  • drivencarreviews.com/ The Toyota Camry is the best selling car in America and has been for some time. For 2012 there's a new one. During development, Toyota listened very carefully to owners. If you think they were asking for radical change, well then, you don't know the mind of a Camry owner. Tom Voelk attends the press event in Portland, Oregon.

    Just bought a new Camry SE with navigation and entune for 23k. Say what you want, but it is one hell of a car for the money. 30 mpg average, 2 years free maintenance, and unmatched resale value. A similarly equipped Hyundai or Kia ran 27k, and in 3 years, it will be worth half of it's current msrp.

    @tdh0230 I can't mention everything but you'll notice I always shoot the area where back vents (and power port) would be so a view can figure it out on their own. It's like the shot of the interior where I show that there's a tilt/telescope wheel. I show it but don't talk about it. Call it video shorthand.

    Yes I am aware, considering my last car was an '08 Accord V6. I just think it's funny how it "almost" handles as good as the Accord, despite being direct competition.

    @jvrdlc I did not notice excessive torque steer, there's a little but that's expected from a powerful front drive car.
    Not sure what you mean by too heavy for the tires it has. Optima could use a little more grip, the tires aren't super sticky in hard cornering. That's a job for Tire Rack.
    No reason why it wouldn't do well with winter tires, most people don't install them. The ground clearance might be a little low but with traction control and Blizzak tires, things should be good.

    I test drove a 2014 camry SE a few weeks ago, i know most wouldn't seem too excited but the second i drove it i loved it! it handles better than i expected and is comfortable and it rides smooth! This is the only bodystyle i like. The previous generation looks plain and outdated. But this has come to be one of my personal favorites!

    @jvrdlc yes its true you don't buy a car based on looks but looks has a big part in deciding on which car to buy. Also kia are also reliable my mom has a 2007 sportage with almost 80000 miles and she never has had any problems with it.

  • @DrivenCarReviews
    @DrivenCarReviews  Před 12 lety

    @jvrdlc Ride quality quality and design I'll leave up to your personal choice, you should test drive them if you're thinking about buying. Price? Sonata or Optima. Standard features? Depends on model. Honestly, the best way to find what's right for you is to drive them and then do a "build and price" on their websites. They are all VERY good these days.
    Can't tell you about the Altima and Accord, info is embargoed until after Detroit. I'm driving Malibu this weekend. Review coming...

    @DrivenCarReviews thank you sir. i like the sonata, but i saw a blog from Consumer Reports about the Sonata Turbo pulling to the right. did you notice any difference? it was also mentioned from Hyundai that they were going to fix the problem. they recommended the 4cyl only.
    but i have a question on the Optima. and im not saying i know it, but it looks like the car is too heavy for the tires its got. do you think the car will handle good in the snow with a good set of winter tires?

  • @Diginanda
    @Diginanda Před 12 lety +1

    The name "Camry" is an Anglicized phonetic transcription of the Japanese word kanmuri (冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown in 1955, continuing with the Toyota Corona and Corolla; the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. (Thank you Wikipedia)

  • @oldtwins
    @oldtwins Před 12 lety +1

    Quite amazing how the interior has improved so much. That was the major gripe with the former model, cheapish American quality. Now has changed to true Japanese quality. Powertrains were more than adequate - the 4 banger is smooth and frugal while the 3.5 will outrun many so-called "sport cars" out there.

    I bought my white 13 Camry SE 4 cyl. in June 2013 after selling my 08 Altima SL. I did not like the Altima's CVT and wanted a "regular" transmission. With 8k miles on it now, I can say this is the best car I have bought. The 6 speed transmission is SMOOTH and the styling with the vampire rear end is sweet. The manual calls for oil/ filter changes every 10k, air/ cabin filter changes every 30k, coolant at 100k and spark plugs at 120k. so it's easy to maintain. My only complaint is that the paint is cheap as hell so get a bra and a bottle of touchup paint!

    i really like the new interior, much better than the bland outgoing model. this one has a lot more. but again, its not that stylish specially if you compare it to the Sonata or Optima. but the rest is great, now best in class fuel economy on the hybrid. The Altima is coming soon with the new redesign, and the Accord as well. i will wait and see how the others are going to come out. then ill decide which Family sedan to buy.

    Oh please people saying Altima is better. Get real. Camry is on Top for good reason. Altima has always been a great car with few major issues (engine 3rd generation). but Camry is very different from Altimas. Toyota is simply a better BRAND than Nissan and puts out better products as a Whole. When was the last time you counted ALL of the Top Of The Line Reliable vehicles Toyota has in their lineup. Nissan isn't even Close.

    I can't see too many "old" people doing 0-60 in 6 seconds, caring about Entune, or using the rev matching paddle shifters, all of which the Camry SE V6 has. That is a pretty aggressive car that will outperform its turbo 4 competitors that have the zig zag tacky styling. Give me one of these over the others any day. It ain't just for the old folks anymore, although there is a model or two for them as well.

    @BoiiGorg3ous I know. A friend hates toyotas period and prefers chevy over any Toyota. But really, the choice of his transportation is a pickup truck. And with gas prices $4.00+ it's not a smart move. And also he brought a Hyundai over a Toyota. So I guess your right about that part too. I dont hate chevrolet but the cars they make either take alot of gas or break down alot.

  • @ytj22
    @ytj22 Před 12 lety +1
