- čas přidán 7. 09. 2024
- PS5 Controller, the DualSense R2 or L2 triggers are becoming loose overtime. This is because of an issue on the spring being used by the trigger buttons right above the Adaptive Trigger motor.
This quick tutorial will show you how to replace broken spring on Dual Sense R2 button, fixing it's resistance and looseness issue.
For the springs you can just search "R2 Trigger spring in Lazada or Shopee or any online stores and make sure to get the 'new version' or the springs for DS4 version 2 and up and not the old school one.

This tutorial helped save my DS5. The spring for the right trigger broke recently (really weak spring) and this helped a ton. Thank you!
How did you get a dualsense from like 32 years into the future? And I see they still haven't fixed the spring. Lol
It is not called DualSense 5
@Clone82 i understand the joke dw
Thx for the tutorial. Playing shooting games with a loose R2 controller is hell😭😭
Preach that trying to play league play on cod and killing my team mates all the time 😂
I feel you same just happened to me I call ps and they said I may take a 30 days to get a new one plus I have to paid for shipping (20dlls) I just went to Best Buy to get a new one with warranty if that happens they will change mine for a new one, I’m going to fix the older one, and I notice the black cover he’s using is only 7dlls that protect the controller from being dirty lol
Im playing hell let loose and keep team killing by accident. Ppl arent impressed.
Elite dangerous is worse
It is 😂
Only had the thing for a couple months and it’s snapped, my ps4 controller has lasted years smh
fr bruh
Fr
Same it works but the trigger doesn't feel the same anymore
Man mine got broken in 3 days of buying the console
Go send your controller to Sony for repairs
Took a spring out of an old DS4 and used it to replace the broken print on my R2 followed these instructions and it was easy as pie.
You sir are a legend.
I used a DS3 controller spring lol.
@@cm2881 for Real? Try to do it too, but the spring seems different, it has a different bend at the end. How did you solve that?
@@SPK381 I just bent it so it had more resistance. But other than that it fit just fine. I wonder if your PS3 spring is defective maybe?
@@cm2881 no it worked great. Just bendet it over a bit, for more resistance and it fits well🤙🏼 thanks to you, never thought the ps3 had nearly the same springs😂🤙🏼
@@SPK381 Awesome man, glad I could help :)
Thank you for saving me 30 days waiting for warranty services to replace my dualsense.
I used a Dualsense spring and it's working like a charm now.
trying to replace the spring in the L2 Trigger was a nightmare...
Bro...I'm trying to do it right now and my God the l2 is hidden. The r2 looks so much easier 😭😭
To all of you who're reading this, if you take off the battery it'll be MILES easier
@@raven.4815 thanks!
@@raven.4815 yes I did that and it was still really hard but a bit easier
I spent over 45 mins trying to fix it… my sister did it in 5. We don’t have their precision 😂😂😂
Thank you for the quick tutorial. already fixed mine and ordered 10 more spare springs just in case.
Where from?
Does the new springs feels the same? some say not as tight.
Thanks for the tutorial... I just followed along and replaced my R2 trigger today. Also you can find the dualsense springs on Amazon now, so both triggers will feel the same.
This was very helpful! One suggestion I might add is that I found the resistance felt more similar to the original when I took both springs from the DualShock and put them on the R2 trigger. It's a bit tricky to hook them in without tweezers, but they seem to stay in place once they are there.
🤔💯
What shooting game. Work with this awesome l2 and r2 feature. I traded series x . Both are great system. Going get series s. Future. . I saw ps5 at my used games store by me .
Amazing tutorial, I didn’t realise it was this easy!
I assumed PlayStation had actually made it more difficult so that we would need to buy replacements.
I paid £25 for my last R2 repair, you just saved me paying out again.
Thank you, You’re an absolute gent 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Good one bro, o got some experience with DS4 this one seem easier cause there's no ribbon cable to bend or manipulate. I thought it was gonna be harder to fix. Very grateful
I took apart a DS4 to grab the spring for this DS5 fix, and the DS4 has less parts to disassemble but is much more fiddly. Pretty sure I broke a plastic clip in the DS4 and I was trying to be careful. The DS3 was a dream to take apart. Didn't even need a video.
I swear, The ps3 controller is easier to disassemble like butter.
Then, opening a ps4 controller is like disablihg a bomb
While the ps5 is just like disassembling a nuke, so many gears in the trigger, just one shard of plastic unknowingly got in there and the gears snapx
You made it look so easy lol. I battled with the spring for almost 2 hours to get it into place and not come undone or spring away while getting it into the right position. Bottom line though, you helped fix my controller, so thanks! 😅
Same here. Was a tough 30-40 min battle, just replaced mine, that moment when you finally do it though!
@@jelianradoev6246 right sides not bad, this left side is killing me…
@@Jhans123 I'm on the left side rn absolute nightmare
@@raptorak1 first time took forever. I had to do it to the other one and somehow I did it pretty quick.. patience. Lol.
Managed to do it. You have to have a pair of tweezers really. Get the spring loop on the centre piece and the bottom clamped in to the non-trigger part, and use your finger to jam them so they don't move, then get some tweezers to force the other part of the spring past the trigger and into the clamp. Gotta push your finger against the spring so hard it hurts a bit to stop it slipping, but it does work fairly easily this way.
Sony Greece does not support the Fix And Replace thing on their site so this video just saved me a lot of time and a lot of calls on customer support. thank you
@Username I thought of calling Sony's customer support but I don't know what to say to them. Hello my controller's R2 busted out of nowhere what can we do about it? Idk seems kinda weird to me. I'll try to contact with the shop I bought my ps5 if my 4 years warranty includes controller fix or replace
@Username I forgot to mention that until now my DIY fix with the help of this video is doing a pretty solid work and I even replaced it with a stronger wire to be safe. I think it's even better than the original in terms of smooth button pushing and the adaptive triggers option
@Username well seems like we are (not in a bad way) stuck with our DIY options
Thanks, this did the trick! Ended up replacing both springs. L2 was a serious pain to fit in there, but now the triggers both feel great!
any technique for the l2?
@@crispyG Unfortunately it's been long enough that I don't remember the exact technique, but I did have someone help and it was a bit easier with two pairs of hands. Also use the thinnest set of tweezers you can find
I literally can’t get it on the L2 and I’ve been trying for 30 mins 😂
Thank you so much for the tutorial. It’s a shame it’s such a common problem but at least there’s a quick fix. Much appreciated
Quick fix?? Hahahahahahahah
You’re a legend! I found this video, ordered a controller repair kit on amazon, returned to the video a few days later, and used it to fix my controller in roughly 10 minutes! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. My R2 button was busted and had no resistance. I found your guide, managed to get a pack of 10 springs on Amazon for 7 dollars CAD and I already have a precision screw driver set. I didn't have a pry tool so I just used a flat 2mm head like you did. Once I opened it up, I found the broken spring near the bottom of the controller. The only tricky part was getting the spring in. Had to use both my precision screwdriver to keep it in place with the 2mm head to move the spring arm into place. Got it after about the 5th try. I was about to buy another controller and your guide saved me. Overall this took about 15 minutes to do. Thank you so much!
Played almost 0 games on my PS5 without mnk since I got it. Then A couple of weeks of Hell Let Loose toasted my R2. Good tutorial. Used to take apart and mod DS3 and old 360 controllers for friends when I was younger. This swill be a piece of cake, thanks👍🏼
Dying light 2 ruined my r2 adaptive trigger 😂 .. it only works occasionally now, L2 still works just fine everytime
@@alexgaming9101 at least it’s the R2
You saved me alot a money, used my DS4 spring until my DS5 springs arrived from eBay, arrived in a pack of 5 so I’ll be good for a while now, thanks bro this video very easy to follow and informative, will be recommending this to everyone!
Thank you so much!
Perfect guide. Thanks dude. I thought my trigger spring had dislodged as I couldn't hear any parts rattling around, but alas, it was broken. Just popped open an old PS4 controller and swapped the spring over. Hardest part was aligning the two black prongs either side of the touch pad on reassembly as they're very easy to misalign. Just be careful with that part.
Otherwise I'm happy to have fixed it. Sure, I could and should have sent it back to Sony, but lockdown is making that really hard to do. Plus I'm sure they'd just send me a brand new one anyway, so this feels a little less wasteful.
so i have this problem now if i send it back to sony would that mean i would get a brand new controller because of the warranty?
I’m here every 6 months. My spring keeps snapping. At least I can keep replacing them thanks to your video lol
Don't use PS5 spring, look for PS4 ones
Holy shit... I had to put apart my Dualshock to get the spring out of that to place it inside the Dualsense. After I put the faceplate back on a surge of happiness and satisfaction overcame me. I've never done anything regarding fixing or something alike. I feel so happy!! Thank you
Found out the issue was that the ribbon cable was loose but the video teardown was great, thanks
Thanks for this how to. Fixed 2 controllers with this issue. You just saved me $100. Almost just bought a new controller.
Thanks! The DualSense is so cheaply built it’s insane...
Thank you soooo much I recently broke my spring and it was hella depressing
Thanks heaps. I had 4 DS4 controllers lying around so I stole 2 springs of one of em. Saved me paying for a new Dualsense.
I knew I shouldn’t throw my ds4s away, now I’m gonna replace this thing, thanks for a great vid ma man
Thank you! This just happened to my controller, and Sony refused to fix it. Simple repair :)
this happened within only two days of me playing... sony needs to fix this
It happened to me in like 2 months
Do this help for u guys or have i need to buy a new one
It works but you have to open the controller and buy replacement springs it works as long as your careful
@@AtomicLegend oké thx
First of all - if ANYONE has this, it’s too soon. It’s only April and the console only came out 5 months ago. I bought mine in February. It’s already broken. So 2 months of very light gaming. I have a kid and a full time job so I’m not gaming like a teenager for 6 hours a day- but even if I was (and I used to!) no console in my life has this ever happened even dating back to Nintendo systems and I used to throw those things.
I expect free replacement very quickly with no postage costs given it’s a known fault or flaw of the controller.
Ps great video man. It helped me take it apart east with no issue. Yeah my spring is just straight up missing and I can hear it rattle inside but I’m not touching it anymore it’s going back.
PPS to take off the shoulder buttons very easy, just hold down the triggers and get in from back there.
Thanks easy fix i though i need to take the hole thing out to reach the spring
Just encountered this problem with my new controller because of too much Elden Ring. Salamat for the guide!
Thanks man. This is way less intimidating than I originally thought. Comes apart pretty easy too.
This video didn’t help my exact problem but with this I noticed the issue so thank you
Bro you are my saviour, my L2 broke but i dont even know how to fix that then i search this tutorial and and i can say this is the easiest to understand compared to the others. I would give you 1 million likes if i could, cheers!!
Bro, how did you fix the L2? I've been trying for the longest time and can't get it.
Hello good, I am from Spain and I would like to make your video in my language so that more people can see this, so it reaches more people, I will also put that you are the one who taught it.
Glad to help bro. Please link this video and my channel to that and let everyone know to suppot my channel please. Thanks!
Thank you, just fixed my 6 month old DS5 in 15 mins with the use of your video. Cheers!
15 mins my ass. You mean 15 hours.
Legend bro. I used a spring from one of my older ds4 controls and now works like a new control again.
Thank you so much for this video. Incredibly helpful and was so glad to see that I wasnt the only one with this issue. Spent an easy $7 and 20 mins to fix this. Saved me $70
Hi there, that's a super helpful video! I've already had the controller replaced once while I was playing Days Gone my r2 just stopped working. I got a replacement but even that controllers r2 died this week while playing horizon zero. Fml. It's been 2 controllers in 3 months. Wondering if this is covered by the Sony warranty still. Just a tad bit too anxious that I may mess something up while replacing the spring!
Thanks for the tutorial man! Buying a new dualsense controller in Brazil is out of question! 😅😅
Legend, thank you for the clear instructions and video. Fixed R2 with this and some springs from eBay.
I just replaced my L2 spring. It's also pretty easy if you remove the battery and the PCB. Just be careful with the ribbon cables. There are many teardown videos that show how to safely take it apart.
What's the pcb?
@@rossgipps PCB stands for Printed Circuit Board. This is the green board in the controller, under the battery. All components of the controller are soldered on it or connected to it with cables.
Thank you for the review it helped me a lot, my r2 button was so sensitive turned up my spring had gone so replaced it with my PS4 one but it doesn’t seem as tight as it used to be
Big thank you!! I just replaced the spring with a DS4, and done!
This helps even to this day! Fixed the R2 buttons on my two controllers just now. Thank you again!
Ohhh, so helpful. That's brilliant, you're right the new spring hasn't got as much tension as the old one, but we know it's fixed and works better. Very grateful for your guide. 😀
Tried it out myself and have to say its fairly straightforward and easy
thanks for the video!
Happened to me while playing Maneater, will order a couple springs and rewatch this vídeo later
Same! Got the platinum but at what cost :(
for me it happened while playing watch dogs legion
Digital or fisical copy?
thank you for this vid. and now I see why they send you 10 of them (got mine on amazon) only lost 3 of them to them flying away when the bottom wouldnt latch.
Hahaha
Thank you sooo much, I felt how it got loose and got really worried but I used my ds4 controller springs and now it feels really good ❤❤
Just fixed my r2 trigger without buying the spring. All you need is zip tie, cut zip tie using a side cutter. Make sure to cut it as thin as the slots that way when u press r2 zip tie won’t come off. Noticed that r2 has more tension now after using zip tie.
Just fixed my controller. Thank you so much. Those springs are gonna break sooner or later because they are too thick.
So, did this fix the adaptive triggers??, or did it just apply done tendon on the triggers
I just fixed mine like 20 minutes ago it feels nice
Thank you good sir 👍
Thank you this saved me $70 on top of that I was forced to get a bundle deal with my PS5. This was supposed to be the extra controller good I had two I guess n I ordered ps5 springs feels identical to new.
Amazing video. Very disturbed by my R2 button which wasn't reacting as previously. With your help, all is fixed now. Great job !
I found it easier to remove the battery, I heated up a small Philips screwdriver and and pushed it into the plastic peg that the spring goes round, this way I could keep the screwdriver in place to prevent the spring bouncing off while I used a watch strap tool with a v groove to bring the spring arm up to the locater clip,
Thanks, great video helped me fix my L2 broken spring. The hardest part was putting the controller back together lol
I think they added the Dualshock 4 v2 springs on the new color versions of the Dualsense. I opened my new Dualsense and it had the Dualshock 4 v2 springs. They are thicker though.
My dualsense also the new batch (the purple one). I opened my dualsense and it's also the same with the DS 4 V2. So that's why i feel the trigger a bit weak? Should i change it to the dualsense version (the straight one)?
Sir, you really helped me out. Have you ever thought about doubling the springs up, just to have a reserve spring already installed on standby or do you think it will make the trigger that much harder to press? You got a sub if you respond?
I thought about that but it wont fit on the plastic holder and it might actually just cause it to breal due to too much resistance. 1 spring is enough. Mine works wonder since then
Finally got this fixed thanks to you, though mine was on the L2 was quite tricky to get on, thanks for the video!
Glad it helped!
How you do on L2?
@@psxgaming5089 Exactly the same process however the part where you put the spring is on the inside of the trigger which makes it a little harder to get on
So, do the adaptive triggers work now??
I've got the same problem but thankfully here in Canada you get a one year warranty. After a year, this tutorial will be valuable though as I expect that this very cheaply made controller will break again since I've only had it three months.
Thanks man! just used my old ps4 spring on my PS5 controller and its usable again.
Hi Glenn, rewatched your video and it changed my mind. Ordered the springs from Lazada and also DIY'd my dualsense springs. I even changed both L2 and R2. Thanks!
That's awesome! mine is still working perfectly still so DS4 springs is really good. Hope yours last too!
Thank you for posting this video, this has happened to my Dualsense controller and I did not want to have to buy a replacement.
Yup. 100% helpful and saved me from thinking I had to buy a new one.
Had my R2 break within 2 weeks playing cyberpunk. I thought I felt the adaptive triggers activating a wee bit while shooting and the spring snapped. Seems the exact same springs as the DualShock 4 are used and I won’t be surprised if all the extra vibrations makes them snap regularly
It's not using the exact same spring of the ds4. Thats actually the reason why it snaps. The ds4 ones are more flexible and has a good design compared to the thick and stiff stock spring of ps5.
@@GlennThoughts Well they appear identical. Can’t see why they wouldn’t carry over such a tiny and simple part. Plus I took apart an old PS4 controller, took out the spring, managed to stick in in my dualsense and it’s now indistinguishable from my other dualsense controller.
Thank you so much, this has happened to the first two controllers that I got with the system, and I just bought a third one instead of trying to fix it, but I've just ordered the springs and hopefully I'll be able to restore them when they come in, I'll be back :)
i just bought a new and return the broken one in the box of the new one
Where exactly did you do that? And did the new box not have the serial key of the new one?
@@OwlMetal I did at Best Buy
No the box doesn’t have any numbers written on it
That's actually genius.
@@OwlMetal hey my controller also have same issue . Will amazon refund if i do ur trick pls reply dude
Lmfao that’s what Ima do
thanks fixed my one just now dropped my controller many times but if it lands on the r2 l2 RIP to the spring! got 4 as i know they will break kinda sad they used these types vs the ps4 ones never broke any for those and threw the controller around
Jupp, perfect, worked. My heart stopped 2 times when I took off the cover and I thought I just broke it, but everything was fine.
Wonder where you got so many springs from, found only 2 for ~3€, but I think it's fine.
Thanks for the good video!
Exactly what was needed and I really appreciate you putting it back together as the face plate was getting on my nerves haha 😅
This was very helpful, got mine fixed in no time, just need to get a better spring like he said its not the exact same after
Good to know this is out there! Is there an updated spring for the dualsense ps5 now in 2024?
Not sure. It'a possible
Thanks man. Yeah changing them for the ps4 springs makes sense. You get longer life span from it and it doesn’t hinder the experience too much
I just opened it and yeah it was broken. I just ordered some Dualsense springs from amazon. Thanks seems an easy fix
Thank you so much for this one of my controllers had this problem and my other one has a r3 drag, good to know I don’t need to spend 70 dollars on a new one 😂
Spot on found my issue ordered new springs.
Thanks. Helped so much as couldn't work out how to get the srping to bend round wothout popping out
this is really helpful but I'm not comfortable opening up my dual sense and break more parts so I'd just go to a Sony service center and have them fix it.
Works like a charm! Thanks! Btw I found easier to remove the R1 and L1 buttons from below by depressing their corresponding “2’s”
Wow dude. Ya really saved me . Deserve a sub. Yeah would think next-gen console controllers would be better
Thanks bro!
Fantastic tutorial bro! Only advice I’d offer people is that L2 is way way!!!!!! Harder to fix than R2!! Be patient & make sure you’re prepared with thin tweezers! 🎮
ASTROS PLAYROOM DID THIS
It was god of war for me
Astro for me too!! specifically the monkey suit climbing part of the game 😅
Very good tutorial with explanations of other side stuff that explains in detail the issue at hand.
Dude this video is perfect thank you so much! Doing this as a right handed was a nightmare!!
Big like dropped. Super straightforward and clear instructions.
My bros ds5 just broke and i got him the ps5 as a gift, gonna fix it for him, thanks!
Hey man thank you for the help. I do have a small opening for the black case part but otherwise its functional
It worked! Thanks for the help I’ve been trying to find a video that’s helpful. thanks !
Thanks so much for this tutorial. Broke my R2 playing battlefield 5 screaming with my friends. 😂
hey thanks, man for the quick tip I used an old switch controller spring and it works great. like you said you can feel the difference but others won't know lol
Great video I just fixes my controller same issue using this method and spring I bought online
He man, just wanted to say thank you for the video. Was really easy to follow and understand, had this issue with both the controllers that came with my console, both R2 buttons went within a year of having the console. Just took apart an old broker PS4 controller and used both the springs in there to fix my ps5 pads, was super easy thanks to this video!
Thank you for the video, managed to fix one of my dualsense. 🤝
Omg lad you’ve saved me thanks a lot mate I wish you a successful life
Thank you for the video, I just save myself from a expensive $70 controller
great vid dude! I found it way easier to place the bottom part of the spring first and then fold the other side into the L2/R2 button since I have pretty big hands. The old spring had splintered in half. Cheap shit sony!
My L2 is what snapped, and I have yet to find a replacement spring that is rigid enough to not also feel like it has basically no tension. They really dropped the ball with these controllers.
