  • In this video, we'll walk through the process of replacing the Dometic CT Single Zone thermostat in my 2020 Keystone Bullet 243BHS. While recently on the road, we encountered a problem with the Dometic furnace. One of the items we had to troubleshoot while working through the furnace issue was the thermostat. The Dometic CT Single Zone thermostat has caused many owners (including myself) headaches over time. So, we decided to replace it to eliminate it from being a possible cause.

    I've learned that the gentle touch on the buttons is all that is needed. I read that putting pressure on those buttons by pressing instead of tapping will wear down the touch pads. The only problem I've had is accidentally brushing up against the key pad and unintentionally changing a setting. It is nice to know that changing the thermostat out is so easy. Thanks for all your instruction videos!

    I’ve the same in my 2021 motorhome John . That thermostat requires a gentle touch per se. Seen some on CZcams somebody put in place of a dometic on a toy hauler but had all the “fancy “ options on it, Bluetooth etc. there’s but two of us. So no need to upgrade beyond the dometic thermostat. They’ve some extra optional thermostats out there that you’ve probably seen as I but for two people we don’t need the extra features. Really like watching your videos . Thanks a bunch . Will be looking for the next one you get out here.

      Rick, thanks for the comment. The thermostat really does require a light touch. I learned this the hard way on a longer trip but haven't had issues with this model since then. The only problem that seems endemic to this unit is with the low fan setting. Sometimes if I want the low fan on all night with the A/C kicking on occasionally, the fan will go off after the A/C cycles. If I use high fan, the fan will stay on. Other than this, It seems to work well. Thanks again!

    Hi John, excellent step by step video. I have a couple of questions that I am hoping you or someone else can answer. I don’t have a digital thermostat but would like to install one. Question 1. Will my furnace work if I go from manual to digital? Question 2. My AC unit is also manual in that you walk up to the ceiling unit and you turn the dial to turn it on and then it runs continuously until you manually turn it off. When I replace the thermostat with a digital one, what do I need to do/know about in order to get my AC to work with this thermostat too.
    I look forward to hearing back from you. Keep up the amazing job you do with your videos!

    • @JohnMarucci
      @JohnMarucci  Před 10 měsíci

      Unfortunately, I can't speak to if a digital thermostat will work as a replacement for your non-digital one. You likely will need to speak with a mobile RV tech or a local RV dealer for better advice. There likely are also specific CZcams videos on the subject, I just have never done this change and can't speak to it.

    Thanks for the info. I am a new subscriber. What was the issue with your furnace? We were camping in Ri in early April, and with temperatures dipping into the 30s overnight, we needed our furnace. However, while the blower started, it failed to ignite. We dropped it at a service center and they duplicated the problem 2X then it seemed to have cured itself. BTW, we have a 2019 Keystone Passport with what appears to be the same furnace and definitely the same thermostat.

      @JohnMarucci yes I tried the reset and leaving the face plate off it just decided it wanted to have a mind of its own. I replaced it today and it seems to have worked . Wanted to say thank you for the video you put out on how to replace the thermostat I was reading a lot of conflicting things online your video made it look easy and definitely helped me get it done quickly. And just incase anyone else is reading this before I replaced the wall unit I called dometic and chatted about the issue they sent me a free replacement faceplate (which I've read often resolves this issue ) but mine seemed to be beyond this point because as stated it was changing settings with out the face plate installed.

    Hello John... We are R-POD newbies and have found your videos extremely helpful--especially since we also have a 2017 RPod 179! This is our first comment on your site; we have a question about the Dometic AC unit in our pod. It doesn't seem to crank out enough cool air, and my husband's first reaction was "It just needs to be recharged with more freon." Well, we're discovering it's not that simple. All the RV dealers and repair places here in Boise say they don't repair AC units, they just replace them. We also read they cannot be recharged. What do you know about this and can you offer us any advice? My husband is a very handy do-it yourselfer (he has every tool known to man) but we're not sure what to do. It needs to be fixed soon because summers here in the West are HOT!!!

    • @JohnMarucci
      @JohnMarucci  Před rokem

      I would recommend doing a thorough cleaning of the coils as a next step. Just be aware the R-Pod roof isn't made for much weight, so if you or your husbands DIY this, try to distribute your body weight on the roof appropriately. Here is a link to a video talking about this as I do not have one: czcams.com/video/Gbm8hOyZlrU/video.html

    • @PodNewbiesLaurieDick
      @PodNewbiesLaurieDick Před rokem

      @@JohnMarucci Thanks for the reply John! However, my hubby says the coils look fine and the problem seems to be that the AC isn't getting any power. We have it hooked up to an outdoor 120V outlet and most other things in the Pod (lights, fridge, radio, slider, etc) are working, except for the microwave--and the AC of course. He's checked all the fuses in the panel by the door; none of them have blown, but we can't tell which one is for AC... or is the AC fuse hidden elsewhere? We also hit the reset button on the outlet in the wall next to the bed; but it didn't seem to do anything. We are perplexed...

      I would talk to a few of the folks on the R-Pod owners forum about this. There are some very seasoned engineers on this forum, including people much more adept at electrical issues than I am. I have availed myself of their expertise many times in the past. Sorry I can't be of more help. Here is the link: rpod-owners.com
