- This is my reaction, analysis and breakdown of Mariah Carey’s great performance of her hit song Make it Happen, Live Madison Square Garden 1995 from her iconic album “Emotions,”. This high energy performance featured some powerful mixed belts, bouncy phrasing, and some lovely runs. You can hear in the way she articulates each phrase that this is a bouncy pop song. I love the way she accents certain notes, and clips many of them rather than making the phrases long and connected.
I really enjoy Mariah’s performance and the energy she brings to this song. There’s so much happiness in her face as she’s singing and dancing, obviously having fun. LOVING the gospel choir and the great sounds we’re getting. She’s super bright and forward but not too nasally.

This was live but this performance was dubbed, however whats crazy is the undubbed version was basically EXACTLY the same, in fact many consider the undubbed version of this performance her best performance in her career due to her stamina, breath control, agility, resonance, and power she displayed in the performance and making it ALL SEEM EFFORTLESS.
I always prefer her undubbed ones. I need to hear all the breaths and imperfections just a tiiiny bit!❤

Speaking of MC's speaking voice, she recently appeared on Jimmy Fallon show and her speaking voice there sounds soooo good. She even did a short book-reading and her voice sounded very captivating I can't even explain
Omg that's so true. Even her speaking voice is unique. I love how she can imitate some people like when she imitated Aretha, it was so on point. What can't she do with her voice. Mariah is a vocal goddess even when she speaks.
The dubbing was to amplify her volume because the crowd was so LOUD!

This one is not fully live but the live parts are so good like in through the rain one from the same show, she goes into deep notes that are not in the recorded version that are so good! Love them

First of all: Mariah in her best shape in my personal opinion. incredible. Second: Great analysis! Some might hate, how you chop up the video, but I love how you not only dissect all the nitty gritty details, but are even able to reproduce and demonstrate them! (and I’m such a fresh way). Btw her belts at minute 14:00 are belts not head voice, shes just sooo resonant up there she makes it sound like that. She hit an F5 with those belts tho, if it were head voice it wouldnt be nowhere near as powerful, being as she has hit F5s in head voice and it doesnt sound like that, nobody can make their head voice sound that strong lol.
This live was dubbed for some parts but the crazy thing is....the undubbed is literally much better than this. I don't get why they did dubbing for certain parts.
Look at the undubbed (it's available on here) it's incredible!! The agility, tone, stamina and resonance was A1.

I think sometimes it can be an audio issue, how much of the audience you wanna hear, mariah and choir audio levels. Dubbing let’s you control all of that.

Most of the time it's little sections that are dubbed for her (not the entire song) and it's for many different reasons.
Haters are always using it as some joke or to say she can't sing live. That's not the case. She has many perfect live performances.
1. Her songs are harder than anybody else's. I'd like to see them and their fav nail her arrangements to the T time after time (&she's had those annoying nodules since the start) 🙄
2. Sometimes she would hit her notes but she was really raspy (nodules)..so she cleaned it up a bit. But she SANG.
3. Poor audio needs to be cleaned up before using sh*t commercially. She's not the only one who did it/ who's doing it.

I actually prefer her earlier versions of this power ballad during the debut & _Emotions_ era when she was explosive with sheer power & energy.
She's more refined throughout the mid-90s.
There's one raw footage in black and white showing her singing the "unsingable" _Lead the Way_ melisma. There are also some breakdown videos showcasing the notes she pushed out with the complexity & speed.

There is a version of "Lead the way" covered by Gabriel Henrique, a Brazilian singer. He is phenomenal. You should give it a try. He has been covered a lot of songs by Mariah by the way. I think you'll like it.

There is a version of this concert that is not dubbed and she sounds exactly the same, but you can hear the audience and it’s distracting so they dubbed it

April-May is great!! It’s festival season and there’s lots of music. The fall (sept-October) is also good. I wouldn’t come during the summer because it’s really hot and not as much to do

HI, check out "the hottest band in town" with Judith Durham. A few years ago now but the lady can sing.
Yes its Dubbed like every dvd release anyway but they overdid it at 90s with the polish.. they didn't changed too many things but they polished the sound,the normalized the sounds,killed some crowd yelling etc.. I don't like dubbing and polishing cause everytime they do that they kill bits of the soul of the performance... those tiny imperfection that makes the live performance so magical. the raw footage exists and its or par if not even better than the dvd version ofc the quality of the sound is not that good... for example at vision of love she did it 2 times cause the messed the ending and afterwards at the editing they took the best parts of the 2 performances and made a perfect one.. this concert is one of her most perfect of her career cause she knew that she could re done everything if she wanted.. it was a concert for making a dvd.thats why she is relaxed and confident. and ofc she was at her peak of her voice and career. but I miss that her voice became very bright and whiter than her earlier years. i think she is more relaxed,confident and sure about her uper belts but her tone for my taste is not that good like at her first 2 years of her career.. not dark and soulful still beautiful in a different way though. Lead the Way takes a lot more reasonable effort to hold the looooong notes and her background vocals are almost nonexistent. So it's all her.

I am just as disappointed that there is no life version of lead the way. And it's the same with the rest soundtrack of "Glitter". I think it's the song with the highest note in all o Mriah's audios so maybe I just ask a lot. Ever when I hear it her voice is so clear and powerful that I immediately lower the sound.
