- No spark plugs? No problem. The Auto Meter 2888 and 3788 diesel tachs will work out of the box with your diesel engine. Using a small inductive pickup strapped to the alternator, these units are easily calibrated to read rpm quickly and accurately (just as you'd expect from and Auto Meter tach).

Hi there I have a John Deere with the 3 cylinder diesel yanmar engine and it has a mini alternator would this tach work on it? and does the pod mount and sensor come with the guage? or are they all separate thank-you

Great vid! Can you please explain how to install a tachometer on a Ford Fiesta mk3 1.8D engine which doesn't have a rev counter ? Is it all what you do attach the silver thing to the alternator then calibrate it? Thanks in advance
If you guys could sell a guaranteed solution for o.g. era GM Alternators that will work with the new Invision Dash for squarebody 6.2 diesels it would be awesome. Also a VSS to the TH400/etc; old school trans cables. Or just enable GPS speedo on the Invision like Dakota Digital does

Is this compatible with a 24 volt diesel? My diesel vehicle has two 12 volt batteries in series, creating a 24 volt system.

You don't need obdII. They're just showing the OBD reading to show how the handheld tach is used to calibrate the gauge. If you had obdII you wouldn't need this set up, you could take the tach reading from the ecu.
this is STUPID why in the world would I buy all this to "zero in " an auto meter tech can they just build a drop in working unit???? good grief Charlie Brown
You only have to buy a handheld tach to calibrate the alternator. If you have the kind of diesel engine that needs this sort of set up you should already have one to set idle speed. They're $20 on Amazon.
