It’s time for another petrol v electric drag race!
We’ve brought back the Tesla Model X Plaid, and it’s going up against a Nissan GT-R NISMO!
So let’s check out the stats. Normally the GT-R is powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 that can produce 600hp and 650Nm of torque. However, it’s been tuned, and as a result, it can now produce an amazing 810hp and 890Nm of torque! This power is sent to all four wheels, and it tips the scales at 1,725kg.
Then alongside it we have the Tesla. It’s powered by three electric motors, and these combine to produce 1,020hp and 1,420Nm of torque. But even though it’s up on power, it’s also well up on weight compared to the GT-R, weighing in at 2,539kg!
So the Tesla is a fair bit more powerful, but it’s also a whole lot heavier! But will the weight difference prove decisive? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

If you don’t like the car just say that but All you internet guys that never sat in one think you’re more qualified than someone like Chris Harris to determine what a “real M car” is? It excels at what it’s meant to do and does it better than the models before it.

GoPro got uncompetitive in the software department like 4 years ago. DJI and insta360 are way better now
He's not wrong. Gopro started going downhill. Big overheating issues the last couple of generations but especially the 12.
They have been shit since the hero 3 🤣 I bought a 7 and 8 and returned both because they simply didn’t work at all. Freezing constantly, corrupting footage, overheating and dead pixels. The footage is stil 2nd to none in my opinion but that means nothing if they don’t work reliably

@@SavingSalvage What GoPro are you using? My GoPro 9 Black overheats easily when recording in 4K and 60fps. Thinking of trying an Insta360 or DJI in the future.

@@aravindradhakrishna8660 Both are solid choices. Insta360 is great in post-production because you have access to a lot of useful features. The quality of DJI is still better imo and I really like how premium DJI

They really should use a proper drag strip though - concrete runways are about the worst surface you can race on and both of these cars would probably be nearly a second quicker on a proper track.

I’d choose the GT-R over the Model X any day, but it’s insane how such a heavy SUV can outrun it. Truly incredible.

@@isurumw6119 it's not 250 more hp it's just 200 more. plus tesla is a 6 seater suz that weighs 700kg more. nissan actually has better power per kg. (4.6 on nissan vs 4.0 on tesla) and tesla still won.

@@mikef1848 possibly better driver or downhill. A lot of factors. Nonetheless a fully loaded MX plaid can keep up. In the end I’ll take the 911.

If it has that tune on it, and the live map selection, atleast when I had my R35 you would just hold the cruise control switch down and put your foot to the floor and it would hold that speed. Mine would hold the car at like 1 PSI of boost so you had no turbo lag during a rolling race.

You guys should race some neoclassical 90's coupés like the Fiat Coupé, Opel Calibra, Alfa Romeo GTV, Mitsubishi Eclipse Mk2... That would be fantastic! I know the guys from Auto Sportivo Bedford could provide some of them...

If I had a Plaid I would get a manual Z car for weekends. Wouldn't want 2 AWD autos.
Well, theres a lot of good things with the X, but reliability is horrible, I would choose S Plaid or Y P before the X. And even more so if there will be a Y facelift and possible Plaid/Ludi version soon (as with the 3). Tuned M4 for the weekends. 😊

There is no way a car that looks like a bus should beat a genuine supercar. Watching technological advances with every passing decade is a treat
But it doesn't - or rather it does, but in two metrics only - straight line acceleration with a battery charge of more than 50%, and interior space. If a Model X tried to keep up on a track or even a long, winding road, all its occupants would lose their lives.

They're built for comfort not for race tracks. But if you add better brakes, better suspension, tires and an aero kit they're surprisingly agile (due to the low center of gravirty.

Yeah i gave up on gppro after hero 7, heard they just got progressively worse after. Swtiched to insta360 now. Doing ok but yes go pro dors have amazing stabilisation and quality when it works.
Love your videos but a quick mod sheet would be great to see on tuned cars. R35 stock transmission clutches slip above 750hp so curious to know specs of this vehicle.
I'm also curious about the spec and tune because there are built and tuned R35s that would laugh at a Tesla

where are you getting such claptrap from? would see 30mpg off boost on motorway cruising down to 3-4mpg on WOT in my old R35 (Litchfield tuned to similar power levels to that Nismo). Won’t even be 50p to run a quarter even with recent high petrol prices

Those MX Plaids still feel quick rolling from 60mph/100kmh with people in them, they are insane. Nothing like them on the road.
The reason is because if you look at the torque/hp curve versus speed, the Model X/S only give the full 1000hp+ after you go past 60-70mph. Below those speeds the Model S/X plaid have limited power.
In other words, it is possible to generate a higher g-force accelerating from 60mph instead of 0mph in certain conditions which is wild.

I have model y dual motor and i noticed its almost jumping forward on any speed under full throttle. Its created some headache if not prepared and hit head .

The thing about a GTR is that it’s a track day car, it’s meant to be the ultimate driving experience around a track. It doesn’t do straight lines

Sadly it's still the revised 2009 model, not been updated yet.
Yes and the Model X is a family hauler with nearly 0 maintenance and no fuel costs. Although you will have a higher electricity bill.

I was expecting the AERO to play more important role for model x in roll race, but seems like they otained somehow a decent CX, then the POWER is the MAIN ATTRIBUTE that really matter in a roll.. weight it almost not important anymore at is it at launch.

The amount of times mine has shut down for no reason is ridiculous. Snorkelling is the worst because you can't remove the battery and reset it.
My model 3 has done 60 in around 3 seconds for 2 yrs several times a day.
I drove the Plaid about 2 months ago…. And still can’t get my head around how it can accelerate that fast and I’m used to 3 seconds several times a day

@@fruitking6916oh don’t worry I have a C63 as well. I used to be a racing driver and could never not own a car with a V8! However, you will be surprised at how fun the Model 3 “Performance” can be. It’s made me giggle a few times. Also, blasting around country roads you hardly use your brakes as in track mode, the regen braking is so strong it’s like pressing the brake firmly…… but, nothing will compare to a rear wheel drive, howling V8 C63 trying to throw you off the road even in a straight line, or an M3 etc.
Also, the Tezzy demolishes the C63 and everything that you see on the road, until about 120

No and neither does an ICE car. You talk like ICE cars are perfect and they are not even close. The ICE has 100 years over the electric motor in terms of development and support and mainstream and industrial application in the AUTO industry and still it is far from being as efficient as the electric motor. Battery technology is where strides need to be made.

@@user-ed5bv5ug2m I have not personally driven a Tesla car in -15 C conditions before but I do not see why it wouldn’t run or perform as long as there is ample battery power to do so. I did drive a Model S LR for about a little over 4 hours straight before getting to my next supercharger destination and I didn’t experience any issues when I arrived with 6%SOC left. A BIG problem I see with Tesla as well as other EV’s is the lack of educating the consumer on how these cars operate. I’m assuming the same learning curve existed when ICE cars hit the public. Tesla EV’s (when using the supercharger map) make sure the battery is preheated just before arriving at the supercharger. As you may or may not know it takes MUCH longer to charge a cold battery than a warm one and I believe A LOT of Tesla owners aren’t aware of this.
30k for a 2019 model S. All that power straight to the wheels without having to travel through any components to get there. Unbeatable value. Souless and plastic. A good car for a paranoid android. I admit for the money and performance it is incredible. I would have one! Something like a C63 Merc 6.2 Coupe would do me.

At 7:17 it does NOT appear that the gap is 0.3 seconds - more like 0.1 second. Not sure about the timing results here.

Electric motors are not a bottleneck. They use 3 instead of 1 to be able to direct power more freely.
For the first time in a CarWow drag race I was hoping for both cars to crash into each other to rid us two of the most grossly heavy and ugly cars on the market.

The electric motor is not the limiting factor of that power.

The combustion driven Nissan GTR Nismo has too many limiting factors, not to mention inefficiencies in getting the maximum power from the combustion enginen to the wheels, as opposed to the apparent efficiency of the electric cars, but that will not stop car enthusiasts from wanting to drive said combustion car.
