Quick and simple repair for PS5 pad triggers R2/L2 on a budget

- The PS5 pad suffers spring failure in the haptic triggers that results in a loose feel to the trigger. If you have this issue you will find you keep triggering the R2/L2 with barely any force.
You can easily repair the pad at a low cost with some simple tools found around the home. You need a Philips (star drive) screwdriver, a flat head screwdriver and a butter knife comes in handy on the R1/L1 buttons. You will also need some replacement springs found on eBay - just search PS5 R2/L2 spring.
If you have any questions about this repair please leave a comment below! - Hry
this was the best tutorial so far for replacing the R2 spring the proper closeup gave me confidence on what I was doing with the spring and the technique worked well. (after about 6 attempts)
I wanted to give you a huge thank you for this video. I was watching several "how to open the Dualsense" and yours was the only one that was helpful enough for me to manage without damage. Thanks!! Could finally fix my broken R2's
It’s one of my pet hates, the how to videos that aren’t clear or are far to complicated. Glad it was of use and happy gaming!
I was going to post the same. I was able to clearly see exactly how the top arm slots into the trigger plastic in your video unlike any other video on youtube. I had some trouble and lost one of my 10 springs but ultimately was able to get the bottom arm to slot in place. Hopefully Sony makes these springs more durable in future revisions of the Dualsense.
Just a tip, to get the R1 and L1 off easier, hold down the R2 or L2 and enter from the back side of the R1/L1 buttons much easier and no damage risk to the white part you look at.
That’s awesome! Thanks for the addition.
Nice tip! Very easy
So i don’t have to screw out the white or black part of the controller at all?
dude,thankyou so much!!
Thanks for your tip, worked perfectly
I've just had to do this and used your video as a reference guide. Thank you for making it clear very easy to follow 🙂
Thanks! My warranty expired so I figured I'd try and fix it myself. Your tutorial and tips made that real easy
Thank you. Managed to fix my controller with this video. It was a bit fiddly to get the spring in, but I managed. No idea where the broken spring went though
Thank you! Thank You! Thank You! -- Followed you step by step and everything turned out great -- Also a very helpful tip from BallerMan - I couldn't have done it without you guys - Excellent easy to follow video!
Thanks for the video :) I had two controllers, the R2 spring on both broke and the second one happened after not even 24 hours!! The hardest part was honestly getting that black faceplate back in. But I got it!
Thanks for the comment and I’m glad the vid was useful for you.
The black faceplate was tricky especially at the forward points as you can see from the vid. Glad it’s all sorted now though!
Thank you so much!! You’re a life saver mate, just saved me 70$ thanks!!
Thank you so much for this, I just repaired my R2 while watching along to this, you made everything very clear, thank you!!!!
My only feedback was that when I levered my R1 off by the corner, it got wedged in deep on the other corner, and I sweated for a few mins trying to get it off, I'd recommend going for the middle of the LR1 buttons to pop them off.
Great guide. I have now repaired my controller and it works better than before. Following your guide while doing it was very easy. Thank you very much for the upload.
Thanks for the vid! Easy fix and my controller is back to new. Appreciate ya 👍
Thank you for this very in-depth tutorial. Just got mine fixed and I also added a new skin plate in exchange the black part
Useful vid, helped me get the new spring on. Cost £4 to fix and took 5 mins.
Thanks very much mate still currently fiddling reattaching the black plastic part but the spring is in 😂 great video
Thanks man, really helpful. Simple and easy
Just replaced my spring followed his steps worked great thanks!
Glad this guide was of some help! Happy gaming
@@TheCallinswood hi I'm trying this but I have one problem whts the size 0f the spring
Yooo thanks for this I stumbled over my ottoman last night and messed up my ps5 r2 trigger this helped me fix it lucky for me the spring didn’t break
Thank you!!! Exactly what I was looking for, easy to follow. Take care.
Your channel is a hero i was wanting to buy a ps5 but scared if it would break on me so really thank you
Glad this helped out!
Thank u..Fixed R2..Still a lil more tension than L2..but still works.Very easy instructions..Thank u😁
Bro thank you so much, my r2 and r1 button wasn’t working right, thanks to your video I was finally able to fix it 😁
Thanks so much man i will be buying myself some of that springs and il try to fix it gently because i know you said it but im a bit scared but i will try
This is a really well made guide. Helped me out alot.
Thanks brother! Great video. Worked like a charm.
Thank you so much! I just bought a new scuf controller and this happened to me today while playing destiny. I switch the spring from the controller that came with my PS5. Works like a charm again. Im gonna give u a like and well earned follow mate, thanks again!
Excellent video, clear and informative. Thanks!
Thankyou for your comment!
Had this issue with with a new controller less than 2months old. Having replaced the broken springs back to working order. Saved me buying new new controller 😁
Thanks for the comment and I’m glad to hear this worked out for you!
Legend, cheers mate! Tip for everyone else - The spring in the PS4 controller for the R2 and L2 triggers are the exact same. So if you have a faulty PS4 controller like I did, disassemble that and use one of the springs inside.
Thanks for this …..far this was a pain in the arse to get the bloody screws in after fixing the spring swear it took me nearly 20 minutes 😂😂
Thank you for your video. I got mine the first weeks of December, and noticed this problem around January. The DS5 is very nice and feels great in my hands, but the springs are a major problem since they break so often. Add to this that they made them considerably harder to repair than the DS4, where the screws were exposed. I'm kind of disappointed.
Ps4 and ps5 dumb as
Thank You very much! My R2 was weeaak and I just fixed it eith this video!!! I'm gonna share it with some peple I know who are having this same problem!
Really glad it helped and thanks for the comment. Feel free to share
Had to open mine because when the faulty controller was connected the console wasn't getting past certain games loading screen or I couldn't "press X to continue", I was SO WORRIED it was an issue with the ps5 lol, turns out the L2 button was being pressed on without me pressing it, which was interfering with that initial game loading screen, but after adjusting the spring a bit it worked like a charm and everything's fixed!
Same! Going to adjust it now
Going thru this same thing now? So this works ?
I'm having the same problem but I'm not sure how u did it
“ quick and simple “ literally takes the whole controller apart
Thank you for your help , from France
A massive great super thank you from France !
Freaking awesome best explained video ever I fixed my controller right after I watched this
Thanks, my R2 just got stuck, was just trying to figure out how to open. Had to press R2 section back into place.
bought a pack of 2 springs, first one pinged off the hook and was never found again, second one worked a charm thanks to this vid 😂
Brilliant guide, thank you so much! Looking forward to repairing both of my controllers. (The second one just failed so now I have no choice, and had to look into it, haha.) This is a huge help!!
Yaay finally I fixed the L2 trigger spring replacement myself. Took me couple of tries and 15 mins in total. Thank you sir
Awesome news! Glad to hear this helped you out! Now back to gaming!!
My spring keeps flying out help
@@lilBrymp that’s what she said 😂
I finally got to fixing it, took me 2 hrs of crying
@@TheCallinswood mind if u can fix mines?
R2 spring all fixed thanks to this video 👍
Thank you very much! Nice tutorial!
Thanks man, really helpful! Cheers
Easy fix for my R2 trigger. Thanks so much!
Brilliant vid imagine will have to do this at some point on my white controlled when eventually get a PS5.
Thank you, helped me a lot.
Thanks man, really useful 👍
How much does it cost to fix a ps5 controller? my L2 is completely stuck, it won't move.
Is there still a way to fix the L2 button without the tedious teardown? Even if it's 50x more harder to get the spring on? Lol. Doable still?
A tiny lump of blu tac helps enormously with this. Both to stop the damn spring from jumping off and with putting the 4 tiny case screws back in.
Excellent. Details etc. Thank you
Nice work gr8 video very helpful
You're awesome my guy, I've bought 2 (3 with the included) controllers so far, just had a second one break and was able to take the good spring from the 1st broken controller and use it in the 2nd broken controller 😁
How on earth did you get the spring in the second catch so easily? You're a God, thank you!
Thanks dude, got mine from amazon too and what you said about the discount influenced me to contact them, wasn't going to bother as it's still useable just annoying. Getting £45 off them is better than nothing lol :)
Great vid. Thanks. Did my R2 after warranty ran out.
Thank you, Sir! You are awesome
Thank you very much for the help
It Worked!, thanks for the tutoríal
Also brought a repair kit 4 $10 on Amazon..Thanks💯
Just fixed my L2 spring. That was really testing my patience as that side is hidden away
Thank you for this video! I also Bentley Gended it like you said 13:25. I am not excited for recoloring. 🙏
Thanks man this really helped
Great video mate. This happened to one of my 3-month-old controllers. Spoke with Sony support today and sending it back for a replacement. This seems like a pretty common issue. I've got 4 generations of PlayStations still with working controllers. This is a bit of a joke how bad these are.
How do you contact them?
@@aziak1317 I called them. I googled the number here in Australia. Pretty long on-hold waits though. About 45 minutes. I'm still waiting for it to come back. 🤞
Gonna buy a tool kit and try soon my L2 button spring seems like something is stuck in there it’s brand new so doubt it’s the spring itself makes a lil noise unless I blow into the stick area
Thank you. You helped me fix my controller lol
Thank you so much. My R2 just went a few days ago but thanks to your video it is now fixed. I tried with tweezers but honestly found it easier holding the spring down with my finger and using a screwdriver like you. Saved me a lot of hassle. Nice straightforward unbloated video, simple and clear.
Great video, thanks so much!
Glad this was useful
One Of The Easiest Best Described And Demonstrated Tutorials Iv Seen. My Controller Has Been Fixed In No Time. Thank You My Friend 🙌🏽
Would be good to see a video of the L2 spring being replaced, so much harder
So when measuring my controller, the R2 value for input is stuck at 255. I checked the spring, but it's still there and seems to be fine. I'm waiting for springs to come in, so I'll replace it anyways.
However, does anyone know if it could be another issue?
So I didn't even bother putting the tiny screws back under the triggers because I used a knife to unscrew them. Is that going to make a difference
My r2 spring busted , walked right into ebgames and got a replacement, not without the snobby lady at the counter saying "my bf has cod and plays pretty hard and his never broke. Lmao I've had my ps4 controller for like 5 years, my nephew dropped it so many times I lost count and it never broke. My dualsense was not dropped once , I was honestly just playing destiny 2 and bam it went soft, thats never happened to me before.... lol
Hopefully you managed to get this fixed!
The bigger piece of the spring (3/4)was stuck to the motor for vibration, obviously there is a magnetic element inside. My son didn't even realize it was broken. I was tearing down to do a POD replacement, damned stick drift. Fun stuff. Oh I didnt know the spring was broken so I pulled one off his old ps4 controller, but bent the ends of the spring differently so the triggers had no play. The springs are a tad different.
Legend 😊🙃 thanks for vid!
Broke my controller thanks mate
thanks so much for the help !!
erm so my L1 and L2 buttons are like pushed in and when i try to push L2 down the controller opens. help?
My L movement stick is kind of loose, and i noticed my r1 and l1 buttons are moving the same way. I know the L movement stick is a problem but not the r1 l1 buttons.
Can you tell me if thats a problem? And how to fix the L movement stick?
Wow, awesome. Now on to ebay to order some springs. Was going to send my pad back to Sony, but I'm thinking this will probably be happening again in the future, so I think all PS5 owners need to get used to taking there pad apart and replacing the spring.
It really shouldn’t happen in the first place. I read the average pad life is 400 hours which isn’t good. I’m glad this was useful for you though!
@@TheCallinswood my pad died in under 5hrs of gameplay. Totally agree that it shouldn't happen and there are major flaws with the controller. I have owned a Snes, Gamecube, Switch, N64, PS1-PS4 and never had an issue so early in a consoles life before now. Really bad on Sony's behalf. To add i was never aggressive with the pad to prompt the spring issue.
Thanks again for the awesome video 👍. I should have the springs ordered from ebay deliverd next week.
Love you so much for the Video!👍🤣
You are welcome
Thanks brother, this was very informative
I just looked it up on ebay and they're very cheap, a pack of 10 springs is around 2 to 4 dollars
Given how my controller took 4 months to break both springs, 2 dollars a year for just fixing a controller is a bargain
Whilst it shouldn’t happen in months I’m glad you now have a fix and the video was useful
bru i need answer Asap can u take spring controller of ps4 and put it on ps5?
6:40 I tried to open this part REAL gently but still ended up breaking the clip. tried on all 3 controllers and broke all of them still don't know how to pull it off without doing any damage.
My controller keeps clicking because of the adaptive trigger the R2 and suggestions to fix?
I disassembled my controller to clean it but after reassembling it for some reason the r1 button stopped working I took it apart again and checked if any of the wires aren’t connected but everything was connected and it seemed fine from the inside. I tried resetting the controller but it didn’t help. Any help or suggestions ?
I just received a pair of trigger springs for dualshock4 which are the same ones used in dualsense, to fix the same issue i've run into on the dualsense. Now comes the tricky part of placing the spring on the L2 trigger
Thankyou so much mate !
best video of this problem
Very helpful video! Only issue is I may have to get a replacement anyways as It may void the warranty on my PS5!
Won’t void the warranty on your console but probably the pad. You can send them back to Sony but the lead time is a few weeks. I was lucky and was reimbursed the cost of a controller by my retailer so I had a free pad to work on
For me its my l2 i just got my ps5 and when i push it in it feels like its scrapes and is a lil squaky any help?
How do you repair the square button cause my square button doesn’t work I can press on it but it doesn’t work when I play games
I got my dualsense controller like 3 weeks ago and I feel like the L2 trigger feels different then the R2, R2 feels smooth but the L2 idk why but I feel when I am pressing its as smooth as R2 Is that a problem or its just new because its not loose
Hi. The spring is fine on my L2 button. I opened it up watching this to double check and everything looks perfect. But the L2 button isn't working...sometimes it randomly decides to work though. What's going on ahhh
God damn it Dark Souls 3 You broke my L2 trigger.
My R2 is too sensitive idk why how do I fix without opening the whole pad up?
I love you, fixed 2 controllers
Ummm am I tripping or my controller doesn’t have that seat the spring sits in?
If the controller was dropped and the trigger is stuck can it be done the same?
Thanks a lot for the video, Idk why but I found a screw inside my controller, this thing blocked the R2 trigger I think, but still dont know where is this screw from ?
