The short version is that an Engagement Party celebrates both parties agreeing to a declaration of marriage (or engagement) | while the Wedding “party” (party is usually left out) is to celebrate the actual legal bonding of a couple (or marriage).
Long version: The engagement party happens before the wedding and after the engagement. This is the transition of boyfriend/girlfriend to fiancé/fiancée. It is typically Way less formal than the actual wedding and is used to introduce family and friends of both parties together, if not already introduced. Typically the event is smaller and is usually hosted by another friend or family member. | A wedding “party” refers to the whole wedding event (in America, it typically involves the ceremony and the reception). It is usually larger, if not the same size, as the Engagement party, more formal, if not the same, and lasts longer than an engagement party. This is the event that legally binds the couple turning them fiancé/fiancée to husband/wife.
