We bought the Bionic Wrench. It claims to replace over 14 tools, but could it possibly be that good, or is it just another Gator Grip?

Do you have a bionic wrench? What have you used it on/for?
One specific bolt on my sim rig for my handbrake lol Everything else Ive tried to use it for, I just end up using a normal socket or wrench.
I got it for like $2 on sale though so I aint mad at it.
They could make a wrench like this, that actually worked well. But youd have to use legit quality materials, and the cost would probably outweigh any good profit margins.
I have a craftsman one. Every time I’ve gone to use it there’s not enough clearance to get around the bolt head bc it’s huge!!! Other stuff is always in the way.
The only real thing I’ve done with it, is stick my finger in it and see how much it would hurt lol
@@Items-and-stuff bingo. I keep it by my sim rig for one specific bolt lol
Had one ages ago. Hated it for all the same reasons.
Justin feels like a solid addition to the team, look forward to seeing more of him.
i agree
Came to say the same. Pretty easy to see why he joined the crew. Seems to fit in perfectly.
He reminds me of Nolan which is good cause every likes nolan
Yep. I really enjoyed Justin.
I dislike him
They can massively improve it in a couple of ways: First, make it able to lock (like vice grips), and lengthen one of the handles, that way you can redirect all of the force to use like a normal wrench. Second, give the handles an angle, in relation to the gripping surface, so that you dont scrape it along without being able to grip the thing. It won't fix all of its issues, but make it much more usable.
Or better. We can use worm gear to adjust the size of the clamp (since worm gear only works one way) and then....
OH NO!!! WE REINVENTED ADJUSTABLE WRENCH!!! WHAT A SURPRISE
needs an oil man left hand designer guy from another channel x)
@@bocahdongo7769it has the advantage over adjustable wrenches that it clamps thr nut from all sides. Adjustable wrenches are way more likely to strip a nut.
@@alimanski7941 It's still shredded the nut anyway.
And even worse, if you lock it, there's no way you release it. Except if you use ratcheting mechanism
Which again, adjustable wrench already have too
@@bocahdongo7769 what do you mean there's no way to unlock it, have you never used vice grips?
I feel like this tool could have some potential if you were able to lock it so that you didn’t have to grip the tool while turning.
Or a more complex linkage to link grip to applied torque
I'd be interested in seeing this tool with something like a vice-grip locking handle.
They have been using it backwards the entire time. you need to use it so that as you turn it, it gets tighter
Yeah like a ratcheting lock that you release with a lever or button. Also if the handle had the angle like a spanner.
Before they do the first test you can see there's a lock you can twist on the top that lets you lock it in place so you can release your grip, which also means you can use just one arm of the tool instead of squeezing both. This also reduces the sheering force of squeezing too tight on the nut and rounding it off
Add a locking grip and this could be a badass tool.
yea i was thinking if they made it ratcheting it would be so much better
I was looking for this exact comment
Just turn it around and press on the lever. The Harder you push the harder it grips😂😂
Even if the tool itself is useless, I love the story of the company Bionic Wrench
Some dude invents a weird-ass wrench, massive company Sears blatantly rips him off, and he WINS the lawsuit!
Is that why sears went bankrupt?
he at first won the lawsuit and the Sears went back and bribed/got it over-ruled.
American dream at work..... Litigate your way to millions.
@@timweaver9773 you're pro- mega corporations screwing over independent inventors?
@@iSchmidty13 Not at all. I wish a big corp would steal something and I could sue to get it compensated! Lol. It literally IS the American dream cuz!
Justin seems to be fully warmed up and comfortable in videos. Love him as an addition to the team!
I too enjoy Justin’s face and words
I look forward to his own shows/segments.
reminds me of korg, looks big and tough but very friendly once he speaks
@@alistergoh9744 "Feel free to log on to the wifi... no password... obviously." ❤ Korg
it’s awesome to see, the first few vids you can tell he definitely wasn’t used to being in front of a camera, now he’s being a lot more independent and can hold his own
I use to have the 8" one. Used it a LOT on doing bike repairs. Best tool I had.
I will point out that you guys kinda missed the strength potential on it. If you pay attention to what direction the swivels rotate, you can continue that motion for a better grip & less likely for it to "round up".
Best way to tell which direction to help in grip, is the direction the levers are bent, cuz that's the direction the swivel closes.
Man how can you guys have such sizes all I got is 3 inches
Wrench is really clearance restricted and definitely one of those tools that do hook people as a handyman gift. Bought one over twenty years ago and probably paid $12. Vise grips are a better buy.
That’s what I just said! Haha. Just like channel locks
@@zaincazorla6914 comment best enjoyed without context
Are there any benefits over a standard crescent wrench though? It looks like it would have worse access, more effort and similar trade offs re adjustability vs torque application - the only benefit I could see over a regular c wrench is with rounded bolts
7:10, I absolutely love this part, the animation and music choice is just perfect, good job Donut.
I like how Jeremiah told Justin to watch his face. Definitely learned his lesson on the breaker bar
what happened?
@@johnnykyr3403 the breaker bar broke a bar

I'm not a car guy by any means, but I love these videos. They are sooo entertaining, and quite frankly just enjoyable. I appreciate the people who make Donut Media and I'm grateful for your content.
Thank you,
I've always liked the idea of a wrench with detachable... what would one call it?... sockets? So you can use one wrench for everything, maybe even add a ratcheting mechanism. If someone could invent that it would be great 😂
Yeah a socket wrench is my favorite automotive tool, and if you get the right adapter, it can be a bit driver too
After seeing Donut's animations I always think "Damn what an awesome tool!" Then after seeing it in practice I'm always like WTF.
If you are great with your hands you will think wtf right away.
I'm not defending this tool, BUT - when you're going from tightening to loosening, you should flip the tool over so your leverage keeps the tool tight.
Yeah, just like with water pump pliers or polygrip pliers (not sure what's the right translation). Which are going to be way more versatile, at least as an emergency tool, not necessarily as do it all.
@@Flottbomb do they go out of your way to tell you what they are? Because then they're definitely poly.
@@Monkeyfurshur English is not my first language, guessing it's a joke about polygamous relationships? If i'm correct then i'm sorry for ruining the joke :D

I was a tech who repaired rigid endoscopes for a few years. I used one of these every day, but never knew they were sold as a kind of infomercial, does-it-all sort of thing. They worked very well for the specific tasks we used them for in my lab, which was removing certain pieces of an endoscope for evaluation, replacement, etc. The endoscope pieces were round, and relatively thin metal, so wrenches wouldn't work and pliers would just destroy them (or the glass components inside). But the bionic wrench applied pressure evenly around the turn point, and could even turn the threaded connection through glue. You did have to have pretty good hand strength to use them though. And I never would have thought to try to use one on my car.
2:12 He wants his stapler back.
Nice to see Justin is finally looking more comfortable and coming out of his shell. Looking forward to seeing more of his content.
seeing (more or less) of his content?
More Justin!!!
The Knipex "plier wrench" is a better version of this type of tool. I used one all the time as an industrial maintenance mechanic. Won't take off most lug nuts, but it was my favorite tool for fast repairs with minimal tools.
Got one for my 3D printer (holding the heater block when changing nozzles), but I fell in love with it because it works amazing for pretty much anything!
The Knipex plier wrench is the only true “replaces 14 wrenches and pliers” tool and is well worth it
I have a knipex plier wrench and cobra pliers. really nice well made tools
100% agree. I have a couple and as a adjustable wrench they're great plus the versatility they have, like a channelock, I cant think of a tool that competes well.
I fell in love with the Knipex plier wrenches for doing alignments. Works great on most any tie rods. Knipex Cobra pliers are also my favorite pliers, period. Well worth the investment.
Props to the editing team for adding those GMod sounds at 5:01 🤣
I love how the goal of this tool is to replace a small set of wrenches that's like 1/2 the price of it..
Yeah i was like whaaa.. Why do I have to buy that compared to regular wrenches
I do a lot of off-roading and carry my tools with me. I’ve got nearly every tool I need in a tool wrap that probably takes up as much room as a box of donuts 🍩. Gimmick tools suck.
@@andyeveland Their target market is people who don't own, and don't know how to use tools. :)
@@eriklarson9137 true. :) Just wish people wouldn’t get wrangled into these gimmicks.
Usually these are designed for someone who would have issue with the normal tools. The elderly or those with poor vision where they only have to reach for one thing instead of taking the time to figure out what's right
My mother bought this bionic tool for me a few years ago for auto repair work. I’ve never used it because of the space limitations of the tool. I didn’t know about the rounding off issue. Guess it will forever stay in the junk draw. Thanks for saving me from future damage to bolt heads!
I was thinking of buying this until I saw this
If you keep it tight it usually won't round stuff off but it's easy to let it slip
Whoever was the editor who put in the gmod flopping sound, I applaud you
As a man with severe carpal tunnel, I see this as an absolute hospital bill!
If you’re paying $65 for both of those, you really should have spent the same money on 1 or 2 Knipex Pliers Wrenches. As long as you’re orienting them in the correct direction, the act of pulling on the handle increases the clamping force so that you don’t have to squeeze, and they have a ridiculously large adjustment range. They’re also just nicely built tools, so there’s that.
Wow $65 is a ripoff. You could buy a socket set and some nice vice grip pliers for less.
right now both of those Knipex go for $110 😬😬 fuckin yikes on bikes
@@eternalbeing3339 LOL. A socket set and "nice" vice grip pliers... Riiiiiight. Sockets... Minus a ratchet. You can't compare a top of the line tool like Knipex, to a bottom of the line socket set AND vice grip pliers. You'll be buying trash.
Obvious fixes to make this a decent tool: make it racheting (locking). Texture wrench teeth for better grip on bolts. Offset handles upwards so tool can reach down to access fasteners without hand being in the way, widen grip so it does not dig into your palm as much, and lengthening the handles wouldn't hurt.
Knipex pliers are the nice, useful and ergonomic version of this tool
@DonutMedia Depending on the way you grip the bionic wrench is designed so the way you put the wrench on it you use the directional force to push the wrench closed when you rotate it. So depending on which direction you are using wrench for, you may need to flip the wrench over. So you are not having to squeeze with your hand and try turn it. If you flip it over than the force you're using to rotate the bolt helps to close the wrench/pliers. Reducing the need to squeeze so hard to grip the bolt!
Exactly, that was driving me crazy!
I love Jeremiah’s energy, always brightens my day
It seems like Justin is warming up nicely. He was a little awkward when he started (as expected) but he seems really chill and I cant wait to see more of him!
Nowadays he's just a core member that feels like he's been around forever so it's funny to see this comment not even 2 years later
I love everyone’s chemistry on this show so much. This is by far the best donut show. Would love to see one about measuring tools.
I love how far donuts production quality has come compared to some older videos you guys are awesome keep doin what your doin :)
I was a professional mechanic for about a decade. I learned that universal tools universally suck, generally for access reasons. This one is especially poorly designed with how it engages the flats on the fastener, which is why it keeps slipping and rounding them off.
The graphics were really great in this episode
1:04 Poor Nolan... 😂😂🤣🤣
I am ridiculously drunk at the moment, but this is extremely entertaining! Thank y’all thank for being a great addition to the car-person show’s.

You know what this tool is?
It's a worse vice grip.
They just Reinvented pliers
Exactly
Vice Slip
An even worse vise-grip.
@@rdspam vice-grips are awesome when used correctly, they are the tool of choice for stripped bolts.
I recommend the Knipex pliers-wrench if you actually want one tool that does all those jobs well
Lol you beat me to it, I was just about to mention knipex would work 20x better if you want a plier that will tighten down as you put pressure on the handle. Or people just need the correct wrenches/sockets/and extensions lol!!!
So true, it is a permeate part of my EDC tool kit, yes a full set of wrenches sockets and pliers would be better. But the knipex is going do the job.
100% true
I have a old metal one that I found on a property my parents bought. It has a plastic 10 bit organizer, some blades, and a magnetized bit holder all built into the handle

They should make it with a vice grip style handle that locks in place
In that case, why would I not just buy an actual vice grip?
Or just you know

Have you guys ever considered doing an episode on the rc car drifting hobby? I think it be a fun episode where everyone built their own drifting rc car and raced
The video is great, as usual, but I want to congratulate the motion designers here : it looks better and better, keeping the essential vibe of the show : great work !
Justin was such a great addition. I'd love to see him have his own show!
I feel like the tool creators could solve both the issues of tilt and how hard you have to hold it.
- Make the tool free to bend upwards (or free to bend with a stopper, so it holds in a given angle)
- Add something to hold it together (it could range from an electric magnet to a simple locking mechanism), and make it more circular on the handle side.
Yeah, I've got garden scissors that can lock, just do it at the preset wrench sizes. Still the tool's head is just way too large. These products are cool ideas, really. Just impractical due to underperforming or being otherwise limited
This wrench is pointless there's no point
designing it as a deep reach socket may be far more useful if it is good at getting rounded bolts out.
Rather than replacing your wrenches it seems like a potential addition to the collection. On certain rounded fasteners, it might actually help.
I’ve gotta say, I love each and every host at donut. Each has their own personality and from the outside you guys really look like a family. I appreciate the vibes from you all.🫡

“Throw it off the roof” justin is great in hope to see more of him
Having a ratchet portion akin to those on data crimping tools would help with the grip issue.
I feel like a lot of its shortcomings could be addressed pretty reasonably to make it even more functional.
Dude the eagle screech when he slammed the bionech wrench down 😂😭 AMERICAN MADE
It appears that the design of this tool will be less likely to slip when applying torque in the proper direction in the same fashion as adjustable end wrenches (Crescent), water pump pliers (Channellock) and locking pliers (Visegrip). There is a right way and a wrong way.
@9:38 G O D D A M N ! its true tho 💀
I really like the addition of Justin to the team, specifically in this video there are a few examples of him explaining things in more detail and I think that's one of the things that I, and likely many of us, like about this channel. I feel like we're starting to see more of his personality in this video compared to previous ones and that is what I feel is great about you guys. Thanks for doing all the work you all do and keep up the good work! Also, I love my TRUCKS hat! It even gets more compliments than my Cracker Barrel hat. I don't actually understand why so many people like the Cracker Barrel hat but I live in Ohio so...
I have had one of these wrenches for a few years now. One of the best paper weights I’ve ever owned.
I'm surprised and glad no one has been hurt in these experiments lol. Great content thank you
I have the Craftsman version, which has the improvement of being able to lock the wrench at a specific size, rather than purely having to use your grip strength to keep it tight on the bolt. Great for unscrewing shower drains to clean them out.
"Jerry and Justins Tool Show" should be a thing😭🤣
Great stuff as always and Justin is awesome! Congrats Jimmy 🎉
CONGRATULATIONS JIMMY! 😎
Justin is starting to come alive, really great additon, like his energy. Can't wait to see how he further grows. And again, though Jerry imho really struggled and was out of place in his first episodes, he has become to be imho on par if not starting to even get better than James. My main man Pumphrey i miss your oldskool wild energy from the 'mid' bumper to bumpers!
Love the content, as always, but I'm curious if the pliers have an indicated direction? Like an adjustable wrench or Knipex Cobra pliers you need to tighten or loosen in a certain direction and based on that it looked like the bionic pliers were backwards? Again, just curiosity!
2:08 his face... BRUH LMAO
Man, I just replaced all my snap on tools with this gem!
Knipex adjustable wrench pliers are everything these wish they could be. I'm an aircraft mechanic and I use them every day they are a God send
It's funnier when you consider that the plierswrench was introduced in 1994, making it even older than thr BW company itself
I like the vice-grip adjust pliers they are more thin and can fit in tight spaces.
i have one, i use it for undoing bolts to replace streetlight breakers. Perfect when you dont know the size of the bolt, but it doesnt need much pressure.
My mom gave me one a couple Christmases ago as a stocking stuffer. I use it to crimp large guage wire ferrules. It would be better if it ratcheted but it works well enough for the job.

I could burn this place down. I could take my traveler's checks to a competing resort. I asked for No Salt.
I bought these a few years ago. They are nice when you need to deal with multiple-sized bolts when you aren't in your shop. Instead of comparing it to a regular wrench, you should have compared it to a similarly priced adjustable wrench. They both serve the need of letting your portable tool kit have the best chance to have something that might work.
The fact that Justin really climbed on to the roof just to throw down the tools was hilarious :D
The Bionic Wrench could use a vice grip type handle to lock down and reduce the amount of hand strength needed.
