Making a game entirely out of clay in Unity with no experience (Adventure Creator)

- For my capstone project as a senior at NYU interactive media arts, I decided to explore the possibilities of clay as an interactive medium. This is some documentation of me making all the assets, and learning Unity and Adventure Creator with no experience with either. Does this count as a dev log??? (I don't know anything about games)
Here are some links to things I referenced in the video:

This lovely soundtrack is what I'll be using in the final game made by Noah Cote ( / noahcotee )
If you're wondering about the very cinematic rotating animation, that is the work of my pal Webb Hunt (www.instagram..... I 3D scanned my clay figure for fun and Webb was so kind to animate it spinning on a loop. Thanks Webb!

Your clay assets are a refreshing and unique change from the usual.
Thanks James!
Gorgeous gorgeous work! I'm going through the same adventure as you right now: building my own stop-motion point & click adventure game. There's not many of us out there as crazy as you or I, so I'm so excited to see your progress! I'd love to see how this has evolved, if you've continued on it at all, or what you're up to next!
this is really cool i was just trying to find a way to make a convincing digital way to make video game textures look like clay and stumbled on this, it super cool. i really like this i played the neverhood so much when i was a kid ive always loved that game.
Beautiful work, thanks for sharing. Makes me want to make my own.
The gliding looks like it's caused by the animations not being set to loop. You can also set the acceleration and deceleration of the navmesh agent so that it starts and stops immediately (an acceleration speed of more than 20 should be fine).
I was just coming to say that myself! But then again, it's been 6months, I'm sure Julia has figured it out by now ;)
This is the first time claymation and Unity come together! Your art is just brilliant!!!!!
neverhood is always my favorite game in the 90s.. not to mention clay fighter in the NES and Sega Genesis
WOW I had this same idea! Right down to using clay figures and unity3d with neverhood as my inspiration! But the only difference was that I was going to create the clay models then SCAN them in 3d then add rigs to them to allow them to walk within the 3d world.
This is amazing.
Wow! it's so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Been trying to get a point and click game made for like 2 years now 😅. Very inspiring to see you stay focused and actually finish what you set out to do. I like that you kept it small scale and accepted that it wasn't going to be perfect.
Amazing. I love handcrafted games like this. Yours is truly one of a kind. Thank you for showing your process and hardwork. Please finish the game.
Clay characters in a game remind me soo much a old Snes/N64 Game "ClayFigther", awesome work!
The claymation style looks soo great!! pls continue!!
How wonderful! I rarely comment however I love your goal driving you into and through. Your process is super endearing, so creative, just lovely seeing your sketchbook concept to result. Thank you for sharing 😊
I just discovered this video, what a gem. I love finding crazy talented people like you just randomly on CZcams. WOW
thanks egg!
Thank you so much for sharing! I also want to make games since I was young and it's been my biggest goal ever since. Seeing how you do it really makes me want to start learning it too👍
refreshing idea!
Amazing!
Super cute artwork for a game....like the style very much. Innovative way to override the shortcomings of 3d modelling. Keep it up.
Nice work! I’m a Neverhood fan too! :) Also been making point and clicks since 2005 and fiiinally upgrading my brain to Unity, just started learning Adventure Creator the past few weeks! Go us!
This are so amazing....omg....
This is fantastic. Really great work Julia.
This is so creative ! amazing
That is so cool! Love your idea and creative approach here!
Love it - what a journey
font is awesome
i freakin love claymation games. for anyone who wants to learn about some others: Harold Halibut (coming to gamepass next year), Vokabulantis, and Gob (i think this is just in the style of claymation but there's a cool demo on itch)
Yes so excited for Harold halibut!
Lol this is insane time consuming, never saw that technice is incredible haha, good job tbh, i'm super curious to see how it goes!
Wow, this was so cool to watch :o
This is amazing. I'm a non-coder a visual artist myself and I'm wrestling with Adventure Creator to try and make something interactive.
Thanks! I thought it would be hard since coding isn't really intuitive for me, but there are so many tools and resources these days we can do anything!! Good luck~
That is indeed very cool.
Using 3d scanning or Photogrammetry for the clay models would be interesting!
Just started looking into photogrammetry!!!! I agree!
hi I really LOVE the font is there any way i could get it, and if yes what are your creative commons for it
❤❤
That's what I wanted to see ❤❤❤
amazing & inspiring !
This gives me a great idea 😅 don't know if I'll go through with it though
I’d love to see more
Just posted a follow up video!
@@juliamadeit yay!
looks amazing! unity is so tough
Awesome work!
super cool
Looks like a robot chicken episode in the making. You could probably benefit alot from taking the learning courses inside of unity. I was making a 3d game within 3 days using it.
Nice work
this looks very strenuous and tedious! so cool tho! i luv Lutum
Thank Marcos 😎
Adding shadows would make it more.. natural ,not gonna lie kinda looks scuffed but it will turn into a good game with enought effort and you should also scale the cat down just a little bit and maybe even look towards you as you move around the room
I couldn't figure out how to add a shadow for the life of me! Drove me nuts. Definitely will prioritize it on the next project.
Hi. Good job.
I have a question. I made a game by adventure creator but when I tried to build the project I got an error:
“Movie texture is obsolete. Use video player instead”
Can you help me with this error? I put a lot of effort for my game
😔
I'm not sure... but I tried ChatGPT and here's what it said! chat.openai.com/share/61535e6d-6a3a-4375-b238-94764ed0f29c
