This line-up of Rainbow features the legendary Ronnie James Dio on vocals - he went on to sing with Black Sabbath and have a highly successful solo career. He is considered by many to be the archetypal Metal singer and is without doubt one of the greatest ever. He also gave Metal its instantly recognisable hand gesture 🤘

Awesome reaction. I don't think I've seen you two smile so much. Rainbow was one of the most talented bands ever. Blackmore's guitar and Dio's vocals are a powerhouse.
Welcome to Rainbow! One of my favorite bands with such great talent with Ritchie Blackmore (guitarist), Ronnie James Dio (Vocals), Cozy Powell (Drums), Jimmy Bain (Bass), & Tony Carey (Keyboard). Some considered them a super group because how legendary Blackmore, Dio and Cozy were. "Stargazer" is epic and some (like myself) see this as one of the best rock songs ever made. "Catch the Rainbow', "Gates of Babylon", "Temple of the King", "Man on the Silver Mountain", "Long Live Rock n Roll" and many other great song. They have live concert footage from the 1977 Munich concert which is exceptional. The songs "Mistreated", "Catch the Rainbow" & "16th Century Greensleeves" really shine.
Cosy Powell brilliant drummer died young too.

The guitar player (Ritchie Blackmore) was in Deep Purple together with the singer of Whitesnake (David Coverdale), who you reacted to yesterday. I recommend to listen to Mistreated, that you can hear from both singers, Coverdale with Deep Purple (California Jam) and Ronnie James Dio with Rainbow (Munich 1977).
The legendary British guitarist Ritchie Blackmore was a founder member of Deep Purple. He had the equally legendary singer Ian Gillan (see Child in Time) and when he left got David Coverdale (you've seen him on Still of the Night). After he left Purple he formed Rainbow (Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow) and had another singing genius Ronnie Dio (you've seen Stargazer). Try any Blackmore, Coverdale, Gillan or Dio - you will get quality.

In the seventies you had several great guitar players like Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Alvin Lee and some such. But one stood above all the rest and that was Ritchie Blackmore. Played with Deep Purple until 1975 and then formed his own band Rainbow in 1975. "Stargazer" is from 1976's "Rainbow Rising".

I bought this album in the 70s. I was in my 20s, I am 71 now. Remember it well.
I met Dio 3 times. He told me that he loved singing for his fans , and it really showed when he was on stage.
Ronnie!!! Next to Freddie the best singer of all time. And Blackmoore... one of the best guitarist of all time. This song is a masterpiece btw 😂

One of my absolute favorite band. I can't count the times I listened to their albums in my life. "One Stage" is the one of best live album ever in my opinion...and I do not even want to start talking about "Catch the rainbow" which is a phenominal song. There is a version in YT of "Still I am sad" which lasts for almost 30 minutes...

the rainbow lead guitarist was (ritchie blackmore) who was the lead guitarist in a band called (Deep purple). the singer who has sadly moved on, RIP named Ronnie James Dio was in a band previously called (Elf). to me he had an absolutely amazing voice. i have listened to loads of great guitarists and (my) 2 favourites are (ritchie blackmore) above & Dave gilmore out of Pink floyd. The singer Ronnie james dio was half italian & half american

His vocals were not only legendary, his song writing skillset were leagues above anyone who came before or after him! BTW Richie typically plays his solos using that Arabic scale. NOTE: The 2nd part of this song is entitled "A Light in the Black", check it out (Richie's solo in that session is mind blowing & of course Ronnie shines as always)…Thanks for the decades of memories Ronnie, and for you both for show-casing and appreciating the music we grew up on. You need to listen to A Light in the Black now, it’s the follow up to the story in this song and it rocks twice as hard as Stargazer….together they are perfect.

I found you via your Nightwish reactions & greatly enjoy you discovering the music I grew up on.
FYI: Rainbow were formed by legendary guitarist Richie Blackmore in 1975 after he left Deep Purple. The singer is another rock legend, Ronnie James Dio. He sang for a band called Elf who a supported band for Deep Purple on Tour. Ronnie went on to sing for Black Sabbath, following the departure of Ozzy Osbourne, before forming his own band, Dio. Another long term member of Rainbow was yet another rock legend, drummer Cozy Powell.
Richie Blackmore was known to be a perfectionist & hard task master, infamously sacking many band members, particularly bass players & keyboard players, so Rainbow's lineup was seldom stable. Unfortunately, Ronnie & Cozy have both passed away.
I was lucky enough to see Rainbow when they headlined the first Monsters of Rock one day festival at Donnington, here in The UK in 1980 (The Scorpions & a very young Bon Jovi also played). Rainbow's lineup then was: Richie Blackmore (guitar), Graham Bonnet (Vocals), Cozy Powell (Drums), Don Airy (Keys) & former Deep Purple band mate, Roger Glover (bass).

A bit late to the party here, but in case anyone is interested, the solo was performed in the B Phrygian dominant scale, which gives it that almost hypnotic Byzantine feel.
Also, the solo mimics the story, with the long ascending part depicting the wizard climbing the tower, and ending with him falling to his death.
Unbelievable.

He discovered one of the greatest rock vocalists Ronnie James Dio who later made a great career in Black Sabbath and his solo band Dio. Crikey you are going way back, these were my first rock band when I was a, kid, I had all rainbows records, along with Deep purple Ritchie Blackmore the guitarist from Deep purple formed Rainbow. Stargazer actually follows on with a light in the black which picks up the story. The b side of the LP were just these two tracks, I am showing my age, a blast from the past, I've never outgrown rock or metal though. Iove your reactions you compliment each other perfectly, I've missed a few out lately because for some reason I just don't like Rammstein, my son used to play them loud in his bedroom and I used to have system of a down on in the living room, poor neighbours it was before we had a detached house as well. 🇬🇧

I've been following your journey since your first Rammstein reaction. Meanwhile I ignore the other reactions, because your wave has also become mine (or has been before).
Rainbow were very myth and magic at the beginning of their set up.
When I first listened to the album and this song in particular, I was somewhat ashamed that it took me more than 30 years to discover it.
Although I know many people will disagree with me, I consider this the first true heavy metal album. All examples prior to this sound like me more like classic hard rock. This however feels like it ties old style music to modern heavy metal.
you should check out 'Light in the Black' from the same album. It's the sequel to the story he is telling

From "Deep Purple" to "Rainbow" is a continuum what many bands/artists have had carried on, with dreamy story telling, like from Iron Maiden to Nightwish.
With your own time I suggest to check out a freshly released documentary about the singer Ronnie James Dio : "Dio : Dreamers Never Die" (2022) who was a recording singer/artist a way before the Beatles since 1958. A legend who made things by his means.
Such a freakin cool track of choice to react to. Keep on rockin with this magical band, as well you have done with Nightwish.

The song was all about an (OVERLORD) who was using his ancient slaves to build a tower of stone. Like the (tower of babel). so that he could climb to the top and jump off to fly but he crashed to the ground. i think the song had an (egyptian theme) in the music

Dio was just a fantastic singer, and apparently a really nice bloke too. My favourite is his work with Black Sabbath but you can't really go wrong with him if you like the mythic storytelling. Blackmore I am more conflicted about - he's a good guitarist, but not so good at interpersonal stuff (he upset a lot of his old Deep Purple bandmates and to a lesser extent Dio) and I can't really see him objectively, which is a shame. Still worth listening to, though!

Rising was in my opinion Rainbow's best Album that they released. Every Track on the LP is great, just a great Album!
(Ok, the first Album is also great and the Live "On Stage" as well!)

Really it was impossible to find a performance with a live sound, and not this - from the studio album. Well, it’s clear that he couldn’t sing like that live. Personally, my attitude to such installation is purely negative. Because it's a scam. Making idiots out of people.
