It has no use for you; you will be as stupid and ignorant as you were before you refused reading any of this and instead you rationalized your special pleading to reinforce your unjustified belief in an ultimate narcissist that, according to the stories did nothing for anything other than worship and glory for things he demonstrably didn't do, and supposedly rewards you for trusting that his endless gaslighting is loving and that you should gaslight others out of love for them - after all, we are all sinners and we don't deserve to be saved, except we all do and you're just as much a victim as you are an abuser.

No matter how old an ancient human was their projected lifespan was shorter than it would be today. They didn't live healthier lives than us, it's just that an ancient human was only something on the order of 2 or 3 times more likely to die at a particular stage in early to mid adulthood rather than hundreds of times more likely as an infant.

This wasn't *the* thing that deconverted me--but it helped. I enjoyed the laugh at my mother's fascination with ridiculous 'natural remedies' that had no backing in science, but then Tim went on to challenge my beliefs in a god I couldn't prove. It made me uncomfortable and I powered through it, but the message lingered and so did the dissonance. I wasn't being honest with myself, and eventually I had to come to terms with that.
I had a very similar journey with Derren Brown's shows! I was enthusiastically nodding in agreement when he was showing the BS of psychics, superstitions, astrology and such, but when he came to religious faith I was holding strong against his suggestions. Then I challenged myself to some tough intellectual honesty and I agreed to just imagine for an hour that what he is saying might be right. That shocked me so much that in the end I settled on a compromise and I agreed with a conclusion to one of his specials to admit that I believe because it makes me happy not because it's the objective truth. But I couldn't maintain that type of double-think for long and a few months later I realised (with a huge relief I must say) I actually don't believe any more. I was more than 30 at that time: 30 years spent with the faith basically being the meaning of life for me.
I was having issues with organized religion and questioning a faith that espouses love all, while clearly loving money more than the poor and sick. Then a friend shared 'Thank You, God' and I fell down the rabbit hole. Finally, someone articulated what I couldn't articulate. No, Tim didn't convert me, he just gave voice to what I couldn't express.
Welcome to real life basically. You can have any faith you need, but don't put it in a fictional omnipresent being. Put it in yourself, the people you love, the human connections we make, and the absurdity that is the world. Laugh at it when you can, enjoy it. Even if Jesus did exist? It was as a guide. A bloke who tried to help people and spread the truth of "don't be crappy to others". That's really all you need to know. Congratulations for learning to think properly for yourself. It doesn't mean other fascinating and weird stuff is not out there. Dark matter, for example, is mind blowing! Apply your resolve to learning about every you can, understanding how things work. It might not make you happy like blind faith? But I'll guarantee you will like it better.

Of course you cant prove the existence of ANYTHING beyond science, that doesnt mean theres nothing. Theres too much that scientists cant fathom yet, cant measure, yet. That this video would make one de-convert is laughable and depressing. I say this as someone who has no affiliation to any organised religion, just recognises and respects the value of many of them on an individual and societal, cultural level.

I almost never comment on CZcams videos but couldn't help but attempt to shed some light on some overlooked points.
I do not necessarily disagree with all the points he makes (Before your first response to this is to bombard the comment section with condescendent comments), although I do find his way of getting his points across to be quite demeaning and biased.
I myself know plenty of people that rely on a whole foods diet and avoid any form of meat consumption, as it has been scientifically proven that it is in fact linked to the development of some illness(es) i.e. cardiovascular disease. He also portrays these "hippies" as the condescending ones, that there ignorant views on pharmaceutical companies are outdated and have no place in todays views on society.. ammm so what are your views on Animal Testing?

Yes, I agree with him on many points. But, although wit, affective voice infliction and fantastic snappy, punchy animated visuals, accompanied by catchy quirky flowing jazz music is an interesting and from my perspective, somewhat manipulative form of spreading views, this does indeed have many holes and leaves the non-prejudiced individual like myself with many unanswered questions.

His timing is amazing. In the standup show he introduces it as a 9 minute beat poem.
The combination of music and comedy is brilliant. Bill Bailey is another who populate this small niche with great success.
Whilst I do think the video is very well done, with plenty of humour and plenty to think about (and his 'alternative medicine' line is awesome!), there are some logical fallacies thrown in there, covered over by the humour and fast-pace of the words.

Spirit Science is interesting and it offers an alternative view in which some is bullshit and some of it cannot be proven or disproved at this current time. For someone to divulge completely into the belief system that it offers is silly. I'm an agnostic atheist, but i still I enjoy the idea of global consciousness, elevating our consciousness and some other aspects of Spirit Science. Don't completely trash it, just trash the people who believe everything they hear about it.

The idea of global consciousness and a lot of the things that go along with that in spirit science aren't on the superpower level. Carl Sagan even talked about that somewhat. The chakra stuff does have some background too in the sense that meditating is scientifically proven to be good for you. Healing with rocks and things like that, however, you hit the nail on the head.

They have one thing in common: They are so fucking spiritual, they need not do any work, take any responsibility for ANYTHING, and don't need to give the tiniest fuck what effect their actions have on others. One of the spiritual girls I dated was looking for a new angelic healer to open her chakra who was willing to take her dad's American Express Card, but could only find angelic healers who took Visa and Master Card.

Essentially a nice little pavillion they built where they had some students and some profs and they tried to engage students in some conversation about religion over a nice cup of tea or coffee. I was interested in that cup of tea and some good conversation is always nice so i went there. Long story short, the conversation quickly boiled down to one of my first questions: What exactly is a "soul"? The anwser the prof gave was (translated from german) "the soul is what gives the body it's form". However when i pointed out that this may sound profound but is actually just gibberish and asked for clarification the prof was totally stumped. We talked a while longer before she pawned me off to one of her collegues that turned out equally stumped. Didn't get a clear anwser to the very end.

Probably no surprise that theology or just an explanation of the soul, falls over when ontological justifications are required.

This is literally what changed my whole opinion about Tim Minchin, this is beyond brilliant... I find mtself watching it a xouple of times every year... it almost sets things straight again when normal life can delude at times. Tha ks mate this is pure genius!!

Almost every year I come back to this video and I find it to be perfection every time, I love this so much.
I'm so glad I took the time to watch this. So many laughs, paired with a perfect message.
The last line has to be my favourite. It's so spot on. For all the accusations of close mindedness, people like that will never accept facts that contradict their world view.

So I resist the urge to ask Storm
Whether knowledge is so loose-weave of a morning when
Deciding whether to leave her apartment by the front door
Or the window on her second floor.
The food is delicious and Storm,
Whilst avoiding all meat happily sits and eats
As the good doctor,
Slightly pissedly holds court on some
Anachronistic aspect of medical history
When Storm suddenly insists:

My hostess throws me a glance.
She, like my wife, knows there's a chance

This is the most interestingly written piece of poetry I've ever heard. Hats of to Mr. Minchin. I started the video and thought "10 minutes!? Geez". And what do you know, a blink of an eye later, ten minutes had passed.
I have watched this short video like 7 times in the last couple of weeks, and each time I’m blown away! It speaks to SO MANY of the things I think about and feel, things that are so fundamentally important in the way I see the world, all while being witty and entertaining. I’m glad there exists a treasure like this to remind me I’m not all alone in letting science and skepticism and reason guide the way I see the world.

This is good stuff, and I love Tim Minchin. His song "The Fence" pretty much encompasses my personal outlook, but lets try not to jerk off with this poem, eh?
I rather think that figuring things out for yourself is the important thing here. Don't follow ANYTHING blindly. It's not about her opinions, as daft as they are, it's about the fact that she's spouting other people's ideas because they have a bit of a spiritual whiff about them, and she quite likes being a hippie - she likes to think she's totally open minded and chill.
That's why I don't like those people. They tend to preach a lot of things I agree with - peace, liberty, fairness - but at the same time burp up a thousand out of context quotes and misconceptions. They rely on other people being intelligent and thoughtful, and just channel it all, except with the filter of not quite having understood the core of it.
Yeah, I think that would be the irritating part. Her spouting out things just to look smart or have this certain image, rather than understanding things herself and having an interesting discussion itself. As she is represented in the video, all of Storm's comments were just repeats or attempts to peripherally manipulate people into always seeing her as "right" without any real reason. I really don't like it when people do that.
I am a little superstitious, and can't say that we would fully know that there /isn't/ something out there. You know, you hear stories, sometimes. And, there are many people, mostly media, who also use the title of Science to make all sorts of strange, oversimplified claims. My favorite is the "scientists said..." and people just like Storm can do the same, just by using science as their "church" in this case instead. Which is also irritating. And is probably what led to the making of this video, indirectly.
Luckily! There is such a thing as truth and things that somehow come together to make sense in your mind. And when you learn stuff slowly yourself, and think about what makes sense and doesn't and know why, then you're on the right path.
Which is basically most of what you just said, but I agreed so much that I had to reiterate it all in my own words, haha.

I used to be friends with a nurse-- then during COVID... she started talking like this and I just... couldn't. Like... how are you in healthcare?! (Well... she was... until she refused to get a vax and lost her job as a palliative care nurse-- which she blamed on big pharma)
It’s crazy to me how people can come so close to the truth like yes big pharma is not really a force for good yes they promote drug dependency and yes they care more about profit than medicine but none of that means that we should ignore the advice of trained doctors or that ‘natural’ alternative medicine works
Thank god for sanity 😅 it still blows my mind that there are actual medical doctors that believe demons having sex with you in your sleep causes yeast infections, wearing copper will somehow cure every ill, and all manner of insanity. My doctor told me wearing masks was useless right after my favorite human in the world died of covid. I asked him what he meant by that and he said, covid. Isn't. REAL. The power of stupidity isn't mutually excluded from the field of medicine, or even science. Though thank whatever diety we do or do not believe in that it's relatively rare.
My brother is also in medicine and believes in pseudoscience. It's frightening
