  • Breast surgery can come in various forms: Mastectomy, Lumpectomy, or Reconstruction, etc. Exercise after cancer treatment or exercise after breast cancer surgery can cause fear and uncertainty. So many ask me when to exercise after surgery or what to start with to avoid hurting anything. In this video, I share the second-level of breast cancer exercises after surgery that helps women ease back into doing what they love. So whether you love yoga, or cycling, or weight lifting, you still need to start somewhere light.
Research shows that resistance training 2-3 times a week can help reduce fatigue, lymphedema, and even mortality! This exercise program is a simple, and great option for those looking for a routine for his or her upper body strength.

I could write a huge thank you under the majority of your or all of your videos! They are so helpful with adressing wholesome rehabilitation; stretching, gaining strength, lymphedema management, scar massage... This is such a remarkable service to patients after recovery. And it just shows how much support is actually needed ATHER the treatment, to minimize potential complications and achieve sustainable functionality and quality of life! I can understand that covid unfortunate circumstance limits the services but it just made me realize that there is much more to PT than just handing out a list of stretching exercises and how important and beneficial it is!

Some great ideas for additional exercises for post op. I had a contralateral mastectomy with no reconstruction (aesthetic flat). I did a lot of exercises to condition my chest and upper body muscles before and it really paid off. The muscle definition I had developed helped me to retain some shape and retain full mobility and flexibility after. Obviously I had to rest for a while after and was restricted to physio. I found that quite easy but I persevered and didn't push it. I'm now at 6 weeks and want something more challenging, so this is really helpful. I will be undergoing rads, so I'm glad you mentioned it. 😊

Thank you, this was great! I would definitely be interested in an advanced/part 3 of strength training for post-mastectomy strength training. 💗

Great videos! I'm 3 months post breast reduction surgery. Would these exercises be appropriate/beneficial? Forty years of a heavy chest has left my shoulders somewhat curled forward and with a tendency to hunch my shoulders up. II had just started rowing prior to my surgery and I'd like to get back to it. Thanks!

hey Kelly can you answer me something? I really need an answer. Question is the following one: I had leg surgery and some lymphs removed but I got no edema after surgery. 5 months later, I took 10 days of Ibuprofen and doctors was too much, because I had throat pain. Now, after I took tis OTC med, I got edema on the feet of the leg I had surgery. The edema gradually gets better over time, but 1 year has passed and I still can see it. Do you think this is going to get worse over time or better with time? Do you recommend Descongestive Lymphatic Therapy and any other kind of treatment that you find necessary?
