuinely wondering if your opinion of fake flowers has actually changed, or what's going on. Thanks!

      What I recall from other videos is that she wanted to break the belief that fake flowers are cheaper than real ones. The cheaper ones look really fake but the beautiful fake ones are just as expensive or maybe more than real ones.

    I want to have an engagement party but I don’t know how. My parents are not happy with my engagement so they won’t host or come. I live in an apartment so it’s too small my in-laws also live in an apartment. I don’t wanna spend money on a venue and definitely can’t afford a restaurant. So I wonder if it’s even worth it for me and that makes me sad.

    Are guests supposed to bring a gift or money envelope to an engagement party?

    • @MC-ko2mx
      @MC-ko2mx Před 4 lety +1

      Not that I've heard of?
      IME, engagement parties are literally an excuse to get together, congratulate the engaged couple, admire the ring, and talk all things wedding.
      Guests aren't obligated to bring anything but themselves, and their well wishes.
      But then again, I could be wrong as I am no wedding planner?
