    About 3,000 islanders could depart from Montserrat shortly,
    leaving behind 2,000 people who are unwilling to leave despite
    warnings of a "cataclysmic" volcanic eruption, British governor
    Frank Savage said on Friday (22/8).
    Late on Friday, some youths -- mainly Rastafarians -- burned
    tyres in the streets of Salem, venting their frustration at the
    new, enlarged danger zone that requires them to move farther
    north, and at the British government assistance offer of 2,400
    pounds (US$3,800) per adult evacuee.
    A British Royal Navy destroyer, HMS Liverpool, is anchored off
    the north end of the island, ready to coordinate any mass
    evacuation.

    SOT, Anelle Kabbee: "My home is over there, all my things is
    over there. I can't go over there. I'm here in the shelter. I
    have to buy coals to cook my food because my stove is at home.
    They give you something. Every month they give you a hundred
    dollars. And you get chicken eggs and vegetables. Otherwise we
    don't know how to live we don't want to go england, I don't want
    to go. I have nobody overthere. I want to stay with someone but
    I would rather stay in Montserrat. If I die I die.
    PULL out from british flag;
    David Brandt, an independent member of the local Parliament, being sworn in as new chief minister;
    SOT, Brandt: "What they expect from to me to ask Britain
    again to give them real choices...Those who choose to remain,
    live should remain tolerable for them and those who go away
    adequate provisions should be made to ensure that they have a
    good living."

    England want to take responsibility for it. And if the old folks
    and the young children who are staying in the evacuated zone is
    to die right know and the people who stay behind are going to
    ask who is responsible for it none of them is going to take
    responsibility for the lives that have been taken by the
