  • In this video, we will look at the Dometic CT Single Zone RV Thermostat that comes in many RVs. It has several features that are fairly easy to understand and a few features that need more explanation. The thermostat is prone to have issues if you don’t understand an important feature of the unit. We will walk through each of the main features to give you a solid understanding of how your thermostat works. We’ll also talk in detail about a problematic design issue with the thermostat.

    Unfortunately, Dometic didn't program an adjustable hysteresis for the A/C in their thermostat, and its current range (up to 7 degrees)is unacceptable.
    Here's their response when I asked about it:
    "The CT thermostat system does not have differential setting to be changed for activation of cool mode. The 4 degree swing in temperature prior to system activating fan and compressor is system design. We actually allow a 7 degree swing on thermostat system."

    • @JohnMarucci
      @JohnMarucci  Před 2 měsíci

      I agree that the range is very wide. I am not sure there is a solution other than changing to a different brand. You can try a reset by removing the faceplate, but as you mentioned, they programmed in a wide range.

    Thanks John for the great video. Have you had any issues of the unit cycling on and off and the coils freezing. Curious if you had any suggestions for that on hot humid days.

    • @JohnMarucci
      @JohnMarucci  Před 2 lety +1

      Sometimes if it is really hot and humid, the coils can ice up if the unit is running a long time. Basically you may need to let it thaw out before turning it back on. You can run the fan a while and keep the compressor off to expedite the melt. If the unit is older or you have been in areas with lots of debris in the air, you may need to clean the coils (which should be done regularly) and this can improve performance. I had a bunch of milkweed in my coils recently from a trip in Michigan in June that junked up my coils. Makes a difference in performance if you keep them clean. Thanks!

      Most main door dead-bolt locks are unique to a degree, but I think you are correct on the cargo locks, that they are less unique. I almost always camp at state parks and feel pretty safe with many other campers around. If I boon-docked regularly or camped more isolated, I likely would make this issue a priority. When my RVs are in public storage I first clear out my cargo holds. I also store at reputable places with security gate and camera. So to it depends on your camping style and where you plan to camp. All the best!

      @JohnMarucci  Před 2 lety

      Mark, I haven't heard of this happening, but it doesn't surprise me. Auto enables it to cycle off when it has reached the required temperature, so if it is not working you have to leave the fan on all the time. It's pretty unacceptable (but also unsurprising) that Dometic's solution is to not actually fix the issue, but make the customer use the unit is a sub-par fashion. Sorry to hear this.

      I am assuming that you are plugged into shore power (30 amp) and that all your wall outlets are working fine in the RV? If so, check your fuse box to see if something tripped the A/C fuse. Also, can you get the fan to run on low or high from the thermostat? If you can, then the A/C unit is likely getting power, since the fan that runs is in the A/C unit. Let me know.
