Hi, I have a Dodge Charger 2008 SXT
My car had the same Red Lightning Bolt whenever I would be at a red light. The bolt would appear and my car would go idle, so then I would have to turn it off and back on again to get it to work again. I read all the possible problems such as the Throttle Body, O2 sensors, PCM/ECU, blah blah blah. I ended up getting a new Throttle Body and the problem was still happening. So, I took my Charger to a mechanic who said it was my PCM/ECU acting up and that it would cost me about $900 to fix it. Now look here, I'm just a 20 y/o college student I don't have the type of money for that. I kept looking for possible solutions and I ended up coming across a comment on CZcams that said before you start changing the throttle body, PCM/ECU, etc. make sure to check your EGV Valve and see if your gasket is not damaged or missing.
I took a look at it and there was the problem the whole time. There was no gasket on my EGR Valve at all. I went to AutoZone and bought a EGR Valve Gasket ( the blue one, cost me about 3-5 dollars) and put it on my valve. After that, my car hasn't gone idle at a red light or stop sign since. Before you start changing all of your parts and taking it to mechanics, check your EGR Valve Gasket. Hope it works! 😄

I have never taken out a TB but that’s pretty easy to do. Not to shabby of a quick fix. Wow. You beat me to the snow this year. I am not ready for that. Haha. Wheels to go on next week.

I have a Dodge Journey that did the same freaking thing. It was barely dirty at all. I took it apart and cleaned it and put it back in and it fixed the issue. At least yours is on the top. Mine was on the bottom of the engine and it's terrible to get to.

@@dasllamas i cleaned out the TB it was dirty asf but i saw the butterfly flap open so it works, ran the obd2 a code for low voltage came on, i disconnected the battery while the car was running it died automatically i diagnose it as the alternator

So the gearing related to the stepper-motor has broken
Being that its a boosted and tuned car, when you unplug the battery and plug it back in does it mess up any preset settings on the car or mess with the tune?

My 2013 dodge charger v6 just did the same thing this morning, went to start it and the gauges went up and froze there for a min then I heard some clicking sound from the fuse box, and everything gauge wise went back to normal and the red lighting bolt came on for a sec then the check engine light was blinking, battery seems ok, but can't get it to start.
Id still take the battery to get tested. What you are explaining sounds like a battery with a bad cell or low CCA
@@dasllamas well none of the displays were working right until I plugged some jumper cables up, then they were all working perfect, so it might be that.

on an electronic throttle body assembly you should never force the butterfly open at any time due to the fact that you can damage the throttle position sensors inside the housing. Both sensors should operate at 4.3 volts so back probing the connector using a scan tool or multi-meter will tell you if the sensors are throwing off low voltages. Never force open the butterfly.

So same issue with 2015 Dodge Journey I’ve tried the reset hold the pedal did not work, we did clean throttle buddy did not work, replaced with new throttle Body still not working lighting bolt tends to come on the more the car sits without turning on if it’s been turned on and off we can drive for hours with no lighting bolt turn the car off for a couple hours and then it will start acting up until it’s heated up not sure what it is
Hi did you find the solution? My 2011 has the same issue lightening bolt flashes after I allow the car to idle down to 1 in the mornings. Due to low limp mode, I’d restart several times before the car runs properly. I have already changed my throttle body and gas pedal still it’s happens every morning.
I have a 2007 jeep wrangler saharah u just turn the key to turn on but it won't start some clicking noises are heard and we already checked the battery fully charged alternator is good fuses good but that light stays on the (lighting bolt ⚡ light ) I was thinking it might be the throttle body some sensor or just the body itself .....
Did you test the cca (cold cranking amps) of the battery or are you just looking at voltage?
I want to checky throttle body by pushing it to see if it opens all the way do you think pushing it once will mess it up

Hey so I have a 13 charger and I clean my throttlebody I put it back on and three minutes after idling the check engine light came on same with the lightning bolt and I tired doing different relearning steps and car still idles roughs randomly revs up . Code reader said circuit A and B sensor TB bad and a vacuum leak? Did I maybe mess the throttle body up ? I can’t find no leaks at all??
Let it dry out thuroughly overnight and see if it is better in the morning. Check to see that everything is installed correctly with no gaps.

It tried the way the pinned comment described. The car ran fine but I ended up taking it to the tuner and had it done through him and HP tuners.
@@dasllamas if it ran fine why take it in to have it done? Peace of mind? So you do need it hooked up to diagnostic or go by the pinned comment I'm a little confused now
I have a 2007 dodge nitro and the lightning bolt light has been coming on for a while now and loosing power. I changed the throttle body myself but the light still comes on sometimes. I have no idea what to do now
Did you recalibrate the new tb? Any cel to pull a code? Is your battery good with clean terminals?
Hi, i have a jeep cherokee. I just replaced my spark plugs 3 days ago. And the next day, the warning light shows off when i keep the car in neutral. It does not pop up while i drive normally. I tried to figure it out myself and found that the light pops up only when i accelerate harder and then keep it in neutral, the pops up for a while making the RPM go slighly high. What could be the issue? Please help me
Did you gap your spark plugs? Check all of your coils are seated? Plug wires in good condition? Did you over tighten your plugs and crack one? Under tighten causing blow by? Did you bump a wire loose somewhere?
Will the throttle body keep one from starting
It can. When mine acted up it had trouble starting and when I did get started the car would idle very rough. There was almost zero throttle response if I pressed the gas pedal
I went to jump another vehicle and reverse the polarity on my Dodge journey. And I'm getting a check in to my with the same lightningvolved how can I fix this or troubleshoot it? I've checked every relay circuit breaker with the fluck meter
Oh boy. Reversing polarity can cause big issues from simply popping a fuse to toasting pcm/tcm. That is far beyond anything that can be diagnosed remotely
I put on my 3rd throttle body yesterday and its still randomly flashing the damn light again...I pull over and it snaps out of it real quick and I'm on my way. I replaced the pcv valve..there was a little oil in the manifold where it bolts up to.any suggestings??
Its normal to have a little oil in the manifold. Its emissions stuff basically crank pressure is dumped back into the intake and burned off. Oil catch can will help this.
As for the flashing lightning bolt did you recalibrate the TB after install?
@@dasllamas thanks for the response..I didn't think I had to...I've just been using it after the reinstall and it works fine with a random flashing thunder and almost no power.i just stop at the stop sign or pull over and turn it off and on and I'm back on the road...I will definitely try this.

No it just suddenly happened. No warning
@@dasllamas what I'm asking is. When all the dashboard lights went on and no power, did you notice your temp gadge not read correctly? This is happening to me now & it seems as if my temp gadge is affected. It won't go past the 2nd line so I'm not getting the normal reading.

Wow I had the exact same symptoms as you with my 2013 Jeep Wrangler this morning ! I was trying to pass someone and as soon as I step on the pedal, the jeep went on limp mode and the dash was flashing like crazy. Hope I can get away with just changing the throttle body !

Did you ever figure out the issue? I was merging to the on ramp and went into limp mode. Turned out my car jumped timing by 13 degrees :(

@@srt_g7778 Nothing. Two years later and I’m still driving the piece of junk. I just can’t go in the highway. Somehow it is still running that far out of timing and a cracked flex plate
I have 300s with that light on, I hardly use it, just around town, took throttle body off,wasn't very dirty but had a little bit of water laying in intake. Cleaned it all up and took it out and ran the piss out of it. ( Not sure if my car is male or female) Anyways it was wet and needed some exercise and it's good now,, go figure eh

It’s a 2013 charger 5.7
Stiff brake may be from pressing it repeatedly without starting it. Thats a good sign meaning you dont have a vacuum leak in your brake system. If it isnt starting you may want to check your battery as this light will turn on if your cold cranking amps (cca) are low on the battery. Also have you checked if you have the alternator recall for your car?

The part can just wear out sometimes. It is plastic gears and an electric motor
Hi, I have durango sxt 2014. The vehicle started to take more time while shifting from 1st to 2nd gear and it sort of holds for 2 seconds and then springs with force when shifts into 2nd. Nothing is showing up in the codes. Had it computer checked twice. Pls help

Being that this video is three years old I’m sure you may have figured out that it’s not the throttle body. But it’s the computer which needs to be changed. It should be located on the passenger side under the hood up by the windshield where the vents are. I went through the same thing on my Chrysler 300c. And if you think about it, it’s why all of the lights came on, computer problems.

My charger 2014 rt have the same problem with the red lightning and mark the battery to I went to check the battery it say that is good you think is the Throttlebody?
Can be alternator can be throttlebody. Just gotta check it out. If you have a check engine light with it try pulling a code.

2012 dodge journey 3.6... idles fine. Lightjng bolt comes out then i try to drive and limp mode comes on. Miss firing cylinders. Ecm/pcm codes. Crank sensor, multiple misfires. All that
Just replace the throttle body on a 2014 Dodge Avenger for the second time in a year. Soon as I drive off the lot.
Car lost power and the lightning bolt, check engine and traction light comes on. This time the cars power is worse than it was before they replaced the throttle body. Mechanic looked at it a drove it and said he fixed the problem.
Mechanic stated he don't know what's wrong because the diagnostic test showed the throttle body. 😭. I was able to drive the vehicle home, only for it to do it again. Any suggestions??

I literally replaced my throttle body to a bigger mm. I did all of these things except disconnect battery. It turns on only when starting but goes away right after. No limp mode. Should I be concerned?
Did you retune for the bigger TB? That may be your issue
@@dasllamas I did not. I went to an 87mm. I have new catback exhaust and hellcat headlight intake. It said with minimal mods it’s good but not to go over 87mm
Mines over heating and ever so often throwing the lighting bolt this has been a str8 pain in the ass but to the point I appreciate the knowledge transfer
The lighting bolt can also come on because of bad electric throttle body and coolant levels and more

Check engine light is ok but you should get it checked. If it is blinking that indicates a misfire and it is not a good idea to keep driving it. Pull a code asap

I just got to changing the Body throttle it still pop up can it be a faulty body throttle ?
If the car starts and drives then the throttle body is fine. The bolt can also be battery and alternator. You can have those tested at autozone. Sorry without additional information about your car and what it is doing I can only stab in the dark.

Yes that also happened to my car. I will check the battery and alternator plus a ticking noise that i hear for 10 second every time the car is opened or geting tbe doors closed

Nice video... electronic throttle body can be recalibrated by simply " pushing the pedal to floor while the key on "on" position for 10sec then the car will beep then key off, then you are good to go.

I recalibrated my 2006 charger and before the day was over it stall even worse and right after it stalls I crank it back up and put it in drive and hit the gas and transmission seems to not work. Just recently started doings this. Has had a new throttle body. Can anyone explain. How to permanently solve these issue. Dealership keeps saying the cost is $2500 to fix.
How much for part to replace throttle body 08 Avenger? Shop is saying $600 for the new part I think its ridiculous!

@@jhnykx I am not looking forward to fixing it. I just got this car from a dealership and I’m the way home this light kicked on. Unfortunately I bought the car as is so I can’t do anything about it but fix it :(
So I replaced the throttle body/ pedal accelerator sensor, did a relearn and nothing. My car frequently goes into low power/ limp mode. I have no other options besides getting a new PCM.
Factory tune? How old is the battery? Any recent mods?

Sooo... what if I did mess with the disc in the throttle body(an electronic one)? The car still turns on and runs but it’s stuck with the same Check engine light and ESP symbols. The lightning bold also comes on when the car engine turns off at red lights or stops sometimes. Should I just get a new throttle body?
If you tried mov8ng the blade it it stops at 1/4 open you need a new throttle body. You jist dont to mess with it when it is working. The gears that move it are plastic and you could also mess with calibration/ positioning
That light is on my 2012 dodge charger pursuit. I had it scanned nothing popped up. Started the car after having the scan the light went away. 15 minutes later the light comes back on and I'm stuck going 45 in a 55 on a highway. Checked the throttle body to see if it was dirty it wasn't. Check the wiring, nothing is broke. Pushed on it opens normally. Idk what to do. Please help
What you have going on is exactly what happened to mine. Replacing the tb fixed it for me

@LACzay84 got my from a local performance shop. Lots of times people upgrade their throttle body to a larger one and the shop or the customers have them laying around

Please how can I permanently fix those car problems? I was called to another garage to fix a 2005 300c chrysler. The problems they noticed with the car was Hard or no start, red lightning bolt flashing, no throttle response, headlight stays on, immediate stalling after starting and rough idle throughout idling as a result a new PCM was replaced with a new one however problem still persisted.
I scanned for DTC codes and saw a P0340, P2167, P2166, P2115, P2116, p0603 and more module codes like C2202, U0168, U1414, B1A25, etc.
That is a lot of electrical codes for cam position, throttle position, pedal position, ect... would be impossible to diagnose over the internet.
I have a 2012 Dodge Durango 5.7. I have had the red lighting bolt come on while I've been driving when it pops up then my engine will decelerate but when I let off the gas pedal the light disappears and get my power back. It has only started happening with in a few months but once in awhile will it happen. Durango has 125k miles on it. Any thoughts?
Can be many things such as battery running low or the throttle body failing. If it is throttle body whenit acts up and you push on the gas peda does it feel like the pedal is dead. Like it isnt even hooked up? If so might be throttle body
What if you replace the throttle body and the light still coming on
Unfortunately you gotta track down what else is causing the problem. Try to pull codes. Even if the check engine light isnt on there may still be a stored code or a pending code

This possibly could be the problem. worth looking into this.
Only when it’s cold outside off of a cold start my first five minutes of driving the red lightning bolt shows up and my temperature gauge does not work at all buried in the cold. After about 10 or more minutes of drive time turning off the car and turning it back on will allow the temperature gage to work in the thunderbolt to not show up. It drives fine for the rest of the day

Check your battery, do you use a pedal commander? Did you try to pull any codes?

@@manuelvalle4305 that code could indicate communication with the PCM. Has your car stalled at all? It is a power loss issue during an ignition cycle. Maybe the red bolt is a side effect of another problem
@@dasllamas it only stalled once or twice when I was driving, but was due to new cam/ torque converter. Due to low idle rpm's, got that issue fixed after I went back to my tunner. Car drives good sometimes ill lose power in the high rpm ranges when in 4 to 5 and sometimes in 2 to 3rd nothing crazy, just saying it feels more sluggish but other then that drives good. I did change to the 2018 hellcat cluster and that's when I started to see the light, maybe form that?
So this light can also mean a vacuum leak if ur car is stalling. I had the same symbol and that’s what it ended up being
OMG thanks so much for this video I think my challenger is having this issue. It keeps dying and throwing engine and bolt code. service codes. hope this is the solution

Did you pull a code? Could be several other factors too. Do you have a pedal commander? Up to date on recalls specifically the alternator recall? Battery tested for cca?
dasllamas what is a pedal commander? For a few days it would start if I kept messing with it & one day it didn’t start at all I’m charging the battery rn I barley got the throttle changed like an hour ago
@@destinyaguilar3358 pedal commander is a little box people use to fiddle with throttle response and has been know to cause issues. If you dont have it dont worry about it.

The biggest problem I see and you didn't show was taking off the rubber boot connecting the throttle body and I assume is the air filter... Why did you not show us how you removed this boot and reinstall it ? Obviously, it doesn't compress so did you remove the air filter box to get the boot off or what ?
Mine is connected to the intercooler on my procharger. It is a rather unique setup so even if I showed you it wouldnt apply to 99% of the people watching.
Should just be a metal band. Standard hose clamp style. Loosen it up and pull the pipe off.
Want to pull my pedal commander, but,how do you remove those lower dash panels? Thanks

They basically go in line right at the pedal

2018 Journey GT, engine light on , next day won't start & my throttle body light on , will not start! Help
Did you ever get the light to spot flashing? Mine wont go away no matter what I do.

It just happened to me today the red lightning bolt and everything was on but the car didn't turn over I figured maybe the alternator went or the battery is bad got a jump and it came right on but wasn't getting no power in throttle the car was just rolling when i put it in drive afterwhile it started driving regular took it to the shop and basically my battery was really weak got a new battery and my car is fine but I will definitely know next time it happens what to do
Battery is another cause of this for sure. Glad it was an easy fix

@@dasllamas it did it again so I'm thinking maybe a sensor is going bad I was still able to crank it back up and its fine now but still it's not just the battery

My son's is red flashing and very bad pick-up. When I was looking up what the light was I discovered a lot of people are having issues with the throttle body.

@@dasllamas I hope so, he already paid almost twice what he should have paid and the reason I've always, always told them never buy from someone you know. It just complicates everything.
Mine doesn’t even start and it shows the red lightning bolt. I changed battery. It started working again. Now its the same problem a week later. Could it be my throttle body if it doesn’t start?
Check your alternator
Well Mine is 2008 Dodge Caliber hatchback & Just 2 hours Ago Red Lightning bolt Gauge Light Came on AFTER Car Bogged Out From doing 80kms/ Right Down 2 A stall Out. Re-Started It But Really Boggy & Couldnt Get Car On Hwy 2 Go Any Faster Then 60kms Kept Bogging Out.made for a VERY LONG Drive Home. Car Seems 2 start Ok & Idle Ok but No Speed In Any Gear. Ya its a Standard. Does This Sound Like I Need To Replace The Throtte Body ???
Im A big DODGE Fan But I also Know Dodges DONT Seem 2 Like Damp rainy Weather. I Aso Just Replaced Electrical Part In Bottom Of steering Wheel Last Week cuz I Had NO HIGH BEAM LIGHTS & NO Signal Lights & No Front Or REAR Wipers ??? I Just Spent $500 Getting That Electrical Prob Fixed & Now This 🤷♀️👎😫 Otherwise its Been a GREAT 👍 Car Till ALL This Electrical Stuff Started Up .
Just had this same problem in my ram. Driving home i accererated around a slow poke on the on ramp and all of a sudden i lost power and truck would not accelerate. The red lightning bolt started to flash and the truck went into some type of limp mode. My pedal was dead and would not work but the truck accelerated itself from a stop but to only 25mph. Was able to geg home but was a bit slow. Off to the store for a throttle body i guess.

Did you ever get it fixed ? And how cause the same thing is happening to mine and I just got done replacing the alternator and battery and still no fix
I replaced the throttle body then it said it was misfiring in censor two so I replaced my spark plugs and the coil cover of plug two and bam, all better.

@@dasllamas yes and the gas cap light is on. Had purge valve and esim replaced last week. Lights just came on again. Went to go to the shop this morning and saw the red light and truck wouldn’t start
So I just noticed mine, but mine is not flashing? I’m not too familiar with cars at all. Mine is a 06 and it was in a wreck last year in November. But I haven’t ever noticed this until now
Could be on for one of many reasons too. Try to pull codes, sometimes it just a low battery, or your tb could be acting up.

I was pushing 619 awhp on the stock TB. Didnt need to push anymore so didnt upgrade.
The 3 gears are worn out.
Why not just have a helper inside the car with the ignition in the "run" position with engine off? Remove your intake hose and have them work the throttle while you watch the blade working. Then you could physically see how it was working or not working properly.

Why do they put these electronic throttle bodies on Dodges anyways?? There were nothing wrong with the cable throttles!!!
Everything is fly by wire. The masses want new tech in their cars. Just the direction things go I guess. Ahh a world without pedal commander... I can only dream

@@dasllamas has to be dripping into the electrical and shorting out the dash board that’s all I can think of… took it to multiple mechanics and they have no clue
Dude check the trunk. My evic would go bonkers i noticed excessive condensation when the car sat awhile as well. I knew there was a hole somewhere and the absolute worst possible place i can imagine there to be a plug the size of a fking baseball is yep literally directly under a fuse/relay panel in the trunk, right next to the battery..
Idk why it was popped out but thankfully it was in the trunk by the spare tire so i siliconed it & the other one across from it and its stopped the 'lightshow' on the evic & also dont gotta defrost the windows for 10minutes before i can see anymore

Mine was the intake gasket causing the issue
