    The Monster from "the raft" is very similar to a folk tale from Chile, "el cuero" (the skin).
    It is said that when chilean aborigens threw the skin of the animals they would eat to the lakes, the hatred and pain of the animal could remain on its skin, and when enough skin gathered at the bottom of the lake, the negative energy would make the skin fuse and become alive.
    The skin would float on the lakes waiting for humans foolish enough to get neer the shore and feast on them, melting their bodies with it acid like property, but the acid wasn't really fast, that's why you would die by drowning first, since it would pull you to the bottom.

      @michaelccozens Před 2 lety +9

      It was even more grotesque when it was "The Blob".
      It's kinda a neat concept, though, albeit undermined by the fact that the thing's slow as all get-out and the shore is clearly not more than 20 m away in any given direction. A dog could out-swim that thing, especially when it's clearly busy taking its time to consume your dumbass friend. Or, hell, maybe when there's still a couple of you, jump off opposite sides of the raft and swim for shore in different directions, instead of taking a nap on the raft you know it can reach-up through?
      The story suffers from an overload of victim idiocy.

    The reason for 3 stories instead of 5 was due to the lower budget; they originally did intend for 5, but because of less money, 2 got dropped. One, "The Cat From Hell," later got adapted for "Tales From the Darkside: The Movie."
    All you need to know about the budget pinching is that New World is Roger Corman's 80s production company.

    5:27 Here’s the cool thing: the Native American actor in this scene is an actual Native American actor!

    Before I begin my ranking of the Creepshow 2 shorts, here's a fun fact: Remember when you mentioned Fangoria in your video of the first Creepshow? Well, Fangoria is reviewing the Creepshow show! Neat coincidence, innit?
    The Hitchhiker: It's kind of strange how I said that Father's Day was dragged down by its multitude of uninteresting characters in the first movie, only to put the short with the lowest amount of main characters at the bottom of the quality pile. It has Steven King in it, so that's an advantage. But... I dunno, there's just something I found uninteresting about it. Maybe it's that we already got zombies in the first movie.
    The Raft: Ugh... I know these frat bastards are supposed to be unlikable, but they are just too damn vile and stereotypical for me to find interesting especially Banana Hammock Split and that rapist in particular. I don't want to see a story where an oil blob looks like a saint by comparison. But hey, at least the effects are decent and the concept is pretty scary.
    Old Cheif Wood'nhead: Like you said, the limited budget make for some special effects fails, but I kinda like the story in this one the best for some reason. As a guy of Native descent, I like the idea of seeing three kinds of Native American that contrast each other; one being kind and traditional, another being more modern and played by Mindhunter's Holt McCallany, and the third being an avenging statue. Strange how the one with the weakest effects ended up being the best of them all...
    The Framing Device: Nah! I think the framing device is my favorite aspect to this movie. The animation is pretty good, it's a blast seeing Tom Savini play as the series version of the Crypt Keeper, and I think this is probably the best tribute to the first film in this movie. Here's hoping we one day get to continue the adventures of Billy and his Magazine Monsters. I also really love the disclaimer in the end:
    "Juvenile delinquency is the product of pent up frustrations, stored-up resentments and bottled-up fears. It is not the product of cartoons and captions. But the comics are a handy, obvious, uncomplicated scapegoat. If the adults who crusade against them would only get as steamed up over such basic causes of delinquency as parental ignorance, indifference, and cruelty, they might discover that comic books are no more a menace than Treasure Island or Jack the Giant Killer".
    Very true, Colliers Magazine. Very true...
