    Adventure creator for Unity looks soooo goood and easy. It also has more potential then the Visionaire Studio Engine (that engine that Dedalic is using for Games like Edna and Deponia). Because it works together with Unity. So the possibilities are endless. And it supports allmost all type of Adventures -- 2d from old retro Pixel to highres) /2.5D and 3D Adventures (like Telltale) Very easy to learn. You only need about 2-3 Hours as a Newbe to learn how to do a classic 2D scene from scratch. Truly amazing stuff.

    As we speak I'm hammering out a game in AGS for a jam, and the deeper I get into it the more dated the program seems. I'm going to stick with AGS this time, because I'm aiming for an early 90s kind of thing anyway, but I'll definately look into AC for Unity for future projects.

      Datadog Yes, agreed! It's a major pain switching everything over... I had over 40 rooms done in AGS, and this summer I've only transfered over about 10 into Adventure Creator, but most of that reason is due to going back to the art assets and improving them, and separating each of the graphics elements to get them ready for parallax scrolling, etc. But the final product looks fantastic, with the cameras, depth and scrolling, so it's totally rewarding to go through the trouble and see everything improve so much. :)

      Isaac Lundgren Artist Composer How thats amazing. I bet doing all the animations for each angle is a pain in the ass

    • @ArtistComposer
      @ArtistComposer  Před 8 lety

      +El rincon de obey, thanks! Figuring out a process, and experimenting with a variety of assets was the most time consuming part. Now that I have some methods that work well for me, it's not too bad. I do have to create the character at all the angles (that part is time consuming), with all the body pieces on separate layers -- but after that, it's not too much trouble to set up a simple 2D bone rigging system, and animate movements "puppet style" with flash-based key frame movements (then export frames as PNGs). The animation software I used is meant for vector based art, but I find it still works well with richer raster based graphics as well (to get more depth and shading)... The end result mimics hand drawn 2D animation, but made in about a tenth of the time with all the benefits and shortcuts of bone rigging. :)
      You can get a glimpse at the 2D bone rig system in this Adventure Creator tutorial I made earlier in the year.
      m.czcams.com/video/1_CLWnDNNZA/video.html
      It doesn't show you "how" to 2D bone rig, but you can at least catch a glimpse of the process in relation to this perticular character.

    • @ArtistComposer
      @ArtistComposer  Před 6 lety

      Hi Deadomen, all of my character animations are done with bone rigging and key frame animated with Moho Studio (pervious version Anime Studio Pro). I export the frames as PNG's before bringing them into Unity, and they work great! :)

      Aren't those usually exported in JSON or FBX format? I have been looking around different options for animating my characters and Spine seems to be the most popular option, but AC and Spine integration documentation is outdated. The latest comment, in AC forum, was from July that someone is, perhaps, working on it.

    • @ArtistComposer
      @ArtistComposer  Před 6 lety

      I haven't used JSON or FBX formats before... not sure what benefit it would add to go that route... I do know, if your graphics are rastor based, they really can be animated in anyway you like, and then exported from the animation program and brought into Unity as separate sprites/frames... try looking at my Adventure Creator 2D game getting started tutorial (here on CZcams). It will give you a glimpse as to how the frames are brought in to Unity/ Adventure Creator... (I've only ever brought sprites/ frames in as PNG's, I do know they can take other formats, just haven't tried other formats since PNGs have been working great for me).

    • @Deadomen123
      @Deadomen123 Před 6 lety

      FBX is vector format and PNG is pixel format. If you have multiple animations, FBX file would be smaller and having better performance, at least what I have read. Moho's feature list also suggest FBX format for Unity game developers on their site. Not sure about the benefits of having JSON, but most tools are using that format.

      +Somnivers The personal edition of Unity is free, which allows to create and sell your game, however once you reach $100k in sales they require you to purchase the professional edition of Unity... Can't remember the price on that - I believe it's in the low thousands. It's a fair model for indi-developers, giving them a chance to utilize the software and not taking a cut until it reaches a certain point in sales. I believe Adventure Creator is comparable to Visionaire Studio... Haven't used it, but from what I've seen/ read, they seem fairly similar.

      I don't have any experience with Visionair Studio personally, but from the little bit of research I've done in the past, the concepts with visual-based scripting should be pretty similar.
      One advantage with Adventure Creator, since it is a Plug-In to the Unity Game Engine, it can take advantage of everything else Unity has to offer... Such as Unity staying up-to-date with being able to export to the latest operating systems, and being able to work with many other 3rd party plug-ins and content packs that other contributors/ developers create for the Unity ecosystem. :)

    • @ArtistComposer
      @ArtistComposer  Před 6 lety +2

      Zero!
      Although logical thinking in general will help you design a great game, you can create an entire game from start to finish without typing a single line of code! Check out some of my other Adventure Creator getting started tutorial videos to see the visual node-based scripting in action.
      The editor does allow you to type out custom code/ scripts for even more minute control of the game, for me primarily as a visual artist, I have only used the visual node-based scripting and have found it more than adequate, and quite fast once you get used to navigating the drop-down menus.
      Hope that helps,
      Isaac

I love AGS, however, there are a lot of things that annoys me, namely the limited/non-intuitive way of animating stuff, changing or centering frames, its GUI, etc... so I was wondering if you could answered me some questions: 1st: Can I play videos with Adventure Creator? Can I loop a video, in different layers, in a room such as a river, or the clouds of the sky, easy, with the number of frames I desire? If I would perform a lot of zoom ins, what base resolution should I use? Is 720p enough? If I use objects in bigger resolution can I just change its size as I need it, easy? Is it easy to do different idle views, and speaking views, as it is with AGS? Is it easy to change the frames of a character animation, in the Adventure creator, if it is just a matter of centering the frames, without having to go to photoshop? Finally, Can I do all the some stuff I do with AGS, but more easier? Thanks :)

      Hello, Iboymusic, check out my other CZcams videos covering different aspects of Adventure Creator, I think it will answer many of your questions. I also have a Udemy course covering 2D Adventure Game creation... Adventure Creator is featured in a few of the sections in that course (I can send you a link and coupon code if you are interested).
      Adventure Creator has a bit of a learning curve, but once you’re over the curve it is a fantastic program, and takes full advantage of the Unity game engine. Personally I love using Adventure Creator, and find it much more intuitive than AGS, though if you are VERY familiar with AGS, you’ll have to “un-learn” a few ideas/concepts and be open minded about doing similar things in new ways. Personally I feel like I have so much more freedom putting a scene (room) together than with AGS, and I have never felt limited when trying to bring in new ideas into my game... at this point I would NEVER consider going back to AGS... I just love A/C way too much for that.

      +Pickle's Productions, it's a big learning curve coming from AGS... It took me two weeks to wrap my brain around the "new" way of doing things, and getting used to Unity... I must have went through the 2D game tutorial 6 times (pausing and rewinding constantly) before I felt comfortable working on any of my own projects..... But... After all of that, if you stick with it, you will love it, after 2 weeks I realized I would never look back at AGS, and was so excited with what Adventure Creator had to offer... Also, Chris Burton (the creator) is very active on the adventure creator forms, and many of the users are very supportive there when you run into a snag... I know what you're going through though, after my first day I thought the same thing, "Did I just waste $70?" Stick with it, give it the full two weeks of your attention, go through the 1.5 hour 2D game tutorial over and over until you get the confidence to start using your own graphical assets, I promise at that point, you'll love the program. :) (No I am not getting paid to write endorsements, I just love the program that much).

    • @ArtistComposer
      @ArtistComposer  Před 4 lety +1

      At the time of this video, AGS was the only reputable option to create adventure games... this video was made to show others who have only known AGS, that there indeed was another option, and it had a lot to offer. As for being able to compare something free to something that has a cost... the amount of time and frustration saved for me by switching to Adventure Creator easily makes up the 71 Eur cost a hundred times over... I am glad the creator of the software is being paid, he deserves to be so, it’s excellent. :)
