  • Reloading the mowing line in your AutoCut 2-2 head might sound a tricky task and with multiple options available, which option is the easiest?
In this video, we’ll guide you through how to complete both options.
🔶 Always make sure you have removed the battery or disconnected the power source so there’s no risk of the machine accidentally starting whilst you are working on it
🔶 Prop the machine up so you can access the mowing head and decide if you are going to use a replacement spool or reload the existing spool.
    ** Replacing The Spool **
🔶 The quickest and easiest way to replace the line is with a pre-wound replacement spool. The AutoCut 2-2 head will either take our blue 1.6mm line, or you can also replace it with green 2mm line for something slightly thicker.
🔶 Press in the two buttons on the sides to remove the cover and take out the empty spool.
🔶 To put the new spool in, poke the line through the holes, press it down gently and replace the cover, which should easily click into place. If you have some excess line, you can cut it to length accordingly.
** Refill the Original Line Spool **
🔶 To refill the original line spool, take the old line spool and remove the white plastic surround which can be discarded.
🔶 The spool can be refilled with up to 4 metres of either our 1.6mm line or 2mm line. First, cut two equal lengths of line, up to 2 metres each.
🔶 On the inside of the line spool, you will see two little holes or grooves. Take one of the 2-metre lengths and push the end into one of the holes here so that it is firmly in place. You will feel it click into place.
🔶 On top of the spool are directional arrows which indicate the correct direction to wind up the line. Poke the line in and fold it back to begin winding.
🔶 Once you have around 10cm left, click the end of the line into this little groove on the top to hold it in place and do the same to the other side. Next, you should poke the line on each side through the holes on the mowing head and put the spool in. Once it is in place, pull the line through and gently unclip it from the grooves.
🔶 To finish, place the cap back on top, and trim any excess line.

@@nicolederoos8458 thanks for your comment. We don't have any current plans to shoot a video showing the FSA 56 as it is no longer a current model. However, you can take it to a STIHL Approved Dealer and they will be able to show you how to change it. You can find your nearest one here: shop.stihl.co.uk/pages/dealer-locator
      Thanks, STIHL GB

Now when the line breaks of inside the head a few minutes later you have to deal with that very frustrating situation. Buying prewound spools or reloading the old ones in not my problem. How to make this trimmer cut without breaking the line of inside the head is extremely difficult. The line will be jammed inside and not feed out so it breaks off when you’re going along in a rough patch or hit a rock or strike anything besides grass. What can I do before I lose my religion?

Just did it. Here are the steps if anyone's interested:
      1. Remove orange cover (2 screws).
      2. Dismantle white body (8 screws) - then you'll get to the moweing head and it's rotors.
      3. On mowing head where the spring is, there is the very center is a rod on which mowing head is atteched. The rod it kept in place by a tiny circular spring (maybe there's a better word for it), you have to unleash that spring and remove it in order to get mowing head off the rod. Bewere that mowing head is quite stuck on the rod, so need to apply the force - either on the rod, but better on the mowing head as you will replace it either way.
      4. Once mowing head is removed, clean the rod from mud and grass.
      5. Install new mowing head.
      6. Put on circular spring back on to secure mowing head on the rod.
      7. (Now is the best moment to clean all plastic parts from mud.)
      8. Put back gently the white body and screw it together.
      9. Put back the orange cover.
      10. Put on the line holder which.

you did not put the white cover back on

Thanks for your comment. The white cover is mainly to stop the line unravelling before it gets used - it's not actually necessary once the spool is on the tool, and it works just as fine without it on, which is why we say it can be discarded in the video. I hope that helps, thanks, STIHL GB
