Hakuho is the most impressive genius of a single sport I have ever seen.
The Michael Jordan Of Sumo. The Pele of Sumo. The Babe Ruth of Sumo.
He didn't win just because he was big or strong or balanced. He won because he had a deep understanding of the sport.
He defeated some challengers just by looking at them with deathlust.
He could psych out anyone who wasn't prepared to defeat a true legend, before the hands touched the ground.
He's my favorite athlete of all time. Anytime he lost was worth throwing chairs. Pillow chairs!
Because he was so good, he had so few challengers.
They earned their names for fighting him.
He earned his by pure conquest.
    They are not the same.
    Hakuho is the Sumo Hercules.
Not always a hero, but always a legend.

I don't think you can fully appreciate just how technical and cerebral Hakuho was unless you've practiced martial arts, particularly grappling arts, yourself. Both fighters are such beasts in terms of raw speed and strength. But so often Hakuho won the toughest battles with supreme technical skill or simply playing the chess game better. Such a legend.

They're both such great athletes... I feel like a lot of Teru's wins come from finding out how to best Hakuho's most used techniques and then surprising him with a new strategy, and most of Hakuho's wins come from just being so damn good at his defenses and turning any momentum into a weakness if Teru doesn't take that one thing into account. There's a reason their matches against each other take so much longer than some others. More than 10-15 seconds per bout? That's a really good match there.

I'm a noob to this sport I've only been following it for a year but watching these last three tournaments I think Hakuho will win. His sumo just seems more rounded and I think he's more aggressive and uses his Mobility better but anything could happen on the day.
P.s I'd rather Terunofuji won then he will have taken the baton of the master I think it will make future tournaments a lot more spicy and interesting!

Nov. 2015 was such a long bout,
People could only acuse them of playing to the crowd.
    Hakuho gave the win.
Only after the longest championship bout in history, did he LET the other man walk him out.
Then watch him twist the next three out the ring like they didn't have names.
    He is a phenom

However it turns out I believe Terinofugi deserves being promoted to Yokozuna.

In addition, he often resorted to slaps and elbow smashes, which are ill suited to yokozuna. He lacked grace and class to be called a great yokozuna. Teru has been quite the opposite as a yokozuna, and you wouldn't hesitate to call him a great yokozuna.

  • @ChimeraActual
    @ChimeraActual Před měsícem

You can see a bit of why JSA has a problem with Hakuho in the last match. He just had to add that last push to Teru after he's already out of the ring; happened too often. Then there's that smug half smile you always see after he wins a close match, and when he lost one, you could sense him denying his opponent's skill and strength.
It's shocking what has happened to him recently, but apparently JSA doesn't like bullies.
